Fang Lair

The Dragon's Tooth (or simply Tooth)[1] is a mythical ebony dagger with a hilt made from a dragon's tooth, hence the name. The hilt is intricately carved with intertwining roses, thorns, and leaves,[2] in line with the black rose symbology tied with Morrowind and the Ra'athim Clan of Ebonheart. It is also described as having a "wicked point" and a sharp edge you can even shave with.[1] The tooth came from the dragon who roosted in Fang Lair. In the historical-fiction series, King Edward, they were known as Akatosh, the Lord of the Dragons[2] but based on historical information, they were known as Thurvokun.[3][4] It is mainly associated with the two legendary heroes, Kings Moraelyn and Edward, who took in the dragon as one of their companions.[2]

History[edit]

A long time ago, a scrawny mage entered Fang Lair to steal some of the dragon's treasure trove but was caught. After exchanging harsh words, the mage put a curse on himself before the dragon devoured him. When the dragon bit down on him, the mage's sword was lodged in his mouth and caused a great load of pain. The sword became known as a legendary magic blade called the Dragon's Blade. It was a dark metal sword with an enchantment that healed the wielder after every strike. Many adventurers had since tried to take it from the dragon. The first person to do so caused a toothache that bothered the dragon for years.[2]

After a night of gambling in a Nordic tavern, the three adventurers: Moraelyn, Mith, and Mats were given a map through the Dragon's Teeth Mountains to Fang Lair. The three found the dragon sleeping over his hoard, with the Dragon's Blade lodged in its mouth. Moraelyn was able to befriend the dragon and help get his aching tooth removed. While Moraelyn took the sword, Mats took the dragon's old tooth, carved it into the hilt that formed Dragon's Tooth, and also gave that to Moraelyn.[2]

After Edward spent his tenure in the Crystal Tower, Moraelyn passed him the Dragon's Tooth, along with a snakeskin belt just like his from the companions. The two were sparring soon after until Edward sliced Moraelyn's hand. After successfully recovering, the two were attacked by a couple of rats in an old inn. Edward killed one with the Dragon's Tooth while Moraelyn killed the rest with Edward's mithril staff.[1]
