Tom Jones, replacing Cyrus

Tom Jones is an Easter egg NPC created during the game's development, based upon the popular real-world singer of the same name. The Tom Jones model appeared during Bethesda's E3 presentation of Redguard, with his song "It's Not Unusual" accompanying the appearance at the Palace in the final scene of the demo.[1] He will not be encountered under normal gameplay conditions, although he is still found in the game files. The easiest method to encounter him would be to replace a model of a different character with Tom Jones. Tom Jones has a dancing animation that consists of swaying his hands and hips left and right, and he holds a microphone in his right hand. He is dressed in a white shirt, gray pants, brown belt, beige patterned boots, and green fingerless gloves.

Todd Howard described the circumstances for Tom Jones' addition to the game while going over his memories of the series: "Another Redguard moment was before E3 1997. We were up all-night and starting to feel the effects of little sleep and had been listening to this Tom Jones CD to keep us alert. The next thing you know our lead artist had a 3D Tom Jones model and we threw him in the game." [1]

Notes[edit]

  • He is one of the few characters named directly after a real person, one of the others being Lynda Carter.
  • The nose of the model and the texture do not match, the nose on the model ends much higher and shorter than the texture.
