Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Anvil's Little Arenthia district has many boarding places. One such is the Five Fathoms Flophouse, to the district's western end. Inside you will encounter a nubile Breton named Andren Baldris. Speak to him, and he will ask you to help him - for he has been beset by a thieving witch, and left without his clothes.
Andren doesn't remember much of the night before, but claims to have encountered the witch in the Temple of Dibella Estetica. She has stolen his fine shoes, his fitted breeches, his best gloves, a dashing doublet, a red hat, and - most precious of all - his signet ring. Andren asks that you help in getting these items back, salvaging this Shornhelm gentleman's honor.
The Temple of Dibella Estetica lies at the other end of the city - a massive edifice of white stone. You can ask the guard just inside the main door about Andren Baldris and thieving witch - you'll be directed to Cassandra Verach, in the temple's Auditorium. This is at the top of the temple - through the Sacred Workshops, the Inner Sanctum, and then the Hermitage.
Once you've found her, ask Cassandra about Andren Baldris. She has a different story to tell about the events of the night he can't quite remember - apparently he was steaming drunk. Cassandra suspects that she is his 'thieving witch', and notes that Andren must have lost his clothes outside of the temple. She suggests asking about outside.
You can speak to the witnesses of Andren's drunken stagger to the flophouse in any order, and each will have a hint as to the location of one of his clothes. Immediately outside the temple's main doors is Alexian Calus. Ask him about Andren Baldris and the fine shoes. He'll note that the shoes were thrown into the fountain next to him, before Andren ran off towards the Marina (the district to the north). Retrieve the Soaked Shoes, and continue on the trail.
The next witness is Addhaani, who stands just inside Anvil's city gate leading out onto the Gold Road. He had an altercation with Andren that night, in which the Breton tore off his dashing doublet while standing on the cart next to the Fighters Guild guildhall. You can retrieve this now-Ripped Doublet from atop this wagon. Addhaani says that Andren moved on in the direction of the Mages Guild.
Colatta Carius and Ria Rolerius stand opposite the entrance to the Mages Guild. Each knows the location of one of Andren's best gloves - with the left glove being on the canopy above Ria, and the right glove being behind a crate to the right of the Mages Guild's entrance. Ria notes that Andren moved northwest on removing his last glove.
Up next is Vechus Sarti, who can be found near the apple trees to the left of the archway leading to Little Arenthia. He has a tip on the fitted breeches - apparently Andren removed them to relieve himself, and left the walled area with the apple trees without them. You'll find the Pungent Breeches in this walled area, on a rock. Vechus says that Andren's next movements were towards the statue of Bendu Olo, to the south.
Head south, and speak to Sinurabi by the Shrine of St. Naharine, and ask him about the red hat - which you may already have spotted perched on the top of the shrine. Apparently Andren threw up in it. Retrieve the Putrid Hat, and then go west and north into Little Arenthia.
Your final witness can be found just outside of the Five Fathoms Flophouse. Disa Srethuun encountered Andren that night in all his 'Nardly splendor. If asked about the signet ring, she'll explain that Andren threw it (accidentally) down the well beside her.
Activate the well, and you'll be prompted for a fishing rod. You can obtain one from Orius Triso's General Goods store just east of Little Arenthia, if you do not have one. With fishing rod in hand however, activate the well to fish up the ring. You'll need to make a couple of attempts before you're successful, with a message box popping up each time.
With all items now stinking and in hand, return to Andren in his Flophouse quarters and give him his items. The Montagnard will be delighted, and (as importantly) dressed. He'll reward you with 1-3 additional points in Speechcraft depending on how many of his items that you retrieved for him.
Notes[edit]
- The 'Nard' part of the quest name is a reference to Montagnard, a Breton subculture intended to feature in a future High Rock release.
Bugs[edit]
- Users of the OpenMW engine on versions 0.48 or earlier may be unable to retrieve the Soaked Shoes from the fountain - the recommended fix is to update your version of OpenMW to 0.49 or newer.
