Eva was a member of the Ayleid race and was a respected citizen of the city Lindai in the First Era. She was also Vergil Sparda's mother. Eva had an astoundingly long life which stretched from the First Era to around eight years previous to the Oblivion Crisis in the Third Era. When the downfall of the Ayleids was approaching, Eva and left Lindai and joined the Alessian slave rebellion of 1E 242. Eva's intentions were unclear to the Alessian leadership. They were sceptical whether she had truly had woke up to the injustice of slavery or that she merely abandoned her people for her own survival. Regardless, she was cautiously welcomed due to being incredibly talented in Restoration magic, saving many lives during the uprising against her own people. Throughout the entirety of the Second Era (and much of the Third) Eva travelled across Tamriel, to the homeland of the Altmer: Summerset Isle, the depths of Black Marsh, Skyrim and Valenwood. Occasionally, she would settle down for a decade or two in provinces she would find appealing, such as when she spent twenty years living in Helgen. Eva returned to Cyrodiil towards the end of the second era, where she lived in Cheydinhal. She settled there until roughly thirty years prior to the Oblivion Crisis.

Vergil's father Sparda was a Dremora Valkynaz who was loyal to Mehrunes Dagon. Sparda was a master of the illusion school of magic, and had developed the ability to change his appearance at will. He was also highly skilled at speech-craft, hand-to-hand combat, destruction magic, blade combat and enchanting. Sparda's signature weapon was a longsword which bore his own name. He was keenly aware that he stood out amongst his Kyn and his authority was rarely challenged. Dagon often utilised Sparda's abilities to manipulate and coerce the people of Tamriel. Though, extensive time in Tamriel made Sparda more sympathetic to mortals over time. He was responsible for numerous atrocities carried out in the name of Dagon, but gradually became disaffected with the tasks he was assigned to. The tipping point for Sparda was when he was made to deceiveMankar Camoran into believing the Nine Divines were traitors to Lorkhan, claiming instead the deity was a Daedric Prince whose plane of Oblivion was Dawn's Beauty: Tamriel. Sparda foresaw Camoran's potential for destruction after he was armed with this dangerous lie. abandoning Dagon's rule to live in Tamriel permanently. Dagon, furious that one of his highest ranking and most valuable generals had betrayed him, trapped Sparda's power within his eponymous blade, which now took a dormant form as a unique steel claymore called Force Edge.

Though Sparda was locked off from the vast majority of his strength when he abandoned Dagon's plane of Oblivion, he was still incredibly talented in all of the schools of magic. Over time he learned to siphon the rest of his trapped magicka from Oblivion, co condensing it into weaponry he had forged. Though he was still largely cut off from most of his abilities, he was able to create two powerful weapons which he named Rebellion, a unique steel claymore and Yamato, a unique steel katana. Sparda travelled Tamriel for hundreds of years, retaining his mastery of illusion magic to hide his true appearance - his preferred form was to appear as a Dunmer, as their skin tone was closest to a Dremora so less magicka was needed. He immersed himself in the history of Nirn and attempted to repent for the atrocities he had committed serving under Mehrunes Dagon. Eventually he found himself in the city of Cheydinal in the Third Era. Eva was the first person he spotted and instantly fell in love with her. Sparda befriended Eva gradually as he was hopelessly nervous in her company for weeks, eventually he offered to buy her a drink at the Cheydinhal Bridge Inn. The very same night Sparda told Eva how he felt about her and revealed his Daedric form to her. Shocked but relieved somewhat, she told him of her troubled and unique past too. Finding they had more in common than they had realised, their love blossomed overnight.

Cataclysm

Five years later, Sparda and Eva were living back in Helgen. Eva wanted to get away from city life to somewhere more secluded and calmer and remembered her time living in Helgen prior fondly. They were both happily married and expecting children soon after moving to the town. Nine months later, Eva gave birth to twins which the couple named Vergil and Dante. Dante and Vergil were inseparable and both grew to be strong, capable and intelligent adults. By the time they were 18 they had jobs, Dante served drinks and cooked in the local inn, being alchemist and a good chef. Dante resembled his father, born with a darker skin tone than his brother and appearing to be a Dunmer. Vergil was a talented orator and often took work as the town crier. Like his parents he was also a gifted healer and illusionist. Vergil took after his mother, with a lighter complexion and pristine white hair, one could mistake him for a regular high elf. Both of the twins volunteered to go out with the town guard regularly to attack bandit hideouts which threatened the town and were both exceptionally talented swordsmen. Dante wielded Rebellion and Vergil wielded Yamato.

Vergil was close friends with Rimalus Bruiant, who lived in Helgen before moving to Chorrol with his fiancé. Rimalus was a devout worshipper of Stendarr and a member of the town guard. One evening when Vergil and Rimalus were both drinking heavily after fighting off a bandit raid, Vergil blurted out to Rimalus that his father, Sparda, was a disguised Dremora and his mother was an Ayleid. Rimalus, sobered by this revelation, suggested they went home as it was late, Vergil agreed and hugged his friend believing he could trust someone he considered to be a friend.

Late that same night, Eva heard a loud knock on the door. Half-awake she heard it again, but this time it was louder with muffled shouting voices. After waking Sparda Eva made her way to the door, but before she could answer it broke off its hinges. The town guard entered the house and grabbed Eva out screaming. Sparda saw her get dragged out of the house by a guard, then five more burst through the door and attacked him. He attempting to fight them off, but only managed to knock one out before he was pinned to the ground and struck across the head with a club. Outside, Sparda was woken by a bucket of cold water to his face. The town guard, members of the chapel and a few townspeople surrounded the four stacks of wood he and the rest of the family were individually chained to. Tears were streaming down Eva's face and both of the boys were attempting to break free. Sparda demanded to know what was happening, which silenced the rabble of townsfolk. A priest of Stendarr appeared from the circle of guards, denouncing Sparda as a demon, a servant of the Daedra who fathered abominations with an evil Ayleid witch. Vergil immediately stopped trying to break free and looked up at the priest. Sparda demanding to know who made these accusations. The priest pointed at Vergil. Vergil called out Rimalus' name, calling him a traitorous bastard. A guard stepped forward and meekly removed his helmet, revealing Rimalus'.

The guard that was closest to Sparda grabbed his hand and cut his palm. Then, the priest of Stendarr poured a strong potion of dispel into the cut. Sparda's horns became visible and his skin-tone darkened, his true form revealed. The guards moved forward with the lit torches. The oiled wood caught fire instantly, melting the skin on his back. Terror flooded Vergil and Dante's eyes. Eva, still weeping, was next. Her pristine golden hair disappeared into the flames, and her mutilated body went limp after almost five minutes of being burnt alive. At the sight of his parent's grotesque death, something awakened inside Vergil. His blood boiled with anger and his eyes turned red sending out a shockwave which temporarily debilitated the town guard. He broke out of his chains and then disintegrated the lock on Dante's, setting him free too. Whilst the town guard recovered, they ran back to the house. The boys grabbed Rebellion, Yamato and the two amulets their mother presented them for their eighth birthday, Force Edge however was nowhere to be found. They then ran out of the back door as the guard and a mob of townspeople approached the front. Escaping through Helgen's side gate and dodging arrows from sentries, they disappeared into the woods.

The twins ran towards a nearby tower and used it as a place to lay low. The boys were consumed by melancholy and anger, anger for the people they trusted who murdered their parents. Dante demanded Vergil to explain his and Rimalus' involvement in the situation. Vergil burst into tears, he explained that he told Rimalus about Sparda and Eva, thinking he could trust him to remain quiet since they were friends. Dante punched Vergil in the face and bitterly declared his disgust. Letting his guilt take control of him, Vergil did not fight back. Dante absconded with Rebellion that night, abandoning his brother. Dante's whereabouts remain unknown, though it was rumoured he had been arrested after smuggling himself into Morrowind.

Aftermath

Vergil travelled south to Cyrodiil after that horrific night, and had developed serious mental health issues brought on by numerous addictions. He first found the city of Bruma where he would drink himself under the table for days on end. He lost Yamato close Cloud Ruler Temple after being attacked by a marauder raiding party, he was lucky to escape with his life. He moved south to Imperial City where he lived in the [[Oblivion:Sewers|sewers]. He continuing to drink and drug himself into a stupor to forget his past, falling further into madness. He emerged from the sewers one night in search for skooma, when he was spotted by a local priest who promised him skooma if he followed him. The priest, pitying Vergil led him to a nearby wayshrine. Vergil was blessed at this wayshrine, his addictions cured. Sobering up, he found himself remembering the vivid memory of his parents death and subsequent loss of his brother Dante. Vergil incinerated the priest in anger and was later was arrested by a nearby guard. He was sentenced to 30 years in the Imperial prison however, he ended up only serving around eight.
