Question about Items page[edit]
Hey, I ran across Morrowind:Enchanted Items by Type on a Random Page cleanup spree yesterday and immediately got the urge to reorganize it. Since I wasn't really sure what your long-term plans for the page were, I figured I should check with you before doing anything drastic. All I'm really looking at doing for the moment is just reformatting it into tables. Is that okay with you, or should I just leave it for now? --Eshetalk14:20, 21 February 2008 (EST)
- I suppose you could (see also Enchanted Clothing by Type). Only thing is I'm not sure if we should keep those pages around or instead merge the info onto other pages, such as those listed on Armor, Weapons and Clothing, which also provide pictures of the items listed. (Only one missing is the armor type pages, and Cuirasses, which I didn't get around to given the sheer number of them, and the fact that I'll have to do them all for both male and female NPCs like I did with the clothing, possibly including the special female models added by the LeFemm Armor etc. It'll have to wait until I get back from San Fran., because I don't have the CS on this laptop.) Another possibility I discussed with DrPhoton was to put the info onto Item Materials and Styles, though it's possible my new item pages may make that page obsolete as well. (I never really liked it much anyhow.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:24, 23 February 2008 (EST)
- Okay, how about this: I'll stick what I've done in a sandbox and let you take a look at it. All I've done is convert it into tables. It could probably use some more work/reorganization, but we'll see what people think first, I guess! —Eshetalk16:48, 23 February 2008 (EST)
- That sounds like a plan - even if these pages end up getting deleted, the charts you make on your sandbox might still end up being placed onto whatever pages we decide to put this stuff. One other problem that occurred to me was that the pages aren't accurately named anyhow; not all the items listed on them are "enchanted". Certain quest-specific items and other variants which use the same graphics are also listed. (I did in most cases opt not to include those items which were identical in all but ID. It had to have either a different name or different stats to be listed. Otherwise, we'd end up including a lot of uninteresting stuff like an Iron Dagger that appears stuck in a door holding up a note in one quest, and other such minutia.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 17:07, 23 February 2008 (EST)
- Yeah, good point. It's up now, if you want to have a look-see. —Eshetalk17:24, 23 February 2008 (EST)
- It looks good, except for one potential problem - some of those charts are really quite bulky - Iron, Silver and especially Steel. I'm wondering if there might be a more efficient way of arranging those to save space. Say, having multiple columns for the larger charts, or maybe eliminating that first column (which is mostly blank except for one rowspan'd line each) in favor of single header cells, e.g.:

Hi, Lurlock, I saw your NepheleBot request. But quite frankly I've been staying as far away as possible from the Morrowind item pages lately because I have no idea what's being done with them anymore. When I asked DrPhoton a month ago I was told that the reorganization was done. Yet it seems like since then the pages have been reorganized two more times. And when I look through the various discussions, such as this one and this one, I can't see any clear plan or explanation for all these new item pages. It seems like there are now four (if not more) pages devoted to each item in the game (e.g., greaves are on Morrowind:Item_List/Armor, Morrowind:Base Armor, Morrowind:Item_Materials_and_Styles, and Morrowind:Greaves). And given that I'm simultaneously being barraged with questions about the Oblivion item pages reorganization, I really don't want to get involved in any more item-related pages unless I'm confident that there is some overall plan and that everyone agrees to that plan. --NepheleTalk 23:59, 26 February 2008 (EST)
- Well, to avoid any further confussion about item pages, I will start a discussion at Morrowind talk:Items with the reorganization plan. --DrPhoton 03:25, 6 March 2008 (EST)

- Another thing to work on might be to create similar charts for all items of a given type but different materials, e.g. all Longswords or Light Helms or something. These would fit better onto the item pages I created last week. (The current ones would be good for pages about specific item materials, such as those I planned for but haven't yet created on Armor.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 17:46, 23 February 2008 (EST)

Images[edit]
Ok, now I really don't know what's going on. I brightened the image using an external tool, and compared them. The difference was obvious, but when I uploaded the new version, it changed nothing. I know images can seem darker when uploaded, but this is ridiculous. I'd email you the edited version so you can have a look at it offline, and see what I mean, but I don't think I can email you file unless I do it from my own non-uesp account. If you want to see it, then tell me, if you know what's wrong at once, then still tell me. Thanks. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 06:49, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
- This could very well have to do with the fact that your browser only shows the cached version of the image. Load the page, and refresh (F5) the page. It should then show the latest uploaded image. I just checked it, and the image is really there. --Timenn < talk > 07:56, 13 March 2008 (EDT)

- Ah, ok. Now I feel like an idiot :| Ah well, it's done now. Thanks! (This is Game Lord, but I forgot to sign in).
Quest header issue[edit]
Hi Lurlock,
I having a discussion with Benould about picture sizes in quest headers. He's of the opinion that the oblong pictures ruin the page, and I suggested adding a size definition in Template:Quest Header. I looked at Template:Quest_Header and saw that there isn't a defined size, but was unwilling to add one as I feared it may spoil other, differently-sized image. So I thought to ask you, as a higher authority, of you opinion. Thanks - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:03, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
- Personally, I make a habit of keeping my images at screen-sized aspect ratio (4:3). The problem is that different users have different settings for their default thumbnail size (which is adjustable to look best on different screen resolutions), and if you specify a size on thumbnails, you override the user's settings, which can end up making images HUGE on smaller-resolution monitors, and also increase page-load time for those with slower connections. Unfortunately, the default thumbnail setting only determines a maximum width, not height. So tall, vertical images will end up unusually large, while wider images end up much smaller. By keeping the images to a standard aspect ratio of 4:3, you ensure that they won't be overblown on a page. For some images, I'll go square instead, but taller, vertical formats I generally avoid due to the way they blow up unnecessarily large on the page. On smaller NPC pages, this isn't as much of an issue, but it can really waste a lot of space on things like quest pages. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:11, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
Sandbox Question[edit]
Hi Lurlock,
It's alway's been on my mind. What specifically are "sandboxes?" As in, you have sandboxes on your userpage, Eshe has them, Ratwar has two. After all these months, I've never really have known. Thanks --Playjex 18:18, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
- Sandboxes are just places where you can play around and test things. The main sandbox is at UESPWiki:Sandbox, but that gets cleaned up every couple of days, so some of us have decided to keep our own personal sandboxes in our User space. You can create your own if you want to, just by creating a red link from your User page and clicking on it. --TheRealLurlock Talk 19:18, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
I'd like to join the Morrowind redesign project[edit]
I'd love to join the project if ya have me. How do I go about that? My main focus would be expanding Morrowind stubs and clean-up. Cheers.--Benould 23:17, 14 March 2008 (EDT)
- To be honest, I think you're already a part of the project! Really though, beyond adding your name on the project page and diving in, there's not much to it ;). –Eshetalk23:21, 14 March 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, what she said. There's no "application process" or anything like that. Just add your name where you think you'll be doing the most contributions and keep doing what you're doing. --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:06, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
- Hehe, cool. It's done. --Benould 01:10, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
