Question[edit]
Hi - new to editing this wiki, so not sure where to ask this more generally... Added a daily quest from Necrom called Knowledge is Power (WB, for Runemaster Xiomara), but it's linked to a Imperial City quest with the same name. How do I differentiate them, and how to get the relevant quest ID? Many thanks, Gegensmith (talk) 08:37, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi! A similar issue occurred recently with Online:City Under Siege. We need to do something similar here, i.e. move the existing quest to Online:Knowledge is Power (Imperial City) and then set up the new page at Online:Knowledge is Power (Necrom) so that a disambig can be created. When you try to add the link, you can then include (Necrom) in the quest link template and it will be differentiated. I'll go ahead and make the move/disambig if you want to look at creating a page for the new quest. —Legoless (talk) 09:28, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Cheeses of Tamriel[edit]
Hello! Regarding your recent edits on the book Cheeses of Tamriel, both in lore space and online, here are a few reminders (as well as helpful links):
- Avoid Game-Specific Information: Gameplay details should be avoided in Lore articles.
- If there is additional information that needs to be added to the book page, the
lorenote
ortextnote
parameters of Lore Book should be used. - New information added to the wiki should not repeat or be redundant with other information already on the site.
Your contributions are welcome but, if you can, please take the time to check whether or not the content you are adding is already in the wiki. Oftentimes, information that seem non-obvious or difficult to find turn out to be already available, uniformly formatted and in a standardized place, like an infobox. - Thank you for your message. Please restore the image to Cheeses of Tamriel online version. That information is not already available and was added in the first place because finding it was an endeavour for an add on and it was very difficult to find. The delve is dark and the map proved insufficient to locate it. Gegensmith (talk) 17:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- The same goes for the See Also in the lore space. If the wiki's information is difficult to find, it has failed in its purpose. Gegensmith (talk) 17:45, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
-
- In the Lore namespace, the pages for books generally contain solely the text for books. Images are added only if the book itself has images, for example Lore:The Firmament. The information about the book's appearance in other games is included in the infobox, which is a standard for all book pages, not just Cheeses of Tamriel. As this has been adequate for a lot of users looking for a lot of books, I believe the difficulty you're experiencing in finding this information does not constitute the wiki having "failed in its purpose".
-
- In the game namespaces, the pages for books contain information that pertains to all copies of that book. Thus, information that deals with only a specific instance in a specific location does not belong on the book's page either. However, I do understand that you experienced some skill issue in locating the book and you believe other players may also have the same struggle, in which case might I suggest you add a note (and the image) in ON:Sheogorath's Tongue instead? Wood Elves and the Green Pact[edit]
So, Wood Elves and the Green Pact isn't actually the book name, it's just the label of the book. The options are The Truth About the Green Pact, The Awful Truth About the Green Pact, and maybe Visions of the Green Pact Bosmer, The Green Pact and the Dominion, Green Pact Bosmer: Observations. Of these, which one is the actual book in the delve? Jeancey (talk) 20:59, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- I've just checked my screenshots and I'm not sure you're right about that. Wood Elves and the Green Pact is, indeed, the label that appears when you hover over it. Inside is the song "Green Pact Song". In which case, Wood Elves and the Green Pact is the title of the book and "Green Pact Song" is a lyric that appears within. Either way, though, there shouldn't be two listed on the delve page. Gegensmith (talk) 21:21, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, then I was correct before. The way ESO works, the book name is separate from the label. Almost always they match, but sometimes the label differs. In this case, the label is "Wood Elves and the Green Pact" and the name of the book is "Green Pact Song". That's the name that'll be found in the Eidetic Memories, and is the name of the book page for the wiki. I'll fix up a redirect for it and everything. Thanks! Jeancey (talk) 21:25, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok... but that creates an obvious problem. For someone looking at the delve page, how are they going to recognise the book when they go looking for it, if it appears ingame under a different title? Gegensmith (talk) 21:45, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- There's a note on the book page, and a redirect from that name TO the book page. So if they are looking for the book and search for it, they'll see the note, right at the top, that it has a different label. That's the process for the wiki, and is in place across a multitude of pages. Because the book appears in the collection as Green Pact Song, that's the primary name people are going to be looking for (likely to try and complete the collection). Jeancey (talk) 21:51, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, I see. I may add a picture of the book with the label highlighted to the delve page for those searching there. Many thanks. Gegensmith (talk) 15:06, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
