    • Attack him until he surrenders (counts as a crime).

    • Challenge him to a game of nine-holes (requires 65+ disposition) for the Hora Amulet, and win.

    • Refuse to return the amulet.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Little Arenthia quarter in Anvil has a drinking hole named the The Anchor's Rest. Here you'll find the legionnaire, Darus Suventius, with two friends. They're trying to cheer him up as he's lost his lucky amulet. Ask him about the topic. It turns out that he bet the precious item while gambling at The Abecette against Mudalius Horvall. Offer to help, and he'll readily accept.

The Abecette is in the Garden Quarter of the city. Enter via the front door and you'll find Mudalius Horvall in the front room. Talk to him about the lucky amulet. He notes that he won the item fair and square, asking what you're going to do about it. You've a couple of options here. You can threaten to take it by force, but this dialogue option actually makes it harder to taunt him into an attack. If you want to go violent, taunt him without choosing this option until he turns hostile (attacking him first is considered a crime). Sufficiently wounding him will prompt his surrender and his handover of the amulet.

Otherwise, you're going to need to beat him at nine-holes. He'll agree to play you for the amulet with 65+ disposition, but you'll need to put up 125 gold as your stake. Accept the terms of his offer, and then speak to him about nine-holes to start the game.

Nine-holes[edit]

If you've not played this before, the aim of the game is to get three pins in a row (orthogonally - diagonal rows do not count) before your opponent does. You each take turns to place a pin in the 3x3 grid of holes. After all three of your pins are placed, subsequent turns will let you move one of them to a different hole.

When starting a game, activate the Nine-holes Board, and not the pins beside it - doing the latter counts as theft. If the board is activated, you'll be be given the options of 'Bet', 'Practice', or 'Don't Play'. For this game against Mudalius, you need to 'Bet'. You'll then need to pick a color - 'Red' or 'White'. This has no mechanical effect - you will always be first to place your pin regardless of color.

Once you've chosen your color, select a hole to put your pin in. Your opponent's pin will be placed shortly afterwards. They do not play flawlessly, and will make a mistake after a while - assuming that you don't make one first.

An amulet won[edit]

On winning your game against Mudalius, he will hand over the Hora Amulet as agreed. Return to Darus with it. He'll ask you to give it to him quickly. Either response ends the quest, with Darus rewarding you with six bottles of Akul for the amulet's return, and drinkin heavily if you refuse to give it back.

This might seem like a poor trade, but giving the amulet back does have additional effects - reducing the Mercantile skill of the barkeep Lennox by 5.
