Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Ancient Relics for a Collector[edit]

To start the quest, speak with Caspus Quillan in Duskwatch Keep about jobs once you've completed Vintage Isquel. Apparently satisfied with your ability to track down rare items, Caspus want you to now find a pair of Alessian bronze boots. Caspus will inform you that, unlike with the isquel, these boots are ancient and can only be found buried in old Colovian barrows. The crew at Duskwatch has already scoured the barrows on Stirk and where unable to find anything. He'll direct you instead to the barrows around Anvil and Thresvy and suggest asking your guildmates at Duskwatch Keep for advice. Charles doesn't have much info for you, though Vandelenwe will suggest Darach Barrow near Thresvy. You can also go to Cassanda for information, which she will provide you with for 250 gold. She'll tell you much the same as Vandelenwe, that the boots can be found in Darach Barrow southeast of Thresvy. She'll also give you a cheap rising force potion on the off chance you'll need it to reach an elevated burial.

Finding the Boots[edit]

With the location of the boots uncovered, it's time to head to Darach Barrow. But first you might want to stock up on supplies. Unless you have a very high acrobatics skill, you'll need a jump or levitate spell or potion to reach the boots. You might also want an invisibility or chameleon spell or potion to help you sneak past the barrowguards and skeletons that dwell within the barrow, though fighting them is a valid option too; none of the barrow's inhabitants are particularly strong.

Once you're supplied you can head out for the barrow. The fastest way there from Duskwatch Keep is to head to the Charach's port and pay Sinedus Notius to transport you to Thresvy. From there follow the road east through the small village until you pass Adrik the Unseen's farm, then turn south until you reach the western edge of a small lake; the barrow will be on the eastern slope of a hill to your west. The entire barrow is dark enough that it should be easy to sneak through the entire place undetected as long as you keep an eye out for the barrow's undead denizens, though you should be aware that one of these denizens might spot you entering and attack before you have a chance to begin sneaking. To reach the boots you'll want to walk through the first hallway, walk straight through the room you enter to the opposite hallway, turn right in the next room, proceed left through the flooded room, and then continue into the lower level of the barrow.

Once in the lower level you'll want to continue left, past the barrow denizen, and then right into a large room with a large, central pillar. The Alessian bronze boots are in this room, in a large burial niche atop the pillar. The niche can be accessed from the western side of the pillar, but be aware that a barrow denizen might be waiting for you there. To reach the niche you'll likely need the aforementioned jump or levitation spell or potion, though those who are particularly acrobatic may be able to just jump up the urns found below the niche. Once in the niche you'll find the boots as well as a wide assortment of barrow loot, including gems and First Empire coins. Loot the boots and then make your way out of the barrow.

Return to Caspus[edit]

Once you're safely out of the barrow, make your way back to Duskwatch Keep and give Caspus the Alessian bronze boots for your reward of 1000 gold.

Index Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 Caspus Quillan asked me to find him a pair of Alessian bronze boots. He said I'd have to search for them inside an old barrow on the Strident Coast. Caspus suggested that I start from checking barrows near Anvil or Thresvy, and offered me to ask other guild members for advice.
20 Vandelenwe suggested that I check Darach Barrow near Thresvy for the boots based on what she knew of Colo-Nordic history.
30 Cassanda said that Thresvy is where I should start looking for nearby barrows. She told me Darach Barrow is the closest one, a little ways southeast of the town. She suggested I try looking there first and recommended searching for the boots in high places.
100 Finishes quest☑ Caspus rewarded me for finding him the boots.

Notes[edit]

  • The pair of Alessian Bronze Boots found in Darach Barrow are the only pair available in the game; if you give them to Caspus you won't be able to find another pair anywhere.
