Images[edit]

Hi, thanks for helping out by filling in the page at Help:Images. However, the image files you've been uploading are all .bmp format, which is not a good format for webpages. Most browsers do not support bmps, and will not integrate them into html pages. The only way to see the images you just uploaded is to pull them up on empty pages, which is somewhat useless on the wiki. It would be much more useful if you could provide images in jpg, png, or gif format which are the standard formats used on web pages. Compare for example your image on Image:Uesp1.bmp, which just shows up on empty box on three different browers I just tested, to Image:OB-Map-LostBoyCaverns05.jpg, where the image is shown on the page.
Furthermore, the Help:Images page should focus first on the standard uses of images using Image tags, not Media tags, which really aren't for images per se, but more general file types. --Nephele 13:23, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

--Konnajb 13:27, 21 September 2006 (EDT) Yes i know this all makes me sound quite new which i'm not lol but i have just added that in to start off i am changing all links to better suit the reading of this page after i have finished the text on the rest of this page. I do know how to do it if you look at my user page--Konnajb 13:27, 21 September 2006 (EDT) it is just a thing for now so i didnt forget to add in images. Thanks for telling me anyway but i know what im doing. :-D

Well, if that's how you find it easiest to create a page, sure. But at the moment you are posting information that is incorrect when applied to Image tags, so it seems like it would be alot easier for everyone if you just stuck to Image tags from the start. (In particular, it is posssible to include both a pixel size and a thumb tag, without in causing any errors). In the meantime, I'm going to propose deletion for your bmp images, because I really don't think having bmps around helps anyone. --Nephele 13:40, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

I have done it please go ahead and change it if you want but i just wanted to clear up that i usually never use the media: or bnp/ogg types it was an unfortunate thing as my pc wos goin odd n me normal programs wernt loading. Anyway it's done now thanks anyway--Konnajb 15:54, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

Namespaces[edit]

When you create new pages, could you please be sure to create them in the proper namespace. Basically, every page you create should be prefixed by the name of the associated game, i.e. "Tribunal:The Winged Guar" instead of just "The Winged Guar". See UESPWiki:Namespaces for more information on our namespace policy. Let me know if you have any questions. --Nephele 17:38, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

Tribunal:Services[edit]

Hello. I've noticed that you've been working on the page Tribunal:Services. I've also noticed that none of the listed sections on that page are actual services. What is your intention for that page? --Aristeo 18:38, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

i aint got a clue its a weird place to have a services page as it is such a smallplace and not even bloodmoon has one but i just mainly wanted to list the shops and main places there until someone more experienced than me comealong obviously and edits all of it. Does any1 know were i can get a tribunal map from java prefered???

Huh? --Aristeo 01:47, 2 October 2006 (EDT)

Tamriel Creatures[edit]

Thanks for trying to add to the tamriel section, but we have Bestiary pages set up to list all of the creatures. Therefore it would be more appropriate to add your entries there. Also, remember that the Tamriel section is not game specific, and therefore should not contain any game-related details (i.e., selling golden saint souls for 80000 septims; what spell to use to trap atronachs; at what level you will encounter scamps). If you would like to add these details to the game sections again, remember that there are already pages setup to talk about all the various creatures. It would be far more useful to add to those entries than to set up new pages that contain only one sentence. --Nephele 13:04, 29 September 2006 (EDT)

Edit Summaries[edit]

Good day, I am writing to request that you kindly fill out the edit summary box after making a change to UESP articles. It helps tremendously when consulting the recent changes directory to have a method of quickly glimpsing what you have done to each page. Thank you. -- Booyah boy 09:40, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

KONNAJB: I would just like to know what i should put in the dit summary i have noticed it many a time when editing before but havnt given it much thought i am just about to start doing a table on the tribunal armouries section i just started what exactly do i write in the edit summary?
Response: Did you read over the edit summary page I linked above? Here. It should give you a general idea, that being, basically give a quick rundown/synopsis of what you did. There is no need to go into exhaustive detail (although, were you to correct the grammar on a page, writing "fixed grammar issue" would be better than "cleanup"), merely state the changes you made.
For instance, with the table you propose to make, something like "Creation of table listing armourers" would be fine. The recent change you made to the Tribunal page might have said: Corrected spelling. "Informatio" to "Information". Again, it's simply there to give your fellow editors the ability to review the changes you made, without having to pull up the page itself. Thank you. -- Booyah boy 10:21, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

ok thanks --Konnajb 10:22, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Don't mention it. If you use the Recent Changes directory you can review the edits others make and garner a fair idea of what is acceptable in edit summaries. You'll note your list of blank edits, which prompted me to write this; as you can now see, it's a mystery to others what you did on those pages (although we can see which are major, minor, and new), forcing us to review the diff page; all of which is prevented by a edit summary inclusion. Best of luck... -- Booyah boy

Wanted Pages[edit]

Thanks for your efforts to try to fix wanted pages/red links. However, it would be very useful if you could keep in mind that is easily possible for the fix to be fixing the link, rather than creating a new page. For example, when you noticed the link to Tamriel:Great House Telvanni, instead of immediately creating the page, look and see if the page actually already exists, in this case at Tamriel:House Telvanni. Since there's already a page, it is redundant and waste of effort to create a duplicate page; it is far more appropriate to change the original link to make use of the correct page.

In other words, before just creating a new page, look and see if the information already exists on the site -- the chances are that it does. If it is already there, change the link instead of making an unneeded page. --Nephele 15:54, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Good work on the Tamriel:Tribunal Temple page; that's exactly what was I talking about. A few things to try if you're finding an article:
 • If the original link says Tamriel: or NAMESPACE: , see if there is a game-specific pages on the topic, e.g. change it to Morrowind: or whatever seems appropriate. Not all topics need a Tamriel page, and there are a fair number of pages out there that have red links to pages that probably should not exist under Tamriel.
 • Check the appropriate section under Tamriel.
 • Try using the search function at the left hand side of the page. Unfortunately, it's not a great search engine, but it should generally be able to tell you if there is a page with a similar name.
There's no need to do an exhaustive search; if you can't quickly find something then perhaps that means another page is needed to help other readers find the same information. But just taking a couple minutes to check some of the more likely places is worthwhile if that means you can then quickly fix the link and make it point to a comprehensive page on the subject. --Nephele 13:32, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Creating Articles[edit]

Hello! I've noticed that you've done quite a bit of contributing on the wiki. I thank you for taking the time to help us out, but I've had a couple of concerns.

First of all, I've noticed that you repeat the title of a page in the articles that you create. Above every article is an automatic page title, and the insertion of one-tier headings on the beginning of articles is highly redundant.

Secondly, I would like to point out that many of your new articles have little to no content on them. Although creating articles needed by the community is very helpful, you should only create them if you know enough about the article's subject to create a semi-decent paragraph. You can mark an article as a stub after this point, but articles with zero information or patent nonsense will be deleted.

If you need anything, you can check out our help files or contact one of the mentors for assistance. --Aristeo 00:52, 2 October 2006 (EDT)
