The Tundra Plateau is a geological formation that makes up the westernmost area of Whiterun Hold, in the province of Skyrim. It is a series of hills that hold much of the land of the Western Plains.[1] It encompasses the entire border with the Reach to the west and south, making up the area found beyond the slopes of the Sundered Hills, as well as a steep drop into the River Hjaal to the north, and finally, the Skyborn Range to the northwest. Fort Sungard is built atop the Plateau, found at the tri-hold area between The Reach, Whiterun, and Falkreath Hold.
It is largely uninhabited, only small encampments and isolated ruins are found across the region, atop peaks such as Bleakwind Bluff, Serpent's Bluff, and Talking Stone Camp. The ruins in the area, both underground and at overland vantage points, are often inhabited by Reachmen. Red Eagle Redoubt is perched on the precipice of the Tundra Plateau.[1]:516 The dragon Nahagliiv was buried at a mount atop the Plateau. Rorikstead is found along the eastern slopes of the Plateau, and Broken Tower Redoubt is found along the northern cliffs, wedged between the Plateau and Chilblain Peak to the north.
