"Anvil is the mightiest port city of the Abecean and the western gateway of Cyrodiil to the wider world. Its enormous harbor, bustling streets, and gleaming temples have made Anvil and its kingdom a destination for sailors, merchants, and pilgrims alike for centuries." - Guide to Anvil

The metropolis of Anvil is Cyrodiil's largest port on the Abecean Sea and one of it's largest cities. It serves as the capital of the Kingdom of Anvil as well as the location of their headquarters of Goldstone castle. It's location at the terminus of the Gold Road has lead to it becoming a major trade hub for the entire province of Cyrodiil, serving to connect the Imperial homeland to the harbors and ports of most of the empire's other provinces.

The city itself is divided into several quarters, listed below.

Fort Telodrach[edit]

An imposing stronghold at the city's northwestern end, Fort Telodrach is the headquarters of the West Navy – the most storied branch of the Imperial Navy. The commander of the fort, as well the West Navy as a whole, is Navarch Tiledorus Cadmerius. The fort has its own docks solely for the use of Navy vessels.

Garden Quarter[edit]

Adorned with manors and the gardens and gleaming towers of the Temple of Dibella Estetica, the Garden Quarter lies at the city's southern side. It is here that the city's wealthiest live in their luxurious and grand manors. Besides the city's elite, this part of the city is also where the favored navy officer hangout Saint Amiel Officer's Club, named for Saint Amiel, and the hotel-casino the Abecette, offering entertainment and lodging to the city's wealthy visitors, can be found.

Goldstone[edit]

Goldstone is the massive castle situated on a large island southeast of the city, accessible only via a bridge west the Garden Quarter, which serves as the seat of power for the Kingdom of Anvil's queen regent, Millona Conomorus. The formidable structure can be seen from nearly anywhere in the city and, on a clear day, may even be seen from many locations in the Strident Coast and Abecean Sea regions. It is here that Millona's court and advisors, ever ready to enlist the support of those willing to serve the Kingdom of Anvil's interests, as well as the residence of Queen Isodi, second wife of missing the King Claudius, can be found.

Little Arenthia[edit]

Little Arenthia is a relatively impoverished neighborhood when compared to the rest of the city, comprised mainly of Bosmer refugee's of the War of the Blue Divide and the aftermath of the earlier invasion of Haymon Camoran. Many of the city's cheaper or less reputable establishments can be found here, including a bathhouse, drinking dens, cheap lodgings, and the occasional unscrupulous merchant.

Marina[edit]

The Marina encompasses the city's main gate, central area, and walled inner harbor. It is here that most of the city's services can be found. Outside the city's gate is a caravan stop where the tents of several traveling merchants and the city's carriage services are located. Just within the gates can be found the Temple of the First Breath, dedicated to Morihaus, the guildhalls of the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild, the city's Red Treasury, and the Conservatory of Saint Laeca. A wide variety of merchants and service can be found north and south of here, though those to the south, being closer to the elite's of the Garden Quarter, tend to cater to those of a higher affluence; the Bazaar of the Abecean, with its myriad stores and stalls, is a notable exception to this. Southwest of city gate lies the marina proper, home to a number of small ships and the stall of several merchant hawking their wares. It's here that the ship Stargazer can be found offering transport to several ports across the Abecean.

Port Quarter[edit]

The Port Quarter is where the city's shipworks and industrial port can be found. It is also where the offices of trading companies from across Tamriel can be found, including those of the Abecean Trading Comany, East Empire Company, Royal Haafingar Company, Southpoint Trading Company, and White Scarab Company. Ocean-faring ships from far-flung shores, usually in service to the aforementioned trading companies, throng its docks.

People[edit]

Anvil contains many notables, with the first and foremost being the Queen Regent, Millona Conomorus.

Getting There and Around[edit]

The city lies at the terminus of the Gold Road, which proceeds from here through Brina Cross, Skingrad, Delodiil and east to the Red Ring Road which circles Cyrodiil City. A carriage outside of Anvil's northeastern gate can take you to Hal Sadek and Brina Cross. Saquerilla's Stargazer in the marina can take you to the ports of Archad, Thresvy, and Charach while ships found in Port Quarter belonging to the East Empire Company and Royal Haafingar Company can also transport you to far-flung destinations, including Ebonheart in Morrowind[nb1] and Karthwasten in SkyrimSHOTN. Yinassi on the top floor of the local Guild of Mages offers guild guide services to Brina Cross and Charach.

Places of Interest Around Anvil[edit]

Anvil is a gateway to the Abecean Sea, and the adventurous might find plenty in the archipelagos and reefs lying to the city's west. The old fort of Olomachus stands to the city's northwest, while a graveyard hugging the city's northern wall could provide reasonable riches to the unscrupulous. If an adventurer were to follow the Gold Road leading away from the city itself, they would quickly pass the old Ayleid ruins of Lindasael, which may hold treasures yet unpillaged.
