Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Two aspiring explorers await the attention of the director of the Briricca Bank in Anvil. You can find them on the bank's top floor, and one - Domenicus Fontanarius - will ask for your assistance in persuading the director, Vari-Vedis Ophilius, to fund their proposed trade mission to Akavir. Agree to help, and Domenicus will ask that you speak to the director, hoping that you will be more persuasive than they have so far managed to be. Speak to Vari-Vedis in his office on the same floor. He's not confident that the brothers have properly prepared. Convey these concerns to Domenicus, and he will seek to allay them - recruiting you to help in doing so.
Domenicus asks that you secure the services of a trading ship, plan out a viable route, arrange a supply of provisions and find an auspicious date for the voyage.
Finding a ship[edit]
The brothers don't actually have a vessel to sail on yet. Domenicus asks that you find a willing captain, believing that to be an easy job given that Anvil is a massive port city. Asking around the various captains docked at the port will reveal that most ships are either contracted to existing trading companies or unwilling to risk so much on such a slim chance of success. At 30+ disposition, certain captains (e.g. Amanta of the Valley of Diamonds) will recommend that you seek a boat in Charach instead.
Charach's the right call. Travel to the island and talk to Taphia Serinia, the captain of the Ghost of Massiquera, with 50+ disposition. She'll agree to lend her ship to the voyage for a share of the profits.
Mapping a route[edit]
Domenicus wants a chart produced by the Imperial Geographical Society - believing that Vari-Vedis' fears will be allayed if such an institution's maps backs the proposed expedition.
Find Ladius Ferunian in the Imperial Geographical Society building in Anvil's Marina. Said building is just south of Thirroth's alchemy store. Ladius can plot out a viable route for you. He'll give you assorted options for each stage, but these are for flavor only - regardless of your choices, he will warn you that this mission is a very bad idea. He'll also pass you a Charted Route to Akavir.
You have a choice here, as you can now warn Vari-Vedis of what the society have said. If you do so, he will thank you for your honesty and pay you 300 gold. The Fontanarius brothers will be kicked out of the bank. Otherwise, speak to Domenicus to hand him the chart.
Playing provisioner[edit]
You'll receive 500 gold from Domenicus to secure a six months supply of provisions - he suggests getting this by going to the Abecean Trading Company building in Anvil, which is by the big statue of Bendu Olo. Nira Torelia is the one to speak to here. She'll ask a series of questions, with your answers determining the ultimate cost of the provisions.
This cost is determined by the sum of two variables that are set by your answers to Nira's first two questions. If that sum equals [2], the cost of the provisions will be 300 gold. [3] sets the cost to 400 gold, [4] to 500, [5] to 600 and [6] to 700.
The first question is how many months worth of provisions are needed. Answering sets the first variable - an answer of four counts as [1], six as [2], eight as [3]. The second question pertains to the type of provisions required - fresh, non-perishable, or a mix. Answering this question sets the second variable. Here, answering non-perishable counts as [1], a mix counts as [2], and mostly fresh both counts as [3] and presumably dooms the expedition.
So (for example) to turn a 200 profit on the 500 gold you were given, you'd need to buy four months worth of non-perishable provisions.
Once the total cost is paid, Nira will confirm that the provisions will be ready, and you can let Domenicus know.
Auguring a departure[edit]
The Imperial Astrological Society claims to be able to read the stars to determine lucky dates on which a voyage can begin. Domenicus will give you 150 gold to commission a reading from them. The society's building is in the Port Quarter by Bendu Olo's statue. Inside, speak to Eyjar, and give him the 150 gold. He'll give you a date, but will advise against the voyage. You can choose to report the date only to Domenicus, or the advice as well - doing the latter only upsets him, and also reduces your ultimate reward by 100 gold.
Securing a loan[edit]
This is your last chance to warn Vari-Vedis of the Imperial Geographical Society's low opinion of this mission, securing 300 gold for your efforts and ending the quest. Otherwise, with all four tasks complete, talk to Domenicus to report in your assorted successes. He'll bring up the trade mission to Akavir topic once more, asking that you present the case to Vari-Vedis again. Speak to Vari-Vedis. He'll be convinced by your preparations, and will approve a 15,000 loan for the two brothers. Return to Domenicus for 1,500 gold as your cut, or 1,400 if you reported the Imperial Astrological Society's advice not to go on the voyage at all.
