Boss Loot[edit]

Question: Is leveled loot for bosses calculated using the character's level or the boss's level?
Answer: The character's level.
Details: To test this I took a level 3 character to Rockmilk Cave, saved outside the cave, then reloaded multiple times and went running through the cave. I killed the Black Bow Ringleaders (level=+4) and checked their loot. What I found from checking 12 ringleaders was:

  • armor: 16 plain fur, 13 enchanted fur, 22 plain leather
  • weapons: 4 plain iron, 4 enchanted iron, 3 plain steel

These items are all consistent with loot at level 3; if the loot was being generated at the ringleader's level (7), there should also have been some enchanted leather or plain chainmail armor, and some plain silver, plain dwarven, enchanted steel, or enchanted silver weapons.

Admittedly, since this was on Xbox I could not confirm that the ringleaders were indeed level 7 (although I can confirm that they had significantly more health than the standard bandits). Just in case the bosses were only 1 level ahead of my character, I redid the tests with a level 2 character. In this case, searching 8 bosses I found:

  • armor: 36 fur (none enchanted)
  • weapons: 6 iron, 2 steel (none enchanted)

Again, this equipment is all completely consistent with level 2 lists, and markedly different from what would be expected using level 3 or better lists (compare to the previous tests).

So I conclude that for all NPCs their loot is taken from leveled lists based upon your character's level. Bosses do not fundamentally have better quality equipment than regular NPCs, they just have more equipment and a better chance of having enchanted equipment. --Nephele 17:11, 4 October 2006 (EDT)

OK, I was wrong ;). Based upon this article, NPC equipment is based upon the minimum of NPC level and the player level. So any NPC that is significantly weaker than the player will have poorer-than-expected loot. (In my defense, I only tested NPCs that were stronger than the player; in which case the player's level is the deciding factor). --Nephele 02:45, 9 February 2007 (EST)

New List of Bandit Locations[edit]

Just wondering, unless it would be simply too lengthy, if there should be some kind of list of the various dungeons, caves, forts, etc. where Bandits could be found, much like the list that has developed on Necromancy.

I don't see why not--seems like useful information to me. It could probably be done for similar types of enemies as well, such as Conjurers or Marauders, if it hasn't already. --Eshe 00:04, 2 July 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, the plan is to have a page Bandit Dungeons which has a list of all the places where bandits can be found and provides details on the types of chests, etc. that are found in those dungeons. GuildKnight was working on assembling some of those pages, but she's had to take a break for a while so most of the info is lingering in her sandboxes for now. If someone wanted to pursue creating those pages, they could try to make sense of the info that's available. --NepheleTalk 00:15, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

Highwaywoman?[edit]

I charmed a female Khajiit Bandit at Camp Ales and tried talking to her and she said, "Pay up or else" . I paid her 100 gold but she still attacked me after the charm spell wore off. All highwaymen are males so it's surprising that there really was a voice over. --Sundaroct131088 06:39, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

Are you sure it wasn't a Highwayman? I find it hard sometimes to tell the difference between male and female Khajiits and Argonians, particularly if they're wearing armor. Even their voices are similar. Failing that, there's the possibility it might come from a mod? --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:21, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
Actually, the construction set confirms Sundaroct131088's observation. There are three greetings identified as being part of the "quest" GenericKhajiit: "Your money or your life," "This is a hold up. Hand it over or die," and "Pay up, or else". The three dialogue options have been recorded for both Khajiit males and females. Any Khajiit NPC who is a member of the Bandit faction or the Marauder faction will randomly choose one of these three greetings as long as the global variable HighwaymanGotMoney is set to 0. The greetings are followed by the standard three highwayman options for paying gold.
Normally you wouldn't be greeted by a bandit (or a marauder for that matter) so you wouldn't get this dialogue, but charming a bandit to the point where they will talk to you would make it come up. When highwaymen are initialized, their aggression is set to 0, which is why they'll start by talking to you (their aggression is reset to 50 if you refuse to pay up, triggering the fight). --NepheleTalk 12:08, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

Three Black Bow Ringleaders?[edit]

Rockmilk Cave's page says there are only 2 Boss-level Bandits there but here it says there are 3 of them. --Sundaroct131088 18:50, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

Well spotted. I've corrected this page - there are only two. --RpehTalk 00:10, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Friendly Bandits[edit]

I have around 200,000 bounty 250 infamy and all bandits and marauders speak to me. And vampires too. What gives? — Unsigned comment by 207.199.196.90 (talk)

It's your infamy. A high infamy makes people with low responsibility like you more. See Oblivion:Disposition for more information. --Gaebrial 05:29, 2 January 2008 (EST)

Task[edit]

I am currently undergoing a task on the task-list that requires me to make all the Marauder pages, Necromancer pages ect. alike the Bandit page. I would just like to ask a few things. Why doesn't the bandit page have Photo's, ID's and Sexes included? Should I delete some photo's from the marauder page so that it just shows one or two? Should I replace the marauder page with the same table as the bandit page? If anybody could elaborate on the task I have to do, that would be great. --Matthewest TCE 19:07, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Since the page is linked from the Generic NPC article, which is in turn linked from the Console Tutorial's "placeAtMe" section, I think that adding the IDs would be most important.--81.102.136.40 14:33, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

An allergy[edit]

My computer seems to have an allergy of Bandits, whenever I make contact with them, in combat, my computer shuts down and reboots. This happens when I go into Bandit Dungeons and some camps. usually it is with more than one bandit or a Dunmer Archer, Don't know why?!, Can anyone help, also, I have tryed to download a patch but when I got half way with the download, it cancelled, something to do with textures. I also crash loads if I play for an hour or a half. Can anyone help? Hoborobo 14:30, 10 February 2009 (EST)

It sounds like a graphics issue. You should make sure that you have a video card that will support the game fully, and if so make sure that your card has up to date drivers. Unschooled 05:45, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Small house in wilderness[edit]

Is this question in the right place? I found what appeared to be a cabin like building; a small house in the wilderness. Unlike other cabins of its kind (Ronald Jenseric's for example) it had no symbol on the map. I went inside and found a male and female redguard (both of which were bandits) and a dog, which were all hostile. The chests seemed to be unspectacular house-loot like clothes and 3 gold, and items like calippers. I cannot remember the exact location, but i'm running around trying to find it. Anyone know why it had no map symbol or apparent significance? — Unsigned comment by 86.163.173.188 (talk)

Sounds like you found the Isolated House between Bravil and Skingrad. --Gaebrial 10:16, 15 April 2009 (EDT)
Thanks, I think youre right.

Clean Up[edit]

I'll be adding this to my task list to clean up. If you feel anything should be added, just hit me up here ^_^ --Mr. Oblivion 16:20, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

Unusual Bandit[edit]

When I was in Doomed Mine, I ran into a Khajiit Bandit whose Disposition towards me was 60. When I spoke to him, he would have his standard dialogue options; he would sometimes demand money from me, though when I refused, I could easily yield to him, and his Disposition did not decrease. Eventually, I attacked him, where he would refuse to yield. I'm not sure what caused this strange event: a Bandit's Aggression is 100, and this one's seemed to be somewhere in the range of 30-65. 68.32.250.200 20:33, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

Friendly Bandits?[edit]

I went to a cave with bandits and decided to test out a spell I made, +100 disposition ofr 2 seconds, in this time I yielded to the bandit and they acted like a normal civilian. After it wore off, my new disposition with them was 50, strange since I have 60 fame and no infamy, I was than attacked by a different bandit and the bandit with now 85 maxed disposition started helping fight with me, what gives? 69.243.188.235 21:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Grey Cowl and highwaymen[edit]

When i was wearing the Grey Cowl, i came acrose a highwaymen. But instead of fighting he said the line "As I live and breath, its the Grey Fox" or somthing like that. I was wondering if this was a random act or are highwaymen loyal to the grey fox?

Georgeguy 22:19, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

It's probably the case that the default dialogue for Highwaymen (the demand for gold) has a lower priority than the greeting specific to the Gray Fox, so the game selects that one instead. --Timenn-<talk> 17:01, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
I think it's the same thing that happens if you wear the Gray Cowl with Boethia's chosen; they will also say "As I live and breath, the Gray Fox" and won't attack, see this page to know what exactly happens.--S'drassa 20:19, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Bandits, Charms and Bribes[edit]

I finally got a bandit to surrender today, Heres what I did. I made alot of charm spells of different magnitude, and charmed her up to 95, and bribed her up to 100. I did that over and over untill she finally surrendered. This took me 15 minutes. Are there any tips to make this process more efficient and faster? It would be cool to be friend with bandits, marauders, vampires, ect. but I dont want to spend so much time on each person.--Arch-Mage Matt 20:28, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

hmm, one person use 15 minute? I only use 2 minute on a person. Moreover, i use 96,92,88 ect.How can you charm a person so slow? (Vvardfell 10:34, 16 November 2010 (UTC))

Separating Page Into Sections[edit]

I am planning on adding section headings. How should I divide the sections (Like where to separate and what to call each section)? Bryanmichael11 19:20, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

One suggestion is the following:
introduction text
Varieties
Normal varieties
description of normal varieties
Other
description of specialized varieties

Bandit Hedge Wizard Spells

Enchanted[edit]

Anybody know what the likelyhood of a bandit having a enchanted item is? (I am writing an Oblivion role-play). If it is in percentage, that would be great. --Zefiewings 22:11, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, what level are you at? They use a Leveled list, so that is important. 184.77.194.254 05:28, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Bandit dispostion[edit]

So let me get this straight if your infamy/speechcraft/personality is high enough Bandits are friendly and you are then technically a bandit? Someone please reply — Unsigned comment by 207.69.139.144 (talk) on 12 August 2010

No. Nothing on the article says you are "technically" a bandit. If they like you, Highwaymen will not attack you. That's all. rpeh •TCE 13:09, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

I dont think thats entirely true.. you arent technically a bandit but highwaymen AND bandits AND maruders wont attack ANd they help you fight. If your attentive enough you can lead bandits on raids on towns and stuff :D (command humanoid)

before and after respawn[edit]

If i use charm and bribe to make a bandit become my friend.3 day later , the cell reset, the same type of andit do not appear. 3 more day later, the same type of bandit reappear ,will he or she be friendly to me?

I ask this because ,i have try to make all bandit in a ayleid ruins become my friend.3 day later ,most of them have been replaced ,but one of the bandit i used charm before is still there and he is friendly to me and the money i use to bribe is still there(Vvardfell 10:31, 16 November 2010 (UTC))

Ringleaders Respawn?[edit]

Just wondering if ringleaders do respawn or not.

Enemy/Friendly Bandits[edit]

Just for everyone's verification, Bandits (probably of most varieties) will become friendly at a certain bounty. It has nothing to do with your fame/infamy. For example, my old character had about 50 fame, and 300+ infamy, and finally about a 250000 gold bounty on my head. Every single Bandit I came across had a 100% disposition with me. By paying my fines to S'krivva (spelling may be wrong) they once again were hostile. I don't have Oblivion on PC so I can't get the Construction Set, but I think the script for it will be something like N disposition added for every X amount of bounty in gold. This would make a lot more sense that the bounty on your head would make them friendly, because Bandits and pillagers are fugitives to begin with. This is on the xbox, and I know for a fact that this happens in every game, because it has worked on every save of mine, even after deleting every single save, uninstalling and reinstalling the game (for a fresh start). I hope that someone will be able to post this, because it is definitely the case, and I have seen it disputed many times on this page alone. Quick recap: The bounty on your head is the factor that increases a Bandit's bounty, not your fame/infamy. I don't think the personality attribute affects it either. AcE x EPiiCzZ (talk) 00:54, 13 November 2012 (GMT)

Personality and fame/infamy effect everyone, including bandits. The more likely explanation is that they liked you due to your personality, equipment, fame, and infamy. While I know there may still be surprises left to find, this is such a big one we'd had surely found it by now. I gave myself a bounty larger than that through the console, and I was still attacked by hostile NPCs like bandits. As this was on a character with no fame/infamy and default personality and equipment, I think my result is likely. It may be a quark unique to your game as Oblivion is just weird like that (especially the Xbox version. Like once I had to save every three cells I passed through or it would crash on my Xbox), but you may simply be overlooking your own character's stats that do alter disposition, and attributing it to other things. There could be plenty of other reasons for them to like you, you cast a spell and forgot, drank a potion, worn something differently, it's impossible for me to tell why. But quite simply, considering how much we've gone over this game, I find it hard for us to have missed something that major at this point. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:11, 13 November 2012 (GMT)
Well, I'll keep on experimenting, since then I've deleted EVERYTHING and started again, with my characters getting things like comments from Imperial Soldiers talking about my success in the mages guild (when I hadn't even cast a single spell in that game), but as I've said, it's worked on every single save game, but as said I will carry on testing and get back here at some point. :) AcE x EPiiCzZ (talk) 18:09, 13 November 2012 (GMT)

BaseID (and for unique bandits, RefID)?[edit]

Bandits seem to be the only class of NPCs where there seems to be no ID's on UESP (or, for that matter, anywhere obvious). Is there any reason why this is the case? I was curious about the Bandit Carriers from the Orrery DLC and was annoyed that no one seemed to have ID's for them.

Thanks!
