Blocked[edit]

Stop hand.svg

This IP address has been blocked from editing UESPWiki for repeatedly vandalizing the site, despite being warned to stop. This is the latest dynamic IP assigned to the editor who previously edited using IPs 124.176.238.228 and 124.181.225.244. This account has been blocked as an extension of the block already applied to the other accounts (see 124.176.238.228). If you wish to appeal the block, you may make your request on your talk page, which you can still edit even while being blocked. —NepheleTalk 21:53, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Warning[edit]

Stop hand.svg Despite unofficial advice and warnings you have continued to make edits with no relevance to UESP, each of which nevertheless needs to be checked by our Patrollers After many days and dozens of edits this now clearly falls under the category of causing to disruption to the site and so our Blocking Policy becomes relevant. This is now an official warning: Please desist from making disruptive edits to our site. If you continue your current behavior you will be blocked from editing UESP. —–RpehTCE 17:35, 11 March 2008 (EDT)

One Week Block[edit]

Stop hand.svg

This account has been blocked from editing UESPWiki for one week. This editor has repeatedly disrespected the community's requests and disrupted the community with countless nonsense edits, despite numerous requests to stop the disruptions. If you wish to appeal the block, you may make your request on your talk page, which you can still edit even while being blocked (however, see comments below first). —NepheleTalk 16:47, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Additional Information

Given that this is a somewhat unusual block, and also to limit this editor's potential for continued disruptions by questioning this block, some additional details on why this block was necessary would seem to be appropriate.

Reason for Block
Many clear requests have previously been made asking this editor to focus on productive contributions to the site, and explaining that UESPWiki is not a personal website dedicated to editor user pages. Dagoth Ur's constant stream of nonsense edits to his user page clogs up the recent changes page and increases the workload of the site's patrollers, because all edits made to the site need to be patrolled.
Neverthelesss, this editor has continued to make hundreds of unnecessary edits to his user page, in an apparent attempt to mock the previous requests. Most of his edits recently have been particularly pointless, consisting of nothing but adding and deleting line breaks to his user page. He has refused to even show enough consideration to use the show preview feature when making these edits, repeatedly making six or more unnecessary edits to his user page in a row. And he then has the audacity to waste our time asking why one of his nonsense subpages has been proposed for deletion. Everyone in the community is sick of dealing with this constant nuisance.
Editing UESPWiki is a priviledge granted to editors for the sole purpose of allowing editors to help improve the site. There is no reason to allow continued edits from editors who do not wish to help improve UESPWiki articles, particularly when those editors' contributions are disrupting the site. All other attempts to communicate with this editor have failed, leaving us with no option but to block the account.
Editing User Pages
I want to be completely clear for any other editors who read this. In most cases, editors are encouraged to edit their user pages and use their user pages as places to post information about themselves and experiment with wiki editing. And in most cases, editors are encouraged to create personal user sandboxes and subpages for additional editing experience. In this case, however, there are two fundamental differences from the "usual" scenario:
  • This editor started by vandalizing the site, including personal threats against members of the site. Nevertheless when the original blocks expired, this editor was allowed to edit to give him a chance to prove his claim that he would "help it instead of harm it". He has instead chosen to make hundreds of nonsense edits to his user page, despite effectively being on probation the entire time.
  • There is no longer any reason to believe that this editor has an interest in contributing productively to the site. Most editors with hundreds of edits to their user pages also have thousands of edits elsewhere on the site. Even with new editors who have only edited their user pages, it is assumed that those editors will start editing elsewhere once they are more comfortable with the wiki. Dagoth Ur obviously knows wiki syntax and has clearly been told to start making productive contributions, yet he insists on making pointless edits to his user page.
In other words, the problem here is not fundamentally the edits to his user page, but the context in which all of these edits were made. Any legitimate editor would have heeded some of the previous requests and warnings; the refusal to cooperate with those requests shows an inherent lack of respect for the wiki and the community.
Productive Contributions
Dagoth Ur's rare attempts to make productive contributions to this site have not been enough. One productive edit for every twenty nonsense edits is not a legitimate effort, especially after the editor himself promised to help the site. All that these rare edits have shown me is that Dagoth Ur does have the ability and knowledge to improve UESP articles, if he chose. Therefore, his lack of productive contributions must reflect a personal decision on his part to not help the site. His two or three insignificant contributions come across as a pitiful attempt to buy himself some more time rather than as any real effort at reform.
Appealing the Block
In theory, blocked editors are free to edit their user talk page even while blocked, in order to allow those editors a chance to appeal the block. However, let me anticipate the only possible questions that Dagoth Ur could have:
  • This block will expire in exactly one week. Making an appeal to lift the block will take at least a week, and therefore will do nothing to accelerate the block's expiration.
  • Any appeal would have to be based on a clear demonstration that you are interested in helping the site with productive contributions. However, your past promises and actions have proved that any promise you might make to help the site is meaningless. So I don't see any way that you could make a legitimate appeal.
  • Once the block expires in one week you will be given another chance to prove that you have a legitimate interest in improving UESPWiki. If you want to prove that this block was inappropriate, the single best way to do that is to demonstrate that you can be a productive contributor once the block expires. Any continued nonsense will only prove that this block was the appropriate action.
Given these responses, and given all of the other information already provided to Dagoth Ur on this talk page, I don't see any reason why Dagoth Ur should need to make posts while blocked. Personally, I do not plan to answer any questions posted on this talk page, and furthermore I strongly encourage all other editors to ignore any posts made to this talk page. Furthermore, repeated nonsense edits or pointless questions on this talk page will be grounds for:
  • Extending the block.
  • Protecting this user talk page to prevent Dagoth Ur from making any edits anywhere.
In other words, don't waste our time with more nonsense here, because we do not want to deal with it.
Future Blocks
If Dagoth Ur wants to have any hope of regaining his editor privileges after this block expires, he will need to do all of the following:
  • Refrain from making any nonsense edits to his talk page while the block is in place.
  • Refrain from attempts to circumvent the block, for example by creating sockpuppet accounts or editing UESPWiki using other IP addresses.
  • Refrain from making any nonsense edits to his user page, talk page, or any user subpages after the block has expired.
  • Prove that he is committed to making productive contributions, by ensuring that the majority of his edits are clearly productive edits to gamespace articles. Edits made to talk pages will not be considered productive edits; edits made outside of the game-related namespaces (e.g., user pages, help pages, UESPWiki pages, etc.) will not be considered productive edits; nonsense edits or otherwise unhelpful edits to game articles will not be considered productive edits.
In other words, we're just asking that Dagoth Ur do what every other editor on the site does (and every other editor has figured this out without being explicitly told that it's what expected). These restrictions on Dagoth Ur's account will remain in place until an administrator explicitly states otherwise. Violating these restrictions will be grounds for immediately blocking this account, without any need for a warning or additional explanation.

Blocked, Third Time[edit]

Stop hand.svg

This user has been blocked from editing UESPWiki for repeatedly harassing other editors and disrupting the site. It is completely unacceptable to threaten other editors with blocks over their choices about how to write their own fanfiction. And your petty demands are nothing but a waste of everyone's time. Given the number of warnings you've been given, this behaviour is unacceptable and none of us should have to put up with it any more. —NepheleTalk 22:23, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

Morrowind:Shara Move[edit]

Please explain why you moved Morrowind:Shara, to Morrowind;Shara (place). There is no other article that deserves the name Morrowind:Shara so a disambiguation page or a redirect in unecessary. Do not move a page without citing a good reason to do so. Also, do not revert another editor's move to return your page without reason. You will start yet another edit was if you continue. --HMSVictoryTalk 07:09, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

An open apology[edit]

Nephele and Puddle, I am sorry.

Nephele[edit]

  • For the "vandalism".

Puddle[edit]

  • For the trolling nonsense on your talk page.

Let's all be friends. Also, you can join me on the Morrowind Redesign Project. Puddle, I can help you on the Patriots fanfic. Dagoth Ur, Mad God T C E 02:32, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

Blocked[edit]

Stop hand.svg

This user has been blocked indefinitely from editing UESPWiki for making disruptive edits despite multiple warnings. Furthermore his activities on other TES-related sites (TESCS Wiki, ES Wiki) make him unsuitable as an editor on UESP. Every possible opportunity has been granted to this user to reform his behavior but the latest extra-site activity has meant that this cannot be continued any longer. Should Dagoth Ur, Mad God wish to contest this block, the Blocking Policy describes the necessary process. –RpehTCE 16:01, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Request[edit]

I will no longer be here for the foreseeable future. Please delete my userspace. Dagoth Ur, Mad God 20:38, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

As tempting as that sounds, I don't think we can. The record of warnings, blocks, and other official messages on your user talk page needs to be kept to document what has happened and why. Even your user page is effectively part of the historical record at this point; deleting it would remove the page's history and would therefore make it harder for other editors to review what's happened. A large number of your nonsense/test pages have already been deleted (including the dozen-odd sandboxes that you created at one point), which means that we have already deleted a substantial fraction of the edits that prompted your blocks. Unfortunately, what's left needs to be kept in place. --NepheleTalk 21:42, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Second request[edit]

I want to contribute to the Morrowind Redesign Project, but under another name. Dagoth Ur, Mad God 20:37, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Appeal[edit]

I need the ability to edit this wiki because:

  • I want to contribute to the Morrowind Redesign Project.
  • I have to create pages for the Beram Journal Entries found in the Tel Vos jail and dungeon.

Dagoth Ur, Mad God 03:38, 18 May 2008 (EDT) I am not a vandal. I am a Morrowind Redesign Project contributor.

You say you're not a vandal 1/2 an hour after doing this? As far as I'm concerned, one of the main reasons I don't want you editing is your random behaviour. Yesterday you say "I will no longer be here for the foreseeable future"; today it's "I need the ability to edit this wiki" and then back to your old vandal ways. Please stop bothering us. –RpehTCE 06:49, 18 May 2008 (EDT)

::I will clear up my act. Just unblock me. Dagoth Ur, Mad God 04:02, 4 June 2008 (EDT)I just want to contribute constructively to this wiki.Dagoth Ur, Mad God 01:32, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Appeal 2[edit]

Rpeh, please read this. I was a regular contributor on this wiki, but I made a few vandalism. I am very sorry. I was blocked for "disruptive edits", but normally, I was very active. I created some new Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon articles when I joined the Morrowind Redesign Project. I want to contribute constructively to the UESP. Please unblock me. Dagoth Ur, Mad God 07:32, 15 September 2008 (EDT) P.S. I'm so sorry for vandalising your site.

I have started the appeal process by opening a debate on the Administrator Noticeboard. –RpehTCE 08:43, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
(the following comments were originally posted at User talk:124.176.178.206 but have been moved here as they relate to the appeal)

I am the operater of the Dagoth Ur, Mad God account. I didn't mean to vandalise, and promise never to do it again. Heard me, Rpeh? --Dagoth Ur, Mad God02:11, 16 September 2008 (EDT)

P.S. I didn't mean to vandalise the Elder Scrolls wikis. My block on Oblivion Mod Wiki will expire on the 29th of September. On TESCS Wiki, I was given a second chance. DragoonWraith said Gstaff (the admin) did not know how to use SPECIAL:BLOCKIP. See here.

I promise not to do:

  • threats
  • falsities or obscenities
  • blanking
  • frivolous requests
  • timewasting talk posts

You will not see anything like this from Dagoth Ur, Mad God again. On Wikipedia, I am a productive contributor. — Unsigned comment by 124.176.178.206 (talk) on 16 September 2008

It doesn't look like your appeal is going to be successful.
You might think this shows total negativity. You might think this shows the appeals process doesn't work. I'm taking the time to explain why this isn't the case, and why there could yet be redemption. I'm going to try to give you some ideas as to what you might do to succeed in a block in the future:
  1. Stop trying to post anonymously: The admins can now pretty much spot a DUMG IP on sight. It doesn't matter if you're trying to improve an article (example) - the fact is that you are blocked. You should accept that. Trying to circumvent the block causes work for other people.
  1. Stop all vandalism elsewhere: You don't seem to have vandalised anything recently so keep it up. Our editors watch other wikis and will not start to trust you if you are seen vandalising them.
  1. Be Useful: You claim to be productive on Wikipedia but none of the people who have commented on your appeal agree. You need to learn that being productive is making edits that other people might find useful. Your contributions have been largely of the "fix" variety - something that you don't have to do yourself.
I could go on but I don't intend to turn this into a help page. We already have those. My point is that you abused our trust for a long time, and have a long way to go to regain it. In the meantime, I imagine I will be posting an official "Appeal Failed" notice in a couple of days. I hope after this you realise that it's nothing personal or, necessarily, permanent. –RpehTCE 14:24, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm afraid your appeal has failed. The blocking policy states "repeated appeals made by the same account will be ignored unless the new appeal provides substantial new information, such as concrete examples of proposed contributions to the wiki". That means that if you appeal again you will have to point to examples elsewhere indicating that you have become productive, as well as telling us what you plan to do on this site. Given the current weight of opinion I would advise you not to try to make another appeal for at least six months, as it is certain to be rejected. –RpehTCE 10:57, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Unblock[edit]

Hi there. I'm here on DUMG's behalf for another appeal. I've been friends with Dagoth for a while now, since I met him on another wiki. He's obviously went a full 180. He's been helpful, productive, and overall a great user. He hasn't been blocked once since what happened here. Now, I understand that his edits on this account have been a good enough reason not to trust him, so I'll use the Homestar Runner Wiki as an example of his productiveness. You'll see that all of his edits here have been nothing but productive. He hasn't vandalized a page even once. I can assure you that he'll be just as constructive to this site, if not more. JCM 17:52, 8 February 2009 (EST)

JCM, you're probably going to take this as 'UESP Admins are evil and hate people after they've clearly reformed', so sorry in advance. I assure you that we don't hate people after they've clearly reformed, and I can say that not all of us are evil. As for DUMG's appeal, I think that we're going to continue to deny it. I have two reasons for this. In the second appeal, rpeh asked DUMG to wait another six months before attempting a third appeal, that has not happened yet. Secondly, I just don't see enough action from the edit log on the Homestar runner wiki. There are less than 40 mainspace edits recorded to that account, which in my view just isn't enough to justify lifting the ban. In an effort to check other resources, I also checked the Wikipedia account linked to in the previous appeal and found that it had less than 50 mainspace edits since DUMG was banned from the UESP. These just aren't enough of a history for me to justify sending this forward to the Community Portal. That being said, I think there is enough information here to justify a bit of a deal. If he waits until the end of the six months and makes an additional 60 edits to the Homestar Runner wiki or 100 to Wikipedia, I will approve the appeal and move it on into the Community Portal.--Ratwar 01:16, 9 February 2009 (EST)
And at this point DUMG has dug his own grave, yet again, with new vandalism under the name Oblivionut4evernever. CheckUser confirms the IP address is from DUMG's ISP -- not to mention the similarity with past DUMG vandalism (in particular, his page-renaming vandalism on TESCSWiki comes to mind). Also, as part of that investigation I noticed edits made by 124.190.136.105, which is also from DUMG's ISP and was used for typical DUMG-style edits, just days after Ratwar's last response to this unblock request. Therefore it is clear that DUMG has no interest in reforming or in helping UESP in any way, and confirms that this entire unblock request was yet another time-wasting farce. There's no chance any appeal from DUMG is going to get the approval of the community six months from now, so please don't even consider asking again during the next six months. --NepheleTalk 01:30, 15 March 2009 (EDT)

Delete something from his userpage?[edit]

Can I delete that 'You have new messages' from Dagoth Ur, Mad God userpage. I know that's not common, but it is quite annoying. Wolok gro-Barok 15:38, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

User pages should be left alone unless there is a pressing reason to edit them. If you find his page annoying, you should stop visiting it. –RpehTCE 17:16, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
Okay. It's just that I constantly think I have new messages. Wolok gro-Barok 03:34, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
