Walkthrough

When you talk to Thoralf, he'll be happy to join you; unfortunately, his hammer has been stolen. As he'll tell you, a Nord without his hammer is utterly worthless. But fear not - you can help! After gaining permission from the Countess, he'll lead you to the nearby Cursed Mine, where he says a rat dragged his hammer inside. Since he was unarmed, he was afraid to go after it, but now that you're here, you can get it for him.

As it turns out, your sword (dagger, mace, staff, whatever) will come in handy - the place is infested with vampires. The deeper reaches of the mine lead to a crypt; find the patriarch and kill him; Thoralf's hammer is lying on an altar in the same room. After recovering it, leave the mine and reunite with Thoralf. He'll tell you to meet him back in the great hall, where he petitions the countess for permission to join you. She'll grant it (conditionally), and Thoralf is now yours.

20		When we arrived at an old mine, Thoralf confessed to me that there were a few critters in there had stolen the hammer. And without his hammer, he's not going anywhere. He wants me to accompany him and help get the hammer out of there.
30		When we penetrated deeper into the mine, we reached an eerie entrance. Thoralf seemed a little afraid. He said he wanted to secure the retreat while I bring him the hammer.
50		I found Thoralf's hammer in a vampire-infested tomb.
60		I've brought Thoralf Metschlund his hammer back. However, he cannot join me, at least not as long as he is in the Countess' service. I need to talk with the Countess and ask her to release him.
70		The Countess is ready to dismiss Thoralf from her service, but he must swear to settle his debt with her.
100	Finishes quest	Thoralf vowed to settle his debt with the Countess and entered into my service. I wonder what debt that might be. I will ask Thoralf about it some time.

Notes

• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ODDNQToralf stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
