Quick Walkthrough

1. Talk to Ireldaya in the Old Seawater Inn in Charach about Kayd.
2. Ask local Fishermen about Kayd.
3. Speak to Ashamti on the beach with 60+ disposition.
4. Approach the island to the southwest of the lighthouse between 8pm and 6am.
5. Either:
   • Agree to keep the secret (1x Gold Ore, +20 disposition with Kayd)
   • Demand extra to keep the secret (3x Gold Ore, -10 disposition with Kayd)
   • Refuse to keep the secret (rewards nothing).
6. (Optional) Taunt the goblin.
7. Return to Ireldaya and either:
   • Lie (requires 1x Gold Ore to succeed).
   • If Kayd died during ill-advised goblin on Nerevarine action, receive 120 gold.
   • Reveal the secret, and then:
     1. Report to a Guard.
     2. Return to Ireldaya.

Detailed Walkthrough

The publican of the Old Seawater Inn, Ireldaya, is a curious sort. Speaking to her will see her immediately attempt to enlist you in investigating Kayd, who has grown wealthy overnight with the discovery of several chunks of gold while fishing. Ireldaya doesn't think his story passes the sniff test, and will ask you to investigate. Agree, and she will suggest asking other townsfolk about Kayd as a starting point. Most won't know much about him, but any with the Fisherman class will refer you to Ashamti, a pearl diver on Charach's beach.

Ashamti likes Kayd, and won't be too willing to trust you with his secrets. She'll open up at 60 disposition or more. She reports that every night he returns from the island southwest of the lighthouse. This is where you need to investigate - but what you're looking for only appears at night. Travel out to the island between 8pm and 6am, and you will see a black sail - a goblin raft, and Kayd next to it. As you approach, Kayd will speak to you.

It turns out that he's been trading supplies to the Wavereaver Goblins in exchange for gold nuggets. Given that the Wavereavers are pirates, and he openly acknowledges giving them the material to build ships, it's safe to say that this secret is one he's very keen to keep. You can either agree to keep quiet, and receive 1x Gold Ore for your trouble (and +20 disposition with Kayd), extort him (for 3x Gold Ore and -10 disposition), or say that you cannot keep quiet. Kayd will dismiss you if you pick this latter option.

You can additionally speak to the goblin, in which case you will have the option of taunting it into attacking - an assault that Kayd will join. If Kayd dies, then Ireldaya will reward you with 120 gold only for this outcome - advising that you make yourself scarce.

Regardless of how you resolved the confrontation, it's time to report back to Ireldaya. If Kayd died after taunting his goblin pal, you can only report this fact, and will receive 120 gold for this action. If he lives, you have two options - lie to hide his secret, or expose it. Lying successfully requires that you have a single piece of Gold Ore in your inventory, and rewards a bottle of Plallo's Vineyard Wine. Exposing the secret means a little extra legwork - Ireldaya will insist that you report it to a guard. Once you have, she'll reward you with a single bottle of Isquel, and one of Twin Moons Wine. Kayd will be arrested.

10		Ireldaya, the keeper of the Old Seawater inn, told me that the fisherman Kayd has recently acquired several chunks of gold and claims that he fished them up. However, his story sounds suspect to her, and she wants me to investigate where he's really getting the gold from.
20		The pearl diver Ashamti told me that Kayd often goes fishing after dark by the tiny island southwest of Charach's lighthouse.
30		At his nighttime fishing spot, I found Kayd trading with goblins on a raft. When I confronted him, he told me that the goblins happened to meet him when he was out fishing one day and have been giving him chunks of gold in exchange for some simple shipbuilding supplies. He asked me not to reveal this to anyone, and offered me a piece of the gold in exchange.
40		I agreed to keep Kayd's secret. He thanked me and gave me a chunk of gold to prove to Ireldaya that his story was true.
50		I agreed to keep Kayd's secret, but only if he gave me some of the profits. He was upset with me, but gave me three chunks of gold for my silence and to prove to Ireldaya that his story was true.
60		I refused to keep Kayd's secret and he angrily told me to leave.
65		Ireldaya told me to report Kayd to the Charach guards.
70		I attacked the goblins that Kayd was trading with and he started fighting me.
75		I attatcked Kayd while he was trading with the goblins.
80		I reported Kayd to a Charach guard for aiding the goblins' piracy. The guard thanked me and told me that they would arrest him shortly.
90	Finishes quest	I told Ireldaya that Kayd was telling the truth and showed her a chunk of gold to prove it. She seemed a little skeptical, but thanked me for my investigation and rewarded me with a bottle of wine.
100	Finishes quest	I told Ireldaya that Kayd was telling the truth, but had no proof of his story. She did not believe me and gave me no reward for investigating him.
110	Finishes quest	I told Ireldaya that Kayd had been trading with goblins to get his gold and had been arrested for aiding their piracy. She thanked me for my investigation and rewarded me with some bottles of expensive wine.
120	Finishes quest	I told Ireldaya that Kayd attacked me after I attacked the goblins he was trading with and that I killed him in self-defense. She thanked me for my investigation, but warned me that the fishermen of Stirk would disapprove of what I had done. She rewarded me with some gold and advised me to use it to catch a boat to the mainland.
130	Finishes quest	I told Ireldaya that I killed Kayd. She was angry at me and gave me no reward.
140	Finishes quest	Ireldaya is dead.
