how do you go on this quest for the bow 13:13, 1 Oct 2009 (EDT)— Unsigned comment by ArgonianBoy (talkcontribs) at 12:13 on 1 October 2009

You come across Auriel's bow by doing The Artifact or Nocturnal's Quest. Read the quest pages for more information. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 09:05, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Hircine Shield[edit]

The Daggerfall Chronicles calls the artifact the "Hircine Shield", rather than "Hircine's Ring", as does the in-game description. Has the more modern lore of Bloodmoon seeped into the Daggerfall article, or is it truly called a ring in the game? I'm doubtful, so I've changed the name. The redirect has been fixed as well, although I haven't touched any other articles until someone with the game can verify or disprove the name change. --Legoless 16:59, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

I've some time left to pay a visit here again, I've not the time to look into everything that has been done to DF during the past months, but this matter should be corrected. The artifact is a RING, it occupies a RING slot on your character, regardless what the DF-Chronicles or something else says. When I had overworked the page I've even noted that it looks like buckler, but it's a ring nonetheless. The people at Bethesda even said in the README.TXT on the CD (free-release probably also) that the manual and the Chronicles were printed BEFORE the game was released. Therefore one should not put too much faith into anything that is written there when on the other hand people who actually played the game wrote something different.--PLRDLF 13:16, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I hadn't doubted it occupied the ring slot. It's just the name I'm concerned about. --Legoless 13:22, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Just looking through the game files finds some contradictory info.
  • In TEXT.RSC there's the line "There are, of course, disadvantages. The bearer of the Hircine Shield can choose when to be a lycanthrope and when not."
  • In MAGIC.DEF there's a list of items, one of which is "The Hircine Ring", alongside other daedric arfitacts like "The Wabbajack" and "Oghma Infinium".
  • FALL.EXE contains "Hircine Shield" alongside other daedric artifacts like "Wabbajack" and "Oghma Infinium".
  • Although not really a game file, PATCHED.TXT contains the line "Hircine's Ring now only works for people infected with lycanthropy."
In other words, it looks like it's named one thing in two places, and another thing in two others.
Whatever decision is made in the end, the important thing is the site links. Don't just change the Linkable Entry text - use the exname param to have both names in there so current links don't break. rpeh •TCE 13:48, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
My theory is that it was originally intended to be a shield but was later changed to a ring and so should be named a ring. Reasons for this include:
  • the obvious re-colouring of the buckler shield graphic;
  • that the texture is actually the same size as the shield texture which is much bigger than the other jewelry type artifacts; and
  • if you hack magic.def to change Hircine's Ring to item type to shield it will equip in the correct position for a shield.
I think probably the developers realised that some player characters would be unable to equip the shield due to class disadvantages. Note that the other artifacts that would suffer the same problem were established in Arena. For the same reasons, I think the Masque of Clavicus Vile may have been intended to be a helmet but changed to a ring. -- DelphiSnakeT+C 11:45, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Quest for sanguine rose?[edit]

So I was wandering around castle daggerfall and got this quest from one of the nobles to go to some dungeon and meet a messenger of the necromancers. Of course I accepted it, and went into the dungeon. Found a zombie, killed it, got a letter to go to another dungeon and meet the king of worms. I did this and he told me to slay a lich for him and he'd reveal the location of the sanguine rose, which was in a mage's guild sitting on the floor. This quest doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, can someone do some digging and confirm the existence of this quest? I'm currently using the third-party install with all unnoficial additions, but Im not sure I was when I did this quest. -24.9.105.245 22:13, 3 February 2013 (GMT)

Is this the quest you're looking for? —Legoless (talk) 22:19, 3 February 2013 (GMT)
No, that doesn't reward the sanguine rose. I guess it was just something added by a mod. 24.9.105.245 01:58, 9 February 2013 (GMT)
