{{Races}} Template[edit]

Category Crisis[edit]
So, I've heard you're good with these things. :P Category:Oblivion Uncategorized Stubs
This one is confusing me... I raised a question on the talk page, then decided to come here. The thing is, it doesn't exist (page not created), but there are pages in the category. However, to me it seems like a temporary thing-- like the pages in it can be categorized elsewhere, and then this category deleted. We weren't sure in the IRC so I came to you :) What do you think? Was it temporary, or an oversight? --Vulpa 14:09, 5 April 2013 (GMT)
- These categories are temporary and were created by a change to the {{Stub}} template which adds all pages using it without categorizing the stub fall into this uncategorized group. It was done to make it easier for people to see which stubs might benefit from being more specifically categorized. It's probably not really necessary to categorize ALL the stubs though. It may be that many stub articles simply don't fit in any of the more specific categories, and are possibly unique enough that no category could be created that would have more than a handful of pages in it (or even just one). When I asked about this before it was suggested that once we reach a state where none of the "uncategorized" stubs can be reasonably fit into categories, the Stub template can be reverted so these uncategorized categories will just go away. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:32, 6 April 2013 (GMT)

- Jeancey, I returned literally 5 minutes after you quit. :P Thanks to both of you for explaining-- I guess I'll
go see if anything in it can be (/should be) easily categorized, thenleave what's left for that reversion later. --Vulpa 00:09, 7 April 2013 (GMT) - Nevermind, I realized I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. I added what categories I thought should be on one of the pages, but it already had them... even though it was in the "Uncategorized" category... *shrug* --Vulpa 00:44, 7 April 2013 (GMT)

Welcoming[edit]
Just a heads-up. We generally wait on giving new users the Welcome message until we can be sure they're not a spambot. In the case of User:Mr. Hoots, we can't tell yet. The thing to look for is if they post something ES or UESP related. "Coming soon!" could be anything really, and honestly bears the mark of a classic spambot. I hope I'm wrong, but in the future, hold off on the greetings until it's clearly human. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:18, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
- He was in the IRC for a short while and is not a spambot. Vely►t►e 03:20, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
- Ah, okay. Just raised some warning flags for me - posting only in user space, and only a cryptic non-ES related message... With all the spam we're getting these days you'll pardon me if I'm just naturally suspicious. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:43, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
Lore:Peryite - references[edit]
Hey Jeancey, thanks for your edit, but I deliberately left the cleanup template on the page. The article, including the first paragraph, needs more citations than the ones I added. I changed the cleanup parameter to “needs more references”. :) --Holomay (talk) 13:17, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for the explanation on Miraak[edit]
Thank you for your explanation on Miraak edit. I got a little too focused on the anonymous user's lack of explanation to really read what (s)he deleted. I will be more careful in the future. —MortenOSlash (talk) 22:34, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
Cicero Generic Talk[edit]
Undo reason? http://www.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Skyrim:Cicero&action=edit&undoafter=1173929&undo=1173933 QuNybble talk 1510-16Apr2013(MDT)
- The line "Hey, Skeever Butt" is generic NPC dialogue that is not unique to Cicero. Actually, looking into it further, I can't actually find why Cicero would even say this, it seems to be related to the Throw Voice shout. Jeancey (talk) 21:31, 16 April 2013 (GMT)
- To be more on point, I have never heard any NPC say this. I have only ever heard it while uttering it myself with the use of Throw Voice. -Kharay (talk) 21:32, 16 April 2013 (GMT)
- I did not know it was a generic response, I just heard him say it multiple times. It does seem like dialog that would be specific to Cicero. Thank you for your explanations. QuNybble talk 17:02, 17 April 2013 (GMT)

's in links[edit]
Wait, since when? :P Do you mean that it's common practice to leave them out in older game pages, or overall? Because I never see that on more recent article pages. --Vulpa 20:06, 20 April 2013 (GMT)
- Just on wiki's in general, it is common practice to have the label appear as close to the actual link as possible. Since the software will add anything after the link to the link itself, having it outside of that link doesn't change how it is displayed (ex: Magicka or Vivecflargityblarg) and allows you to easily see the link (more noticeable). It isn't a formal policy, but there isn't a reason to change them to inside the link. Jeancey (talk) 20:10, 20 April 2013 (GMT)
- I've seen the software add things after the link to the link (make it blue) before, but it is not in this case. Instead it shows Fort Stirk's, which is somewhat disjointed, having two colors in one link. Isn't it better to have a cohesive statement, with every word having one or the other of two colors? Otherwise it's just ugly :P . And anyway, I realize that it'd be pointless to go around and change all of these, but shouldn't we (just whenever we notice them), for site-wide consistency (for, as I've said, recent games don't do this)? --Vulpa 20:15, 20 April 2013 (GMT)
Invitation to join a translating team.[edit]
You are invited to join a team that will be attempting to translate the unknown language on the Word Wall in the 6th Chapter of the Black Book Waking Dreams, the Word Wall that gives the third word ( D3V ) of the Dragon Aspect shout. There are strange, moving words behind the Dragon Language text on the Wall, written in an unrecognisable language. The Dragon Language part of the Word Wall has already been translated. It is the moving words in the unrecognisable language that this project hopes to translate.
This project will be happening in my sandbox, which is open to collaboration by invited team members. The talk page of the sandbox is open to other contributors as well. I hope to see you get involved in the project. I have hand-picked you because you may have previously been involved in Elder Scrolls language translations in the past on the wiki, particularly if you worked on the Magic Script Alphabet or the Elder Alphabet pages.
Kind regards,
Daric Gaersmith

Proving a point[edit]
The wiki is no place to "prove a point", as you have "threatened" to do on more than one occasion, most of these were on the IRC, but that does not lessen it any. Further, posts such as this one leave you open to accusations of bad faith editing. I would advise against making such claims again as it only lessens your fellow editors opinions of you. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:52, 26 April 2013 (GMT)
- Jeancey, I'm sorry if you've taken that discussion to heart. My intent was merely to advocate a belief I hold in good faith, and never to antagonize you. Minor EditsThreats•Evidence 00:05, 27 April 2013 (GMT)
- Silencer. I'm proving a point for a reason. If we are to follow this, then what I have done to prove that point is perfectly valid. Suggesting that previously shot down ideas be added to the page given current standards isn't bad faith, I am simply following the majority. I conceded that everyone seems to be against me and that I should just follow what they want to do. Which is what I am doing. If that lessens your opinion of me, then you are lessening your opinions of everyone involved in the conversation since I am simply following what they have shown to true.I am entirely within my bounds to support the references that I did following that conversation. I did not try to find ridiculous connections or search out extremely obscure references, I simply supported references that were not approved before, given evidence presented. Furthermore, comments you made in the conversation called my point ridiculous, and you suggested I prove that it wasn't a reference, which is not helpful in any way and is literally impossible, which lessens my opinion of you. If you have a problem with what I have said, then I will try to change that in the future. Many things are said on IRC which never translate into action and I would like you to base your accusations on what I do, rather than what I say. I have never made an edit solely to prove a point, I always find edits that WILL prove my point. There is a difference between the two, and the second is the proper way of doing things, and is something we all do.
- ME. I do not doubt that you were in good faith, I never thought otherwise. I simply did not agree with your evidence. You did not antagonize me, others did. I never said it couldn't be a reference, I just stated that we didn't really have enough evidence that it WAS a reference, given the obvious reasons behind the naming of the inn, and the lack of any other double meanings that are similar to this in the entire series. - Here is wiki-side proof of your actions in a case of "proving a point", in case you have forgotten the incident. And as you say yourself, that one started in the IRC. You suggested you would re-open archived discussions, the majority of which are those that have been voted against. While re-opening archived discussions is fine, it is the suggestion that you would open even those that previously failed ("I will now be reopening archived discussions that failed"), placed in the context of the overall tone of the post, which leaves you open to accusations of bad faith. Taking actions that are against what you believe (and have stated) to be correct is exactly what proving a point entails, trying to show others what there opinions (in your opinion) would lead to. This is neither wiki-like, nor the professional conduct I would expect to see in any editor, nevermind an editor trusted with the responsibility of maintaining a wiki. And just to back it up, here's wikipedia's article on the subject, with two quotes "If consensus strongly disagrees with you even after you have made proper efforts, then respect the consensus, rather than trying to sway it with disruptive tactics." and "As a rule, one engaging in "POINTy" behavior is making edits which s/he does not really agree with, for the deliberate purpose of drawing opposition." - Jeancey, sorry, I didn't complete that quote in a PM on IRC, so I'll post it here, as it is relevant to this present discussion. "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Unfortunately all this nonsense today (such as this) has brought me to the brink of a wikibreak, so I won't be doing much in the way of "defending to the death", but I do support your right to having your point of view, even if it conflicts with my own. — Daric✐ 05:54, 27 April 2013 (GMT)
- Silencer: Sigh.... you clearly did not understand what happened at all. Just forget it. It is better to just leave it as is than to try and explain it to you, especially since it is clear you don't really want to listen to me about this topic anymore. Suffice it to say, I do not disrupt UESP to make a point. I made edits to make a point. There is a difference between the two, and I hope that you come to realize what that difference is. Morrowind Overhaul Project: Vivec(God)[edit]
Vivec does indeed have a lot of unique dialogue, but most of it can only be seen once you have advanced far enough into the main quest to meet him. So would it be to okay to add just these dialogue (not those you can see further in the main quest) that adds general information, and perhaps his comments about Almalexia and Sotha Sil (he is one of the few to believe that you have killed her). e.g. His plans to Dagoth Ur would not be added, but his talks about how it is to be a god would. Alpha Panda (talk) 09:12, 30 April 2013 (GMT)
- Exactly! Vivec has the most amount of unique dialogue in the game. Any dialogue not directly linked to a quest should be added to his page. :) Jeancey (talk) 16:21, 30 April 2013 (GMT)

- It'll be unprotected for you in about 15 hours anyway. You only need what's called "autoconfirmed" status to edit that page, which requires you to have made ten edits and have been on the wiki for four days. Deer/Elk[edit]
Accordying to wikipedia Elk are a type of deer [1]--Ashendant (talk) 23:38, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
- They are in the same genus, not the same species. Its like saying that Lions and tigers are both panthers. True, they are members of the Genus, but they are in no way the same species. Jeancey (talk) 23:42, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
(←) That isn't policy at all. All that is needed is an accurate image that displays the creature. They don't all have to be the most up to date. Jeancey (talk) 00:40, 6 May 2013 (GMT)
- I didn't say it was a policy, I said it was preferable do the image with a higher quality creature being better than a lower quality one.--Ashendant (talk) 00:48, 6 May 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for telling me![edit]
I was just about to open the CS and create more inventory tables. Good thing I read your message. I was wondering how the Dagoth Ur article should look. Should the dialogue be added? Should it still be lore-rich? I'm willing to edit it (as well as other articles on important characters), add the dialogue etc. --MistressTheya (talk) 18:26, 8 May 2013 (GTM)
- Any unique dialogue he might have that is unrelated to a quest event (Though I'm not sure there is any), should be added to his article. Much of the article should be about his lore, but any other game related things fit too. Jeancey (talk) 18:56, 8 May 2013 (GMT)

Perfecting Jiub's page so yellow template at top of the page is no longer needed[edit]
You said that his quest roles need to be put on his page, they are but at the top of his NPC page. It explains all of his roles in the quest. So, what gives? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 17:55, 30 May 2013 (GMT)
- Yep. I didn't change the fact that it was checked for that reason. The other quest info was previously added. Also, the top template is never really removed. It will disappear once everything on the page is checked. Jeancey (talk) 17:56, 30 May 2013 (GMT)
- And when will Jiub's page be getting checked? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 18:46, 30 May 2013 (GMT)
Hitbox Question[edit]
This may sound like a stupid question but what exactly is a Hitbox in Skyrim used in this context: The Ebony Warrior's hit box does not extend to cover his full height. This can be observed when trying to shoot his head with an arrow or bolt spell. Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 08:54, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
- Essentially, the hitbox is the area of the character that will register a hit when you try to attack it. Now, in a normal NPC this is equal to the NPC itself, but, for some reason, the ebony warriors hitbox only extends to his shoulders (or so). Thus, if you try and shoot his head with something, it doesn't register that there is anything there and goes straight through. Jeancey (talk) 09:04, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
I get it now. It must be to do with his huge height: He is like 7 feet 10 inches tall! Does this happen with Tsun too? It might have something to do with limited 1st person camera view height? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 09:08, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
- It has nothing to do with the camera. Someone made the Ebony Warrior taller and forgot to make the hit box larger as well. Nothing more. Jeancey (talk) 09:58, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
Sellus Gravius Fight Rating Question[edit]
Sellus Gravius has a Fight value of 40: Will attack if they dislike you, and you get close (500 Units, disposition 10).
I got his disposition to zero but he dosen't attack me, any idea why?
Also, I have a query: What is 500 units in-game? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 15:14, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
- The fight values aren't really on a nice scale like that. Pretty much every non-hostile NPC will not attack you unless you attack them first, or you commit a crime in front of them. I'm not sure where the scale came from, but I know it isn't entirely accurate. Jeancey (talk) 16:51, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
-
- It came from the Morrowind NPCs page, actually.
- So, what is 500 units in-game? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 19:23, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
- I mean, I'm not really sure where it came from originally. 500 units is 500 units... there is no conversion. It is a certain distance.... I'm not sure how to describe it any other way. There is no possible conversion in feet or meters or anything. Umm... Area of effect spells are also in units, so just create an area of effect light spell that is 10 units or so, and that should give you an idea of how far 500 units would be. Jeancey (talk) 19:26, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
-
-
-
- Thanks for the answer. So 500 units would be a long distance for Sellus Gravius to detect the player, again, like you said, the Fight Values aren't exactly 100% right. So could that be why? Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk) 13:21, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
- Likely the values on the page are a combination of their fight and their alarm. From what I can tell, the alarm just does the distance, while the fight controls WHAT will cause them to react. So if someone has 100 alarm, then it would happen at 500 units, but if someone has 10 alarm, you would need to be committing the crime directly on top of them (i.e. pickpocketing) in order for them to attack. It is also possible that some characters are permanently set to be non hostile and will never attack no matter what. Jeancey (talk) 19:11, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
- Where in the Morrowind Construction Set can the Fight and Alarm values be found? I have been looking for a while now. — Unsigned comment by Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk • contribs) at 16:20 on 3 June 2013

(←) I have figured it out now. When a NPC shouts something at the player for a crime it notifies other NPC's in the area. I believe that the NPC's alarm value affects how far their call for Guards goes, so 0 means they won't call for help, unless guards are within close proximity (I think) — Unsigned comment by Tamriel&Sovngarde (talk • contribs) at 16:48 on 3 June 2013
Question[edit]
Hi, Jeancey! When I'm writing dialogue for morrowind npcs, should the dialogue be italicized, or not? Thanks in advance! --Maroonroar (talk) 20:52, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
- Oh, yes. It should be. That was my bad on a recent NPC, I converted a prose rumor to a word for word rumor, but didn't italicize. Direct quotes should be in italics. Jeancey (talk) 20:54, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
