v1.06[edit]
v1.06 has been ready to upload for the last few years, but I've only uploaded now because the additions were very minor. To those few who are still actually using this spreadsheet, have fun crafting your ultimate spells. Ong elvin (talk) 02:56, 20 January 2014 (GMT)
v1.05[edit]
After a year of inactivity, I'm finally doing some working on the spreadsheet. v1.05 should be out this weekend. I've increased the spell effects limit to 20 (see Swk3000's comments in the v1.04 section. A summary for custom weapon enchantments has also just been implemented, although the gold cost hasn't been implemented because I don't know how Oblivion calculates it. The spreadsheet now highlights the school-defining effect. Also, a few changes geared towards making this spreadsheet mod-friendly. For vanilla Oblivion, the spreadsheet is more or less as complete as it could possibly be. I'm just making a few final checks and tweaks at this point. The only meaningful additions after that would be to include more features to support mods that change base costs. Mods that change the magicka cost formula entirely are, of course, beyond the spreadsheet's capabilities. Since I play Oblivion on the X360 though, I don't have access to these mods. :/ But if people want to help with that shortcoming, just send an e-mail my way. :) Ong elvin 11:31, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- Slight delay. FileFront says there's no spare upload servers. I don't want to use another site yet though, because FileFront lets me track the downloads completed. I like to check on it from time to time. I'll be checking over the next week, but if there's no spare room by next Thursday, I'll upload v1.05 somewhere else, download counter or not. For the two people out there who are looking forward to it, it's got some pretty good updates. Ong elvin 09:44, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

- Edit: Never mind. Forgot to check your User Page; I only checked this Discussion Page. Sorry.Swk3000 11:39, 5 April 2009 (EDT)
- Haha, the Spell Making page just directs to the User page. I thought of that all those months ago to do it this way. That way, I only have to update the User page, and optionally the Talk page. :P Thanks for the heads up though. :) Ong elvin 20:42, 5 April 2009 (EDT)
- Ohhh... you mean the Spell Making talk page. Dammit. Must've forgotten to get that one too. xD Ong elvin 20:46, 5 April 2009 (EDT)

- Been trying to access your spreadsheet, but the link just sends me to the filefront main page. Search doesn't come up with anything either. Some help please with your work. Harlequin 11:53, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
- I've uploaded to MegaUpload since FileFront is screwed up for whatever reason. Link is updated and all. Ong elvin 13:27, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hey sorry to bother you, but i was wondering if you could make some edits to the Spreed Sheet. It would be nice to have the Magnitude and Duration up to 999999. It would be good if you could make this possible. Thanks Wyeth — Unsigned comment by 78.48.199.81 (talk) at 15:03 on 8 April 2011 (UTC)

- Hi, nice work (really much better than my shabby sheet^^) but, I think you have forgotten to include the influence of luck on the calculation of mana consumption. Greetings, J.C. — Unsigned comment by 78.48.199.81 (talk) at 15:03 on 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I have caught this and it will be there in the next release. In the meantime, add 40% of your Luck score to the relevant School. Honestly though, don't expect an update in a hurry. All the major needs are met (and then some). The Skill levels on the spreadsheet are irrelevant in the long run as the spell costs will all eventually taper to the Master cost. Unless you're using a mod, I guess. Ong elvin 14:27, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Along with the Luck update, is there any chance of seeing this on Google Documents? I would LOVE that and I'm sure I'm not the only one... FromCrimsonToWool (talk) 05:01, 28 January 2013 (GMT)
v1.04[edit]
Great Work! It works every time. Maybe if you could make the magicka regeneration tab a bit simpler, but apart from that, :-)! Matt360 432 16:58, 17 February 2009 (EST)

- Thanks for the suggestion. It's good to get finally get some feedback after a whole year. :) What is it about the MPregen tab that looks complex? I think the only reason it probably looks complex is because it's a whopping large table of numbers, and no tutorial; but then again, I'm the creator, so I know how to use it already. From the sounds of it, you did at least manage to figure out what it is for. Was it too hard to figure out how to use it? In case you haven't, the MPregen tab is for people who want to get the highest magicka regeneration possible from a specified number of enchantment slots. 60.241.169.85 00:29, 18 February 2009 (EST)
I downloaded your spreadsheet, and I absolutely love it. I'd say it's incredibly useful, but it's even beyond that. However, I've run into a bit of a problem. I frequent a message board, and another user there posted a spell he uses. Another user asked some details relating to what level you have to be to cast the spell, and what it costs. Now, I'd love to plug the spell into your spreadsheet and give him those answers, but I have a bit of a problem: There aren't enough slots. Your spreadsheet has 8 slots that I can use to put in spell effects, but the spell in question has 12 effects. How would I go about adding the extra columns to the spreadsheet so I could figure this out? The only way I know of (Insert->Rows) doesn't work, and gives me an error about protected cells.Swk3000 05:21, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
-
- Ah, is that a problem? I didn't think anyone could have a reason to need more than 8 spell effects. (On a related note, Morrowind spells were capped at 8 effects, and that had more effects that you'd put in the same spell.) The main reason I protected/locked the spreadsheet was to make sure the acknowledgment in the Data page directs back to UESP. Even if it weren't protected, the inserted rows wouldn't work anyway - you'd have to code their function in. I'll add some more rows then, since there's plenty of space anyway. I'll see if I can get it up by the weekend. In the meantime, you can use the current version to find out the spell stats for spells with more than 8 effects. Ong elvin 06:08, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- What you should do is enter 8 spell effects first, and note the base/magicka cost. Then enter the last 4 effects, and add the base/magicka cost to the previous figure. That gives you the total base/magicka cost. Divide base cost by 5 for the Master cost. Look up the total base cost against the LOOKUP table in the Data page to find the mastery required. (Top-right; if total base is >400 then it's a Master spell.) Finally, to figure out the school, look for the highest base cost of all the spell effects you entered. Ong elvin 06:08, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- As a point of interest, could you link me to the forum and thread you are talking about? I would like to see this 12-effect spell. Ong elvin 06:22, 1 April 2009 (EDT)
- The site is at http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/26839/t1317696-armor-suggestions/2.htm. It's the fifth post down, by a guy by the name of Coognut. He's a major Power-Gamer, and loves using spells that require tons of Magicka. Anyway, the spell he has there isn't the most powerful spell he has, but it does have the most effects. If you want to see his most powerful spell, go to http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/26839/t1294058-101-things-to-after-completing-oblivion/14.htm and look at the fourth post down. Just watch out for the guy's ego. He's a pompous asshole with an over-inflated sense of his own importance, and I'm not a big fan of his. I won't deny he's got some useful information, but the way he presents it just rubs me (and several other people) entirely the wrong way.Swk3000 17:17, 1 April 2009 (EDT)

- Hmm... how interesting. The Sheogorath killing spell (second link) falls within the spreadsheet's margin of error. I haven't implemented proper rounding into the spreadsheet, because the margin doesn't go that high, and because Spell Making doesn't explain how the rounding is handled. (Margin is ±0.75mp per effect added.) For the Wizard Bolt spell, spreadsheet returns a Master cost of 419; even with the margin of error, it shouldn't be as low as the 396mp reported. Probably the Weakness to Poison effect isn't supposed to be there - taking it out puts the 396 within the margin of error. Ong elvin 01:15, 2 April 2009 (EDT)

- Regarding spell rounding, I believe you'll find the in-depth answer over at the CS Wiki (search for Spell Cost.) The short answer is that the unscaled effect costs and scaled effect costs are all rounded down individually and then added together to achieve the final unscaled cost and scaled cost, respectively. Basically, the "Base Cost" and "Magicka" columns of the 1.05 version should all be rounded down and then summed. Great spreadsheet. Thanks for the effort. 24.211.155.217 07:46, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]
Hello Ong elvin! I've just noticed that I didn't officially welcome you to the wiki. I hope you've enjoyed using the site and have found the information on it useful. You've already made several edits but if you decide you want to help improve any of the other pages, please feel free. You might want to look at our Getting Started page for some extra tips and play in our Sandbox to practice. If you need any help or advice, please ask one of our mentors. Enjoy! —Rpeh•T•C•E• 05:31, 1 January 2008 (EST)
- Thanks for the (late) welcome. :P Well, since this is just the same as Wikipedia for the most part, I think I should also be fine for the most part. Only thing I'd really love right now is an in-depth explanation of Morrowind spell casting, how magicka cost, chance, duration, magnitude, and area all interact. Like what's available at Oblivion:Spell_Making. I want to make a spreadsheet for Morrowind. ^_^ Ong elvin 09:36, 1 January 2008 (EST)
