Hm, King Farangel's Ode doesn't exist in game? -,-[edit]
Are you sure about that? Why is it listed in the Hew's Bane collection in game then? It's connected to the relic that you steal for Thieve's Guild which has the exact same name. So far the assumption is that the stolen relic should grant us the lorebook, but it's bugged. I think you're confusing two books... The Ode to Wayrest should not be a toast, it sure doesn't sound like it by its description... hahah :D Besides, the book collection isn't datamined. It all exists in game as we speak. Tib (talk) 21:28, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- Well, my thought processes went this way. We had data on King Farangel's Beer Ballad, but we didn't on the Ode. The beer ballad talks about wayrest, and the page on the beer ballad already exists with text and everything and wasn't marked as pre-release, whereas the ode to wayrest WAS marked as pre-release without any text or other info at all. Seemed pretty obvious to me that the two were one and the same, but it is entirely possible that I am mistaken :). If so, feel free to recreate the page. There wasn't anything on it except the name and the collection. Jeancey (talk) 21:32, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
-
- There are two books in the newest book collection that seem to be bugged (or well hidden somewhere), but they are still listed in the collection, which consists of 76 books. But I can't update these two pages until I find the info :< There's been a discussion about it on official forums as well. Anyways... when you steal the relic King Farangel's Unpublished Ode to Wayrest (image of it here), the description says "The disjointed scribblings of an epic ballad about the beauty and wonder of Wayrest, purportedly penned by the king himself." Maybe it's the same book, maybe not :) I actually don't know what to do about this, but def. not having beer ballad thingy on the list. Let's leave a red link then for now. - Okay :). I just got a new computer (Which is why I've been gone for weeks, my old one was broken), so I haven't had time to download the game again. I'll continue to put icons on the pages that need them. One thing I think we are currently missing is all of the Crafting Motif pages. Have you had a chance to dive into those to add them to the wiki? I know there are a ton. Jeancey (talk) 21:52, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

-
-
- Well, congrats on the new computer, and sorry if I sounded defensive, it's just that I spent some (a lot) time on adding Thieves Guild info so that's why I know about the books ;) Regarding Crafting Motifs - I updated the collection pages to the latest, but no individual pages exist. I (and Legoless helping <3) also undertook a painful renaming process from Racial Motifs to Crafting Motifs :O After that I'm not sure I want to see the words "crafting motif" for a while! - Fair enough. :) The other thing we really need to do at some point is go through each collection in game and on the wiki, book by book, and make sure the collections listed are correct. They moved books around quite a bit since launch and many books that never had a collection before have now been added in. I fear our collections are fairly out of date, as far as the actual book pages go. Jeancey (talk) 22:09, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

- I actually checked this the other day, just out of boredom. Most collections are missing a couple of newer books, but it's not that many. Whether books have been reorganized - no idea. But several Orsinium book pages and Imperial City ones are missing, so there's only red links right now :) Maybe I'll fix something in collections at some point although I mostly want to finish and get rid of stubs and "image needed" pages for Thieves Guild and Craglorn! Always more missing things coming out of nowhere, the wiki is like a black hole reversed :O Tib (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- The collection pages are mostly good, but I'm talking about the pages of the actual books themselves. I've run across quite a few books in the data with collection IDs listed, but no collection on the book page on the wiki. I don't really know which collection IDs go to which collections, but I assume they are consistent and thus the collection of a book can be determined from the data itself. Book Changes[edit]
Do you know of any other major changes like this? Per this, I'd like to make separate pages for texts with significant patch changes. That particular update has thrown our refs into disarray, and it's a wonder it took so long for the retcon to be brought to our attention. —Legoless (talk) 20:58, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
- It should technically be possible to do a diff check of the text files to find any major changes to book text, if we can work out which section of the text files holds that stuff. I assume where there are any changes to lore like this, the old lore is retconned out of existence? --Enodoc (talk) 16:06, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
-
- That would be the assumption, yes. Might be worth actually specifying that on UESPWiki:Lore, but I think it's safe to treat in-game retcons the same way we treat inter-game ones. —Legoless (talk) 17:52, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Revert on Thieves Guild[edit]
The change I made to the Thieves Guild page was for an important reason - we otherwise have no way of distinguishing skills that you have to invest skill points in from ones that you get for free. I did the same on all of the racial skill pages as well. If you have a suggestion for a better way of doing that, I'd like to hear it. As it currently stands, there's no way that someone would know that skill is free. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:55, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- I believe that resulted from me accidentally clicking rollback. I had no idea I even did it! I have reverted my revert. Usually I notice when I accidentally click that button... Jeancey (talk) 19:57, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, no biggie. Oh, while we're at it - I don't have DB yet, but do you know if Blade of Woe works the same way? Other than that, the only other freebies I can think of would be some of those passives on the Lycanthropy line (is the Ultimate, Werewolf Transformation, a free skill? I don't think it'd make much sense to have a Werewolf that can't transform, but I haven't played a WW yet, just a Vampire.) and also the Emperor skills, but not sure there's much point in changing how we're treating those right now. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 20:06, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Imperial Library Collection[edit]
You seem to have done a lot of the uploads for the books in the Imperial Library collection. Do you have any of the ones that are still red-linked? In particular, I couldn't find anything about This is the End on other websites, so that one would be particularly useful.
On a side note, The Sublime Brazier is incorrectly linked in the collection page. The link links to the quest instead of the book.
Thank you! — Unsigned comment by 121.217.253.212 (talk) at 02:14 on 13 June 2016 (UTC)
- Here is the book your looking for. I've fixed the article link, good catch. —Legoless (talk) 02:25, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
Ancient Nord Tablet[edit]
I've added some information on the page of Ancient Nord Tablet, but the text is displayed weirdly in game. If you want, I can provide a screenshot.. basically it looks like a very sloppy scribbling, plus the weird "||//" marks. Tib (talk) 00:42, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Legends Cards parameter names[edit]
Should I run the bot to update the attack/defense parameter names to power/health too? Would've fit nicely in the update I just did, but I hadn't caught up yet...oh well. Alternatively, we can just add power/health as alternate parameter names and deprecate the attack/defense for now. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:28, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- I think the second option is the best. They may end up being referred to as Attack/Defense by players. Jeancey (talk) 18:36, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Sandbox Alphabet[edit]
Okay, I'll bite: what alphabet are you using for your sandbox names? Even the Internet can't find it! :) – Robin Hood (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Sounds like some sort of Cyrillic to me (azbuka = Russian ABCs). —Legoless (talk) 20:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

- I'd meant your sandboxes, but now you've got me curious about both, cuz I hadn't noticed that your archives were named as well. – Robin Hood (talk) 21:40, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

- Okay, I'm officially impressed! Most of us try and get a bit creative with our sandbox names, and alphabets are certainly a common choice, but you've easily found the most unique choice of alphabets I've seen so far. – Robin Hood (talk) 08:17, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

ESO Xbox NA server invite?[edit]
Hey. I got ESO recently, wondering if I can have an invite to the guild? Gamertag: Jimeee. I'm in Europe, but joining the NA server won't be an issue, will it? Not too sure how it all works tbh...will I need to start a new character? --Jimeee (talk) 19:21, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- It's pretty easy to change servers, but you will have to start from scratch if you switch. This includes any Crown Store purchases you may have made (although your actual Crown balance is safe). You'll also have worse latency the further away you are geographically; EU is in Frankfurt and NA is in like Texas or Maryland. —Legoless (talk) 19:47, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if the Xbox One servers are split between NA and EU at all? I haven't played on the Xbox One for a while, I mainly had it to check things for the wiki. I believe ME uses it though, if you want to ask. If not, I think I could install it and invite you to the guild (assuming I haven't been purged from it :P ) Jeancey (talk) 22:30, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
ESO project *nudge*[edit]
Hey Jeancey! I'm wondering if you're gonna have a spare moment at some point to help get the ESO project started? Or are you very busy right now? :( I agree with your idea about organizing around locations. I just don't know how to, well, create the templates. It would be very nice if somebody with experience helped out there! Tib (talk) 15:05, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix[edit]
Thanks for that. It's a feature I added to that template myself...you'd think I'd know how to use it! :) – Robin Hood (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
The writing leading up to dialogue[edit]
Hi, is it now standard practice to put "If spoken to, he will say," before the dialogue, and with a comma just before it at the end (as opposed to "If engaged in conversation," etc. and a colon respectively)? Or is that just for the Online namespace? •D. G.|Talk|Work• 20:08, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
-
-
- Well, Legoless is sort of correct. The "If spoken to" part is mostly personal preference in order to make the sentence more readable. "If engaged in conversation" is unnecessarily formal and thus would be less ideal for this situation. In the case of a single line of dialogue that follows a leader sentence, the comma is correct rather than the colon. The colon would be used for larger blocks of text (four sentences or so) or multiple lines of separate text (as when the person says one of several things when spoken to). Hopefully that all makes sense. Jeancey (talk) 23:47, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- It does. The reason behind my decision to use "If engaged in conversation" is because I thought that if we kept using "If spoken to", it would get a bit repetitive. And it is good to have change, but that said, it depends on the situation. I don't consider "If engaged in conversation" to be overly formal / stilted - maybe a bit formal though or somewhere in between. Encyclopaedic articles are meant to be formal in tone after all, so it doesn't hurt anyone. The colons can be seen to over time in small portions as they are not a big issue. •D. Strong'olds[edit]
This was because Morrowind:Strongholds is a redirect to Morrowind:Dunmer Strongholds, not Morrowind:Stronghold, and I think this will be confusing if there's no hatnote, especially since singular and plural are not used very consistently here. UESP doesn't have Wikipedia's Template:Redirect, which would give something like: "Strongholds" redirects here. For ... see .... Could implement that template, or just use a custom hatnote, I suppose. — Darklocq ☎ ¢ 07:02, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- Actually we do. :) {{About}}. I didn't realize Strongholds didn't redirect to Stronghold. In that case, a hatnote is appropriate. Sorry about that! Jeancey (talk) 07:04, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
OpenMW[edit]
The point of [1] is that OpenMW now being fully functional and playable all the way[s] through has brought the game to all the Mac and Linux people, a whole new audience, and this increases pressure on UESP to get the wiki content in superb shape.
OpenMW doesn't change anything in the game, other than bug fixes; in this regard it is equivalent to the code-patching projects. For both the main game and all official add-ons, the walkthrough process is identical, characters speak the same lines, the quests have the same steps, etc. They have to, since the data files are Bethesda's originals. So far, even the exploits I've tested all work (e.g. tricking merchants out of money). Some exploits may eventually not work; I'm not sure where they're going to draw the line between 'bug" and "misfeature". :-) But this isn't really any different from some cheats and bugs being in some Bethesda releases and not others, or some of them being fixed by a code-patching project while others remain.
Anyway, I wrote Morrowind Mod:OpenMW to better explain what OpenMW is (and is not). It's not an approximate clone of MW, they way Linux is an approximate clone of Unix. It is MW, just with a different engine processing the content files and creating gamesave files. — Darklocq ☎ ¢ 07:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Morrowind daedric text[edit]
Hello!
I wanted to provide some sources for the Daedric text that I added to and you removed from the Daedric alphabet text. The source for "VELOTH" being on an ashlander banner is a Bethesda twitch episode, which can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/124986015 There you can see the banner around 30 minutes in.
The source for the "NEREVAR" banner is this YouTube video, which apparently isn't covered by the NDA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwTyY98IFzk The writing can be hard to see, but if you pause the video at 5:11 and look at the banner on the left hand wall you can see that it indeed says "NEREVAR".
I sadly do not have sources for the other text that I added that aren't covered by the NDA, but I'll get back to you if I do. Now, would you be so kind as to readd the two lines describing the two above things to the page? — Unsigned comment by Aran Anumarile Autaracu Alatasel (talk • contribs) at 18:56 on 7 May 2017
Regarding my edits[edit]
Hello, I saw that some of my edits were made in error. It's weird, but one thing I like to do is small fixes such as extra spaces at the end of lines and the like, but I also don't want to cause any disruption or work for other people. I understand why the edits were made and will not continue to make them. I figure its probably best to ask directly if what I am doing is okay before I keep going. Thank you! Saladofstones (talk) 03:49, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hey! I was just leaving a message on your talk page! :) There are two different points here. The first involves the extra spaces and removing the underscores from links and such. This is fine to do, but our general policy is that these edits shouldn't be the ONLY edits to the page. This means that if you are already editing the page for another reason, it is perfectly fine to remove double spaces or underscores or other cosmetic changes like that.
- The second part is a little different. In terms of grammar, a full stop should only be used at the end of a complete sentence. This is one of the reasons why most, if not all, of the image captions on the wiki do not have punctuation at the end; most of them are fragments and thus do not get a full stop (also known as a period). The other part involved whether the apostrophe should be outside or inside of a link. The general practice on the wiki has been to put it outside of the link, and so this should be the general rule as to maintain consistency from page to page.
- We do appreciate the enthusiasm though! I, for one, also love making these small fixes and stuff. If you are looking for some guidance on what needs doing, you might want to check out one of our Projects or the Task List. I hope I haven't scared you off the wiki! Jeancey (talk) 03:56, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Naryu's Journal[edit]
Does Naryu's journal imply that ESOMW is after all previous content, or just some specific stories? Only the Orsinium DLC mentions the year 583, so if the journal mentions only, say, the main quest and the Gold Coast, then I think it's still not enough to assume that we're in 583... (and yes, the anon was me :P) --Vordur Steel-Hammer (TINV1K) 19:03, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- The journal mentions all of the DLC. She spends time in orsinium and talks about king kurog and stuff, making it clear that morrowind happens sometime AFTER the journal was written, since a certain event which happens before ESO:MW occurs at the end of the journal. I can talk more about it on discord if you are there :) Jeancey (talk) 19:07, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- No need, it's pretty clear if this is the case. Gah, now I'll have to find and correct every date in my recent edit spree... :P --Vordur Steel-Hammer (TINV1K) 19:13, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
Axulfa Giant-Slayer[edit]
Hello. I made a change to this page based on information on the PTS. I encountered her in Mournhold. Not sure if she's still un Windhelm or not, or if its another same'named character. Thought I'd let you know, though. If its wrong, please feel free to revert it? :) Timeoin (talk) 05:31, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
MWOP NPC Guidelines[edit]
Hi Jeancey! I hope you are doing well! Recently, the issue came up again where CSList was being used to add/check spells which is problematic as CSList does not list spells for a lot of people when it should. I went to add a "disclaimer" about this to the project page, and while I was there, I added a bullet point about what needs to be added for each of the fields in the MWOP NPC tag. I think most of this is non-controversial and is just a communication of what we have been doing thus far, but I wanted to give you a heads up since you're the boss of all things MWOP. Feel free to edit/remove whatever you like.
The only thing I left out is the house inventories piece. The project page currently says here that houses should have their own pages while it says here that it hasn't been decided. I remember we discussed this (more than 4 years ago... wow!) here and it seemed like we were leaning toward giving houses their own articles. However, it doesn't seem like this was set in stone yet, so I wanted to double check on that before adding anything about that to the project page. Forfeit (talk) 19:08, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- I swear I replied to thins.... but the original plan was for the houses to have separate pages for each one. Eventually that seemed like too much effort (because I was the only one doing it) so I made a plan for NPCs to have sections for their houses. But ideally, the houses would be separate pages from the NPC who owns it. Jeancey (talk) 23:46, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Treasure Maps page is missing links[edit]
Hi Jeancey,
I didn't know where to report this, but the Treasure Maps page links for the Summerset items don't connect to anywhere. They just pull up a world map of Tamriel. I just tried to go in and fix it myself, and found that I have no grasp of how these map links are done. I'm contacting you about this because you were the last person to make any edits to the page so I figure you must know what you're doing. :-) If we have a guide or tutorial somewhere on this, I'll give it a try, but I'm playing on XB1 and don't have the ability to data-mine anything for specific coordinates and such. Minotaur (talk) 11:58, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Yep! I can take a look into it! Jeancey (talk) 04:52, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- Okay, I think they should all work now, plus I uploaded the one that was missing, but if you could take a look at the locations, that would be great! The problem was our map didn't have markers for them for the links to go to. I don't have the game in front of me, so double checking that the locations I added them to are accurate would be very helpful! Let me know if any are wrong. Jeancey (talk) 05:47, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
