Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Anvil's statue of Bendu Olo stands in the city's Port Quarter. You will find a Breton woman named Elausa Yvienne next to it. Speak to her and she will ask for your assistance in her dream to become a painter. It seems that's a recent arrival from High Rock who has been mugged shortly after stepping off the boat, with the Letter of Recommendation that she needed to apply to the famed Conservatory of Saint Laeca being stolen along with her coin.
On hearing her story, you can offer her 200 septims, but she will refuse. Asking to help in any other way will see her suggest that you either speak with somebody at the Conservatory to get her a position there, or track down her mugger - an axe-wielding Imperial with tied-up hair.
Convincing the Conservatory[edit]
At the Conservatory, asking any individual about the become a painter topic will see you pointed to Celethril, who handles admissions. He's on the first floor. Ask him about become a painter, and he'll be sceptical of Elausa's story. Nonetheless, he will accept her admission for a 300 gold inscription fee, or else you can attempt to provide a personal recommendation yourself. This will only work without costing you anything if he has 90+ disposition towards you - in which case, offer the personal recommendation and then pick the 'try to persuade him' option. Otherwise you'll be invited to pay the inscription fee, although Celethril will discount it to 200 with 80+ disposition, or to 150 if you have 20+ Cyrodiil Cyrodiil Reputation
Once Celethril has agreed to induct Elausa, return to her to give her the good news - she has little to give you in return but booze and cards won from other players on her voyage. Given that some of those cards are marked, it's unclear if Elausa is supremely lucky, or a confident cheat.
Catching the Crook[edit]
Any Anvil-based individual with the Rogue class can tell you the identity of the mugger if asked about that topic. For example, Adalafire on the top floor of the Anchor's Rest. Similarly, Anvil members of the Thieves Guild can point you in the right direction - so speak with them at the Sailors' Fluke if you're already in touch.
The named suspect is Oritius Vulso, a frequent drinker at the All Flags Inn. The inn is in the Marina quarter, next to the Conservatory of Saint Laeca. You'll find Oritius at the back of it. Talk to him about Elausa Yvienne. You'll need him at 60+ disposition before he'll agree to return letter of recommendation. You can let the matter drop there, or else go after her stolen gold too. If the latter, you'll need 90+ disposition or to be a member of the Thieves Guild. As a member, you can ask if he is too. He is not, and so will pay you in diamonds to avoid any trouble with that group. You can also Intimidate him while a member of the Thieves Guild to secure the diamonds, if you fail that 90+ disposition check.
Return to Elausa once you have everything you want from Oritius. Bear in mind that she will take up to 2x Diamonds from your inventory on being spoken to, and whether she gets the diamonds or not has no bearing on her reward for you. So you may wish to sell them beforehand.
Elated at having her letter returned, Elausa will reward you with drinks and decks of cards won while playing games with other passengers on her long voyage from High Rock.
