Hiath the Battlemaster

Hiath the Battlemaster is a Dark Elf follower of Boethiah and the current champion of the Dragonstar Arena.

Skills and Abilities[edit]

Hiath the Battlemaster will summon previously fought bosses as reinforcements at set intervals. At 75%, he summons Champion Marcauld and Mavus Talnarith. At 40%, he summons the Dark Mage and Yavni Frost-Skin. Only in Normal mode at 25%, he summons the Earthen Heart Knight and Pishna Longshot. These can all overlap if they are not slain in time for the next health interval summoning.

During combat, he uses all of the Berserker class abilities, as well as several unique abilities:

Quick Strike
A basic melee attack that does minor physical damage.
Blood Craze
Hiath slashes at you twice, doing moderate physical damage over time to the player. This attack also heals the enemy over time.
Agony
Hiath stuns the player for a short time. Taking damage from any source will break the stun, but the player may choose to break free from it instead. After the stun ends, this spell also does moderate magical damage over time to the player. This spell can be interrupted to set the enemy off balance. Blocking will prevent the stun.
Roll Dodge
Hiath can perform a roll dodge to avoid incoming damage.
Assassinate
Hiath strikes at the player's back for moderate physical damage. This attack can only be performed if the enemy is behind the player, and Assassins will often leap to get behind the player. Ensure your character is facing the enemy at all times to prevent this.
Rapid Strikes
Hiath casts Rapid Strikes, hitting a player multiple times and dealing multiple instances of physical damage.
Throw Dagger
Hiath backs away from the player and throws a dagger at the player. This attack causes snare and bleeding if it connects. This attack can be interrupted to set the enemy off balance. The dagger can be blocked to prevent the snare and bleed and reduce the damage done.
Steel Tornado
Hiath spins around, doing moderate physical damage to all players as indicated by a red circle. Blocking will reduce the damage taken.
Siphon Life
Hiath pulls life energy from a target, dealing Magic damage.
Power Extraction
Hiath casts a Power Extraction-like ability, dealing damage around him and increasing his damage done.
Shadow Strike
Hiath briefly becomes invisible (like a nightblade) before reappearing sharpening his swords together (like an assassin). From here, the following attack depends on your positioning. If you are close to him, he quickly hits you with one of his swords, dealing high physical damage and knocking you down. This can be blocked. If farther away, he performs a teleport strike that tracks your location instead, dealing high physical damage. This attack cannot be blocked.
Marked for Death
Hiath casts a ball of fire at you. Upon making contact, it disolves into flames beneath you that track your movement for a duration, dealing high continuous flame damage that cannot be avoided. When the effect ends, a ground area of flame is spawned under the targets and in Veteran Mode, a Summoned Flames spawn.
Invisibility
Hiath briefly becomes invisible, before reappearing close to you. This attack occurs more often when standing further away from him.
Purifying Light
Hiath casts a Purifying Light-like ability to a player, making you store damage taken that reapply after a few seconds. You can Break Free to purge yourself from this effect.
Searing Light
Shadow Knight casts Searing Light on itself, making nearby players have 50% chance to miss their attacks, which are dealt damage and put Off Balance if they miss.
Solar Disturbance
Hiath channels the spell for a short duration before casting a Solar Disturbance-like skill from the sky at your location, dealing very high magical damage, followed by high continuous magical damage and reducing targets damage done. This can be interrupted.
Crystal blast
Hiath casts a Crystal Shard-like ability which deals magic damage and stuns you. You can interrupt the casting.
Ember Explosion
Hiath causes a Flame damage explosion in a area.
Backstabber
Hiath the Battlemaster has a passive ability that causes him to deal 20% more damage when attacking the target's back.

Veteran Mode Exclusive[edit]

Even Ground/Empowered Pull
Hiath pulls in a very large area all players to him, stunning them and dealing a fixed percentage damage to their health (around 90%/95%). After a small delay, an other area of effect deals low damage.

Dialogue[edit]

He can be found in the Gladiator's Assembly:

"I'm not sure you're worthy to compete in this arena. You have a certain air of ... futility ... about you."
What is this place?
"I see you make a habit of walking blindly into strange and dangerous places. That must make your life very interesting.
But where are my manners? Welcome to the Dragonstar Arena! Only the strongest of the strong try their hands at our games."
How does the Arena work?
"It works perfectly. Thanks for asking.
Oh, but you want details. You talk to the Gatemaster up the hall to begin. Then you do your best to turn your enemy into a bloody mess before he does the same to you. That's my favorite part."
How do I win?
"Quite simply, you survive. And your opponent doesn't. Of course, if that happens, my master will take an interest and want to see more.
You stand on the brink of a remarkable journey. Are you really willing to take the first step?"
What do you mean by "journey" and "first step?"
"Talk to the Gatekeeper. Survive, and see for yourself.
Only those who prove themselves worthy can learn the secrets of the Arena."
What happens if I'm defeated?
"Hopefully your allies aren't as bad at the games as you and they can help you get back into the fight.
If all of you fall? Well, we call that 'death.' We toss your corpses out back for the guar. Hungry little buggers, you know."
Anyone competing that I should be aware of?
"The Fighters Guild team does a wonderful job of not losing. Must be all the practice they get with the fighting and everything.
Their champion has been holding his own so far in the competition. I expect good things from him and his team."
Champion?
"Each participating team has a champion. Sometimes more than one. First, you must overcome the initial waves of combat. If you make it far enough, you'll get to face the champions.
And I hesitate to mention any of our other little surprises."
Surprises?
"Really? You have to ask? If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?
I'm done with this conversation. Talk to the Gatekeeper and enter the Arena. The sooner you get killed, the sooner I can forget all about this meaningless exchange."

Combat Commentary[edit]

Dragonstar Arena[edit]

When you first start the arena round:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "We have new challengers! Will they survive the competition, or will blood decorate the floor of our grand Arena?"
"Ready or not, the battle is about to begin! For those of you who bet gold on the newcomers, you have my sympathy."
"Let loose the combatants! This is the Dragonstar Arena, and the games have begun!"

<The first Fighters Guild opponents will enter.>

"And now, a round of applause for those proud undead destroyers—the Fighters Guild! Can the newcomers stand against them? I can't wait to find out, can you?"
Hiath in the arena

The Frozen Ring[edit]

After continuing to the next arena stage:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "You dare go on? This pleases my master. Let's hope you continue to please her and she grants you the strength to survive the coming battles."
"Prepare your weapons. Ready your spells. Oh, and you may want to put on something warm. It's about to get cold in here."
"Do try not to soil anything during this battle."

<The first opponents enter the arena>

"To advance, you must defeat the champions of this arena—Nords from the coldest region of Skyrim! They love the thrill of battle, the conquest of their enemies, and the taste of mead! But not necessarily in that order."

If you start freezing:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "Some people would try to find a little heat when the weather turns so chilly. But perhaps freezing to death is part of a strategy I'm just not familiar with."

When the trolls start appearing during the round:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "The trolls! Always forget about the trolls. How the Nords hooked up with those ferocious creatures is beyond me, but they're always good for a few bites!"

The Grove[edit]

Boethiah: "Prove your worth. Continue to impress me. Then, perhaps, I shall allow you to silence that fool of a champion who loves the sound of his own voice—permanently!"
Hiath the Battlemaster: "I'd be insulted, but I do love the sound of my own voice. Before you can face me, however, more arenas await you. These tiny Wood Elves, for example. They formed the nicest partnership with … what are those things called? Ah, yes. Werewolves!"

When you've defeated all the enemies:

"I don't understand. How can you keep on winning? Why don't you just die? I—argh! Just step through the damn portal!"

The Steamworks[edit]

Beginning of Round 8: The Steamworks:

Boethiah: "Your strength knows no bounds. Rarely have I seen a group that works so well together. The last time must have been, oh, those poor Mages Guild members I found in the Dwemer ruins years ago."
Boethiah: "How sad that they would fall to the traps the Dwemer left behind. Now they are merely thralls who fight alongside the machinations that they once researched."
Boethiah: "Let my old toys face off against what may be my newest champions. Show me your true strength!"
Hiath the Battlemaster: "There's no way this group will get past your defenders, master. But please, let them try. I love a good slaughter!"
Boethiah: "Hiath, these champions appear to be up for the challenge of facing you. Maybe your time has finally come to an end. But there is still another arena to survive before you go up against my champion."

Winning:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "You must think you're really something. Arena after arena, you emerge victorious. But you are nothing. Nothing but lowly insects waiting to be stepped on."

Crypts of the Lost[edit]

Hiath the Battlemaster: "I selected the next combatants personally. Even in death, they crave the blood of their enemies. I confess, at this point I almost hope you win—so I can have the pleasure of tearing you limb from limb!"
Hiath the Battlemaster: "I'll even give you a hint. There's more to this arena than what you see before you. You would do well to remember that."
Hiath the Battlemaster: "Now, see if you can survive this, little insects! Hahaha!"

The Champion's Arena[edit]

Boethiah: "You have done it. You have proven your worth and earned this precious gift. The chance to enter my final arena and face my finest champion."
Boethiah: "You know Hiath, so his presence here should come as no surprise. Defeat him and become my new chosen. Lose, and you will be lost and forgotten in the depths of my realm."
Hiath the Battlemaster: "Oh, this is going to be so much fun."
Hiath the Battlemaster: "I've been waiting for this moment. You think you're good? You'll never be as good as me. Come now. Don't hold back! It's no fun if you don't try."

Summoning in more opponents during the fight:

"Let's even the odds a little, shall we?"
"That's it! Make me fight for it! You haven't even begun to see what I'm capable of."
"You will not defeat me! No one has ever defeated me!"

When defeated:

Hiath the Battlemaster: "You beat me? How could this happen?"
Boethiah: "And so that which could not be broken finally shatters. You shall be my newest champions, for you have earned that right."

Group Defeat[edit]

He will make various mocking comments if the players die:

  • "Amazing. You truly have achieved new heights of mediocrity."
  • "Well, that was unfortunate. Let's try this again...and do remember that people are watching."
  • "I hope you're not sticking around for the consolation prizes. No matter what you've heard—there aren't any!"
  • "You stumbled into here by accident, didn't you? I see no other possible explanation for your disastrous performance."
  • "You should replace that so-called warrior you have there. With allies like that, you can't afford to have any enemies!"
  • (?)

Notes[edit]

  • He is voiced by Gideon Emery.
  • His health scales on the number of player in the group. With two players in normal mode, Hiath has ~1,180,000 health.
