Stral Blackthroat was a Reachman,[1] and one of the leaders of the Rageclaw Claw during the Three Banners War in 2E 582. He led the Reachfolk alliance army during the assault of the Rift, and partook in battles of Fallowstone Hall against the Companions,[2][3] and in the Vernim Woods.[4][5]
History[edit]
Little is known of Stral's past. Despite the matriarchal nature of the Rageclaws,[6] he managed to become an influential leading member of the clan.[2][7] He wasn't ruling alone; two other individuals from the Rageclaw Clan claimed the title of chieftain simultaneously: Lydi Snowpelt,[8][9] and Frostfang.[2][7] They governed together, but the nature of their relationship remained unknown.[9][7][2]
In 2E 582, the leadership of the clan decided that the Rageclaws would enter the alliance with two other Reachfolk clans: the Boneshapers and the Stonetalons. Leaders of the clans signed the treaty on the 3rd of the Frost Fall in 2E 582.[10] Soon the alliance aligned with the branch of the Cult of the Black Worm led by Thallik Wormfather, who promised power and blessings of Molag Bal.[11][12][13] and invaded the Rift in 2E 582. Although both Lydi,[14] and Frostfang were part of the invasion force,[3][7][2] it was Stral who was the leader of both the Rageclaw clan invasion force and all the forces of the Reachfolk alliance.[2]
During the invasion, the Rageclaw led by Chieftain Frostfang and Stral assaulted the Fallowstone Hall to steal Wuuthrad in the hopes of reviving the half-giant chieftain, Sinmur and his army. The recruits of the Companions that stayed to protect the hall and its sage, Tirora, were killed. Most survivors fled to the shrines while the Reachmen sealed themselves in the inner vault,[2] and placed a ward on the vault.[3]
Harbinger Vigrod Wraithbane and the King's Arrow led the fight to retake Fallowstone Hall, first by rallying any survivors. When the Companions discovered the ward, the King's Arrow made contact with Tirora's spirit, who dispelled the barrier. Chieftain Frostfang fought against the King's Arrow, but was ultimately killed. Despite that, Stral and the Reachfolk alliance managed to secure the legendary Wuuthrad.[3] He also ordered his forces to take over Northwind Mine to establish a hagraven coven there.[15][16]
The Worm Cult promised to magically empower the three clans with Molag Bal's magic in exchange for their attack on Shor's Stone and Fallowstone Hall to the east. Stral Blackthroat, leading his elite warriors, along with the Worm cultists, performed the ritual, extending the magic's reach to the Reachmen across Vernim Woods.[16][17] In the end, the alliance of Reachmen was defeated, and Stral was slain in the Vermin Woods by the forces of the Ebonheart Pact.[4][5][18][19] Lydi also met her demise.[14][20] The future of the Rageclaws is unknown, but their invasion of the Rift was thwarted.[4][21][22]
