Reproposing these Easter Eggs

I am re-proposing these easter eggs since I feel the page didn't get enough attention since it got so massively bloated with content, and they got significant support. See Archive 3 to see what I am talking about. Comments are to see what people previously said.

Naugahyde

This one seems obvious to me, but i'm a child of the 70s and have nightmares of sticking to the fake leather seats of my dad's Pontiac in the middle of summer... Concerning the Nagahide Welwa Ravager…

While Nagahide is likely a reference to the Naga, it is also a play on Naugahyde, a brand of imitation leather.--Ray75228 (talk) 01:25, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

I support this. I should also add that this Naga is an imitation itself, in that it is a type of Lizard-Steed, creatures created by the Hist as imitations of mounts used by other races to allow argonians to travel long distances.Zebendal (talk) 01:34, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks guys. Zeb, didn't even think about the lore reason of the hist creating an imitation of a steed. Legoless, the material is very dated from the 60s and 70s. It was cheap, uncomfortable, and didn't last long (a month in front of a window and it'd shred). So unless you're an old fogey like me, you'd probably never heard of it. But for those of us to lived through the dark times, it's very memorable. It feels too good to be a coincidence. This is one thing that they probably could and would answer, so we should keep our eyes out for AMA's or livestreams where the question would fit, over the next couple of weeks. Scientific names

There are three bosses in March of Sacrifices called Wyress Strigidae, Rangifer, and Ursus. These are the real life scientific names for owls, reindeer and bears respectively, which are the exact aspects that they spawn upon death. Thoughts? Contraptions (talk) 15:35, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Various Pets

I believe that the following pets are Easter Eggs. They are numbered for your convenience.

1. Alinor Ringtail "Desperado", a reference to Wild West outlaws. In pop culture, they are sometimes depicted with a mask like the character Zorro, which parallels the coloring of the Alinor Ringtail.
2. Dark Moons Lynx "Southpaw", a reference to the boxing stance.
3. Deep-Moss Ash Hopper "Wub Bug", a reference to lovebugs, but with a childish mispronunciation of "love".
4. Two pets, the Frostbane Pony Guar "Jingles" and the High Hrothgar Wraith "Tinsel" are both references to Christmas. They are both wintery animals, and tinsel is a common Christmas decoration.
5. Haunting Indrik "Requiem", a reference to requiems. The Indrik is ghostly and requiems are "Masses for the dead".
6. The Mudcrab of Eternal Doom references DOOM Eternal, which it says plainly on the page. Should it be moved to Online:Easter Eggs?
7. Noweyr Pony "Neigh-Neigh", a reference to the popular dance move, the "Nae Nae".
8. Pale-Plume Fledgling Gryphon "Baldy", a refereence to Bald eagles, which iis already stated on the page. Should it be moved to Online:Easter Eggs?

Re Southpaw: "Southpaw" is a general American English term for left-handers and has also been used in baseball for many years to refer to left-handed pitchers (there is a story that the term "southpaw" originated in baseball due to ball diamonds being oriented in such a way that a left-handed pitcher's arm was on the south side of their body, but the term was in use prior to that). Is there anything that ties a Dark Moons Lynx to boxing specifically? — Wolfborn^(Howl) 02:41, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Nope, I didn't know there were so many uses of the word. I only knew it from boxing because of a relative of mine. "Being a real word" was not a criterion by which I assembled this list, so just pretend it's not there. :P -Dcsg (talk) 05:35, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

I think 1, 3, 4, 5, 8 are all solid and could perhaps get a section on the page for various meanings to collectibles rather than separate sections. 3 is important cause Ash Hoppers look an awful lot like Lovebugs so it could maybe be noted on its own pets section, same goes for all of them I don't think anything needs to be moved to just one page, 6 and 7 are pop culture references to specific things so they can get their own sections. These seem fine to add aside from #2 I guess, per Wolfborn. I wouldn't remove the info from the pet entries—usually for Easter egg info we restrict it to this page, but these two are fairly self-evident. Particularly for the Mudcrab of Eternal Doom, I think it's important to keep the note on the pet page since that item is more of a cross-promotion than an Easter egg to begin with. —⁠Legoless (talk) 09:52, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

I agree with Legoless. My only concern is that these are a bit weak as far as Easter Eggs go. For example, one line from Cadwell says "Do you want to know how many Daedra can dance on the head of a pin?" which is a very obvious reference to How many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Does that line count as an Easter Egg? I'd lean towards arguing yes if we are counting these, personally. I think there are a lot of minor real-world references like this throughout ESO (to find that example I simply went to the article for the first character I could think of, and read the page until I found an example). Betnikh Limerikh

The poem Betnikh Limerikh, which opens with "There one was an Orc from Betnikh", seems to be a reference to the common limerick opening There once was a man from Nantucket. Dark Souls

In the Forgotten Cells area right where the player starts off in the Isle of Balfiera tutorial, before going through the door with Norianwe after you choose your weapon, to the right within a cell, you can find a knight's spirit around a bonfire with an Ancestral High Elf Style sword in it. This is an obvious reference to Dark Soul's bonfire mechanic, and a quick google search will show this in images. Additionally, the Nighthollow Style worn by the ghostly knight resembles armor from the Dark Souls series.

This is just in PTS right now, but I propose that if this goes live when the chapter launches next month, this should qualify in the easter eggs page.

Cut Content

The Cut Content entry directly references a previous Elder Scrolls game. Given that Easter Eggs are supposed to be things outside other Elder Scrolls games, shouldn't this entry be removed? The Incredible Hulk

In ESO Live: 6/24 Update 11 Preview Special #1 it is mentioned that animations, attacks, dialogue etc. of Xal-Nur the Slaver is based of Hulk from Marvel Comics. They speak very similarly ie "Smash the rats! Smash!" to "Hulk smash!" and "Xal-Nur crush puny wamasu!" to "Puny god!" etc, and they even mention getting Fred Tatasciore to voice him, as he often voices Hulk in Marvel cartoons. Easter Egg Removal: Sabrina the Teenage Witch

I propose the removal of this easter egg from the list. according to in the esolog entry, the Black Cat's default name is "Mimi", not "Salem". The cat hasn't been called Salem since at least 2018, as is evident by this revision to the pet's furnishing image, wherein Lurlock adds "Mimi" to the nickname field in the furnishing summary template. This edit to Online:Pets suggests the name "Salem" was datamined in 2016, but never made it to the live release.

This is incorrect. The Black Cat pet was available to Japanese players at release on June 23, 2016. It was later made available via the Crown Store in February 2017. When the Salem name was datamined, the pet was already in-game. I will update the Easter egg to note that the default name has since been removed, but the fact that it was ever in-game should be grounds enough to keep it on the page. —⁠Legoless (talk) 09:20, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Sad Keanu Skeleton

Along the path from the back entrance of Zenithar Abbey, Blackwood there is a skeleton posed on a bench which resembles the Sad Keanu meme image from 2010. For more information, like the image for comparsion, look here.

Kindergarten Cop

It looks like its not one specific to Daric but rather a generic Drunk greeting, likely one only spoken by male Nords, hence the Germanic/Austrian accent would make sense. Bastian Dialogue

I feel like Bastian's Mage Guild Daily completion dialogue: "One of the greatest laws of magic is sympathy. The greater the sympathetic link between two objects, the more they influence each other. It's nearly an exact quotation yeah, the original quote is "The law of sympathy is one of the most basic parts of magic. It states that the more similar two objects are the greater the sympathetic link. The greater the sympathetic link, the more easily they influence each other." we should definitely add it. Reference of Terminator 2: Hand Drown in Lava Scene

Found this area in Stone Garden dungeon (Stonethorn DLC) from The Elder Scrolls Online, where it might have resemblance to a scene in Terminator 2, when the Terminator was drown in lava while doing thumbs up after. Agra Crun is a Easter egg reference to the Jedi Order.

Agra Crun are an interesting group of people, introduced in the Orsinium Dlc. But there is evidence to suggest there could be a direct easter egg to the Jedi Order and the path they follow along with a reference to Yoda's famous line that is unmistakable. "The Blood Shields? To most, we are shadows. But for a precious few, we are a beacon of light. Light gets brought up quite a bit in Azraths dialogue. "Go to the residential district and find the house where the light of Malacath shrines. Follow the light. It will guide you to Kroma. Give the scroll that contains the sacred words to her and only to her. In Star Wars Light is the path of the force that is the good side of the force. This is the reference that backs up this being an Easter egg towards the Jedi and Yoda. "One does not become Agra Crun. One is or is not. I was raised by the faith, trained since birth to complete the tasks Malacath wishes of me. One does not become Agra Crun, One is or is Not, is a reference to Do or do not, there is no try. As well as being raised from birth or a young age, is a reference to how the Jedi take people that young to train them.

Seinfield II

Vinland Saga

The characters Askeladd and Thorkell are found very close to each other outside Solitude, both named after major characters in Vinland Saga. Given the names are spelled the same way as in the show despite the many possible spelling variations irl, it looks to be very intentionally referencing the show. Looks possible. Thorkell's weapon of choice is also an axe and he resembles the anime character a bit. the npc Askeladd doesn't resemble the manga character however, but the named characters being near each other and having the names from Vinland Saga looks intentional.Analeah Oaksong (talk) 21:27, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

In terms of appearance they all have beards too. In the time since I've suggested this, a character named Thorfinn (also using the exact spelling from the manga) was added in who is equipped with dual daggers, which is also the trademark weapons of Thorfinn from the anime. Marvel Infinty War and End Game

During Deadlands after a quest, Lyranth takes a pose similar to Doctor Strange in Infinity War. During one of the last quests, everyone portals in a similar way to how everyone does in Endgame, and then everyone vanishes similar to the Snap/Blip, and later gets blipped back. Also, Mehrunes Dagon says I am inevitable similar to Thanos. Obvious ref.Zebendal (talk) 02:11, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

This is a bit of a stretch. Lyranth levitating might be similar to Doctor Strange but to our knowledge she wasn't "viewing all possible futures" or anything of the sort. The portal thing is a plot device common to ESO, and portal magic played a major role in the Gates of Oblivion story. The Dagon quote is a desperate "[...] I am absolute! I am inevitable! [...]", which is nothing like Thanos' delivery in Endgame. It's also far from the only time Dagon claimed that he/his plans/destruction is inevitable. —⁠Legoless (talk) 15:02, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

As corny as it is, I wouldn't put it passed millennial Zenimax devs to make a Marvel reference, these jokes were very popular at the time and I'd be lying if I said Dr. Strange wasn't the first thing I thought of when I saw Lyranth's magic scrying. Great Gatsby

Writer-designer Tori Dougherty instructed Alchemy's voice actor (Julianne Grossman) to base her performance on Daisy from The Great Gatsby, according to Discover the Team and Work Behind the Music & Sounds of Summerset. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 20:46, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

While not doubting that this happened at all, I'm not sure instructions on how specifically to play a character is an easter egg in any way. It's like a "How should they sound? Loud, soft, high pitched?" "Oh, do it like Daisy from the Great Gatsby". I think it's an interesting note for the Alchemy article, but I don't think it qualifies as an easter egg. Fortnite

The layout of Galen shares many similarities to the island from Fortnite, particularly in its shape and locations of bodies of water (ie Y'ffre's Path is very similar to Loot Lake). Furthermore, the quest A Wailing Wood takes you to the Valley of the Watcher in the forested northeast corner of the island; this appears to be a reference to the location Wailing Woods, which was a forest also found in the Fortnite island's northeast corner. Alaxon'ald

Alaxon'ald is a striking locale in Summerset. It is a homonym of Alex Honnold, a famous rock-climber. The location features a tall spire of rock (perfect for climbing, it even has tree branch that'd be a good place to hang a rope) with a small camp at the base. Given this is the only PoI on Summerset that never gets any explanation (in-game or on the stream) this actually makes a ton of sense. Its a rather mundane PoI with a climbing camp at the base of a mountain and the name is as close as you can get to him without being overly obvious. I support it. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Darien's opening dialogue in The Blood-Spattered Shield in Rivenspire quotes; "This? It's merely a flesh wound! Think nothing of it." Given Darien's status as a knight, it's incredibly likely this may be a reference to the iconic Black Knight fight scene from the film, in which the aforementioned knight famously states that his recently cut-off arms are "merely a flesh wound." Not sure if it should be added as easter eggs are a touchy thing to add given the decisive nature if they were intentional or not. However, other confirmed easter eggs alluding to Monty Python lends credence to the fact it may be intentional. Kazmakazii (talk) 15:04, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

The Little Mermaid

Iron Man

The Dwemervamidium Mirage bears a heavy resemblance to Iron Man's suit, having a glowing center where the Arc Reactor would be. While this isn't enough to warrant a reference alone, the icon for this memento is literally "memento_iron man x form_01", referencing the Mark X suit he wears in Iron Man 3, confirming the reference. Firefly

The "Uh... Never Mind" emote seems to be a clear reference to this gif of the character Mal from Firefly, since it involves your character performing the same motions: reaching forward with their right hand, then closing their hand as they pull it back to briefly touch their mouth/nose, then resting their palm against their cheek. ~ Alarra ^{(talk • contribs)} 05:26, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

Spider-Man 2

The description of the Oakensoul Ring reads "The might of the druids, in the palm of your hand.", a reference to Doctor Octopus' famous quote "The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand." from Spider-Man 2. I considered that but what solidifies this a reference for me is the first part of "might of the druids", both follow "The ____ of the ____, in the palm of my hand", which none of the wikiquote examples you linked do. There is "the quantity of an hazel-nut, in the palm of my hand", which while it doesn't match the exact pattern, is fairly close. The fact that "of an" is the closest you could find to "of the" (which only led to the aforementioned Spider-Man film wikiquotes from what I saw) further supports my point. Barring that, "might" is literally a synonym of power, in fact two definitions of might are "superior power or strength; force:" and "power or ability to do or accomplish; capacity:" so they are effectively interchangeable ("power of the druids" or "might of the sun"). Consistency

There are currently three references to the plays of William Shakespeare included on the page. The first two reference the play Hamlet and are found under the heading Hamlet. The third references the play The Merchant of Venice and is found under the heading William Shakespeare. For consistency, I believe either:

1. The heading of the third reference should be changed from "William Shakespeare" to "The Merchant of Venice", or
2. All three references should be grouped together under the heading "William Shakespeare".

Is there a standard for this? Do people have strong opinions either way? Personally, I would go with option 2, but I'm fine with option 1 if that's the standard/community consensus. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? — Wolfborn^(Howl) 20:05, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Also notable that al-Cybiades is actually a moniker. Azandar's real name is al-Kozanset, which he has to awkwardly explain away when you return to his hometown with him. Why would the writers bother pretending he is from an obscure island province when this has to be contradicted as part of the story? The Turquoise Nixad's description might be a nod to the opening of the Bee Movie script.

Description: "Scholars think the iridescent blue Turquoise Nixad must have inherent magical properties, because those wings certainly aren't big enough to enable it to fly. Yet fly it does, flitting about like a beautiful human-shaped hummingbird moth."

Star Wars Episode 3

On the map for Zainsipilu (Morrowind DLC), a figure looking like Anakin Skywalker burned on Mustafar can be found (see image and map). You were the Neravarine! It was said that you would, destroy the House Unmourned, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to Vvardenfel, not leave it in Blight.

The traveling vendor in Stormhaven (Online) Taqiat the Thrifty greets you with "By the thousand scales of Satakal, what savings!" I'm pretty sure this is a reference to Alan Rickman's character Sir Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest.
