I discovered a journal of a thief named Agolas. He stole some goods in Orsinium, but found they were too hot to sell to a fence. Meanwhile, he framed someone named Zabani for the crime.
Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Find Agolas's Journal near Aqueduct Rock.
- Find the stolen goods.
- Decide what to do about Zabani and the mug.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
You can talk to Zabani, who is imprisoned for the crime, in the dungeon of Scarp Keep. She will explain how she was arrested for stealing something from the King's cornerclub, but claims she is innocent, and suspects her traveling partner Agolas. You are sent to find his journal at a campsite near Aqueduct Rock. The journal is on a table in the middle of the camp.
The journal contains a clue as to where to find the stolen goods—"aqueduct legs, narrow tree, gray serpent", which refers to a location just north of the camp. Here, you will find Agolas digging at a suspicious mound of dirt, and you will need to kill him. Afterwards, dig up the Hideous Mug and don't miss a Note to Agolas which appears on the ground. Reading the note will add an extra choice in the quest later on, as it is signed "Z", suggesting that Zabani was working with Agolas.
You must now choose whether to return to Zabani in Scarp Keep, or sell the mug to Agolas's buyer Astilme, who can be found at The Greedy Gut. If you talk to Zabani, and you read the note at the hiding spot, you can offer to prove her innocence or prove she was involved. She will try to convince you to lie for her. If you did not read the note, you are only able to prove her innocence. Either way, you can then talk to Warden Oorg, or take this final opportunity to see Astilime and sell the mug. If you talk to the warden and did not read the note, the only option is to prove Zabani's innocence, and the quest will end with the warden giving you a reward for finding the king's lucky mug. If you read the note and implicate her in the theft, you will receive the same reward. If you read the note and decide to lie to the warden and claim Zabani's innocence, she will be released and you can then meet her at the Greedy Gut for a cut of her emergency funds as payment for your silence.
Notes[edit]
- If you implicate Zabani in the theft of the mug and return to speak to her afterwards, there is a reference to the Dark Brotherhood, regardless of whether or not you are a member.
- You can ask a fence about the mug if it's in your inventory, but they merely mention that it's obviously stolen and will recommend you take it away before the guards get wise.
- You still receive a money reward when choosing the path to free Zabani instead of selling the mug.

Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
I should search for the stolen goods. The journal said they were located just north of Aqueduct Rock, at the intersection of "aqueduct legs, narrow tree, gray serpent."
Objective: Find the stolen goods.
|
|
I should decide what to do with this hideous mug. I could speak with Zabani about what I dug up. However, Agolas's journal mentioned a buyer. If I wanted, I could sell the mug to Astilme.
Complete one: Talk to Zabani or Sell mug to Astilme

|
(if talked to Zabani) Zabani wants me to turn over the hideous mug. I should speak with Warden Oorg to determine her fate. However, Agolas's journal mentioned a buyer. If I wanted, I could sell the mug to Astilme.
Complete one: Talk to Warden Oorg or Sell mug to Astilme

|
( if talked to Warden and turned Zabani in) I returned the mug to Warden Oorg. I should speak to him about a reward.
Objective: Talk to Warden Oorg.

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
