Walkthrough[edit]
You'll get this quest from a rumor you hear around Kathar. If you inquire further, you'll find that Etelso Malev has a wonderful red lantern that he got from the local brothel. The problem is, his wife Salacia hates it and wants it gone.
Enter the player. Salacia wants to hire you to buy or steal the lantern from Etelso. If you try to buy it, he'll let it go for 500 gold; if you want to steal it, you'll have to wait until husband and wife are together so that no one suspects her of the theft. If you acquire it through theft, Salacia will want you to take it out into the desert and bury it where no one will ever find it; after that, she'll give you a treasure map. If you bargained with Etelso instead, she'll be so happy that she gives you two potions on top of the map.

Etelso probably got the lantern from a courtesan at a bachelor party. He seems to want to keep it as a kind of memory of a past life, which is probably also the reason why Salacia would like it to go. However, Etelso is anything but reasonable. I should have a talk with Salacia. |

I want to get the lantern from Etelso through my bargaining skill. If that doesn't work, I can still steal it. However, I must then make sure that Salacia is near her husband, lest he suspects the theft. or
I agreed with Salacia Malev to steal her husband's lantern, if she gives me in return an old map containing the location of a treasure. But I have to be sure to steal the lantern when Salacia is close to her husband, so he doesn't suspect that she's behind the theft. |

- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage ODDKatharLanternQuest stage
, where stage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
