[This book has an extensive log detailing shipments of contraband going to several other smuggler lairs and to nearby towns. The amount of goods moved by them is quite impressive. The most recent notes are important, as they reveal how the arrival of slavers has affected the Argonians of Black Marsh]
Yeshani
433. Twelfth of Sun's Dawn.
Sent a large convoy to Blood Clot:
-Thirty five pelts
-Sixteen weapons (five axes, two daggers, one claymore--glass, great purchase--six maulers, two warhammers)
-Five sets of armor (mithril, blood-leather and rather worn orcish)
-Eight staves (two luminous, two enchanted, six defensive)
-Ten diamonds, sixteen emeralds, twenty amethysts and twenty opals. Usual contact specified half that number. Eidkee will need the other half. We will retain the rest for North's shipment.
-Two boxes of magical apparel and ingredients. Rare find of very high-quality material here, as well as rare plants. Owner was a mage of some category that found death at Fort Redman. I have instructed the scouts to keep vigilance over this old stronghold. The rest have been warned--I suspect this was not a mere chance run against one of the many deadly creatures of the marsh. The killing was too methodical for a beast.
-Two bundles of books. Who would have expected such a price for them. The advantage of civilization is that it breeds both the causes and the remedies for its own vices. Tidy arrangement for those that can learn to play the sides and feed off their production, for all punishment is another form of creation. Forbidden books, good lecture they were. Too bad Eidkee shall not have the desire to do what befits them.
-Three crates of candles and lanterns. Delightful designs on these. Sent another box to Kizra by way of special courier. Mayhap she will understand the irony of the gift, the woman needs a gentler light to guide her hand, now. Eidkee can burn so bright as to blind them. Before we notice, the numbers in the marsh will have grown larger thanks to Eidkee's charm than from our kin's return.
That is the last entry for this shipment. I expect a great return on this one, well over 30,000. Those goods will keep Eidkee busy for some time. Perhaps enough to give us a moment of respite. That son of the jungle is defiant like a jaguar against a trunk. He wants to lash back even though safety lies a moment's effort behind him. A little more fury and we will have the legion swimming in the marshes before long. Still, I cannot deny that the influx of our brethren into our ranks does not depend solely on Vvandenfell's war. He has done much to incite the kin to rejoin with sights on a glorious future.
433. Fourth of Rain's Hand.
Eidkee is going berserk on us and Kizra is toeing the line. The recent arrival of slave traders has sparked fury among our groups. They are not willing to see them return, after so much suffering and disgrace, to their old practices. The war in Vvardenfell has left deep scars, and some conspire to put the slavers' power back into common currency. Despite the ban on slavery here in Cyrodiil, we inhabit a too distant area from its power centres to expect their arms of the law to extend this far. The legion will not present an obstacle to these slavers. Specially considering how bleak the future looks.
We will struggle on our own. I do not wish to see our blood mix with these waters, but it is more fitting here than over the streets of Sadrith Mora. Eidkee has already dispatched attack groups against roaming slavers. Soon he will grow confident enough to risk their lives against one of the large encampments. The slavers have already taken our brothers and sisters. If Eidkee wants to continue leading us then he cannot tolerate that.
433. Twenty-sixth of Mid Year.
Delivery of goods has resumed, albeit at greater peril of its loss. The confrontation with the slavers ceased enough for us to re-organize our contraband routes. They disappeared for some time--probably retreating before another onslaught. It appears that their numbers were thinner than we anticipated, or they would not have abandoned the camps in order to rejoin forces up north. This is both a blessing and a curse. I fear that Eidkee will too soon regain confidence and act without regard for the tribes. Although, I must admit, Kizra has learned quite well how to tame his spirit. I suppose that the beauty of life is that it can keep surprising you, even an old geezer like me.
Sent Kizra over twenty weapons. She needs to restock after so much fighting. At this rate we would have used all our supplies in our own war, rather than in fuelling Cyrodiil's power-struggles. The Dunmer will not underestimate us twice, no doubt.
Included several crates of supplies for her shamans. I expect that the eboron, and other heavy armours, that we recovered from the fallen slavers will compensate for our losses here. If word is correct, something brews near Leyawin, and the Fighters Guild continues to be an excellent customer for us. If they only knew exactly from where their apparels come from.
433. Eleventh of Last Seed.
We managed to get an important shipment of magical armor to Bravil--17,550 septims worth. The slavers could not find our parties this time. After their return we have been at odds more fiercely than before, as expected. Yet, trade is picking up quickly. Everything we scavenge from them gets sent out. On top of that, the recent hostilities between Raiders and Bandits are resupplying our stocks of weaponry and armor. Much the same as it is happening between Necromancers and their former comrades in the Mages Guild.
Three large crates of halberds, claymores, war axes, hammers and even some scythes sent towards Cheydinhal. Our raider contact is eager to transfer them to the Gold Coast, as we have found. The old bear is planning something even larger than the squabbles with the bandit gangs--he is much too careful to rush in such a way for supplies. Perhaps he is also noticing the storm clouds over the horizon? Old dog, what will the world do without us, when the time comes?
Clothing chests, magical jewellery, gems, alchemy tools and staves sent to Bravil, again. Mysterious delivery this one. Bravil's Mages Guild is not strong, or large enough, to make use of this fine set of equipment. My suspicion falls on rogue elements of the guild or associated with the Putrid Hand. More than likely the latter--our scouts have reported heightened activity near Wendelbek. Crafty Valeth. Knowing full well that he is in our midst, cloaking his presence from the attention of Traven, he redirects the shipments elsewhere before gathering them back so close to their source.
Clever man, but he should know that we are everywhere, and that our support means his continued cover. Perhaps he can be pushed to help against the slavers, although I would not count on it. Considering their latest offensive, we have enough trouble. I rather not seek it elsewhere, for the time being.
The attack on Seran was successful. Kizra is lying low until the waters calm down. We freed several brothers and sisters, disrupting the Dunmer's operations for now. It will not be long until they capture more of us and prepare another convoy to cross the mountain passes into Vvardenfell.
I have spoken at length with Eidkee. He is much more attentive and careful now, once his initial rage was replaced by caution. I think he understood my advice. We need help against the slavers, and they will eventually drown themselves against our defences. Although perhaps not ready yet to ask directly for help from strangers, he is becoming more interested in using our contacts to force outside parties into Black Marsh. Provided we shield our presence and hide our tracks, adventurers and militias from nearby towns will be of much use to us. Kizra can easily take care of this task. He has learned to trust in her, and that gives me great advantage.
433. Twenty-seventh of Last Seed.
Cyrodiil has just burst open like a ripe fruit. The news is spreading fast. Uriel and his sons have been murdered. There is a power vacuum in the region, and that can only spell more trouble for us, even with the spoils of the coming struggle to fill that void.
Kizra had gotten word out to nearby towns, and even through her contacts in the legion, about the slavers' campaign. The trap was set, and now it springs on us. We cannot count any longer in them to play their part--they will not spread themselves that thin given the current state of affairs.
To make matters worse, the Dunmer intensified their fighting against us. Several raids on our lairs have taken a heavy toll. Kizra is safe for now, although they must have found out about her role in Seran's attack, or perhaps in alerting the legion, because all too often they attack Red Gill.
Eidkee is worried. His remaining doubts cast aside due to these events, he is now fully convinced that we should accept the aid of outsiders, as long as they prove their worth and intentions to us with deeds. Out of Cyrodiil's turmoil will raise waves of scavengers and looters, but also those that seek glory and fame. We must use these adventurers to our own ends. They must not discover too much about us and about our operations, but they will be rewarded and welcome among us once they have aided our cause. We can offer what no other can--adventurer or not, they are bound to see the benefit in an association with us.
Slavery is not popular in this province. It would not be surprising if someone were to free our captured kin, or even deal a deadly blow to the slaver's plans by slaying their commanders and minions. We will see, but at least Eidkee has finally accepted this possibility and issued orders to not kill on sight strangers until we have found which side they favour [sic].
