Summerset Livestream Lore Nugget Bonanza[edit]
The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset Story & Lore Livestream[edit]
- 9:27 - the architecture of Summerset has been refined for thousands of years. They tend to look into the past for inspiration and add new layers of refinement, elegance and detail. The dedicate their long lives to finding something and making it better (basically Alaxon).
- 10:34 - they build their architecture because they believe they were once gods, so they aspire to reach the heavens once more.
- 11:00 - Shimmerine is a mercantile port city. Most of the overseas trade come into summerset here. Mose non-Altmer prior to open borders would have been found here.
- 12:50 - most summerset natives have never met a non-Altmer. Not much for traveling - to them summerset is da best, so why go elsewhere.
- 16:30 - The Schick is actually a High Elf.
- 17:25 - There is a Sapiarch of Food and Wine (lol)
- 19:20 - The Sapiarchs barely acknowledge the Mages Guild in Lilandril. Look down upon them, but are marginally more tolerant of them compared to the Psijic Order.
- 21:50 - The whole insect wing buildings thing in PGE is explained as the viewpoint of outsiders trying to explain what they saw.
- 24:35 - Pretty much everyone in government is older than Aryenn, including the proxy queen (but not much). Ayenn is under 50. Speculated that Aryen appointed the proxy queen due to her not being not that much older than her, as an elder might be competition to the throne (although the rite of succession wouldn't allow that anyway).
- 27:30 - The Divine Prosecution is the secular and religious law enforcement of Summerset. They are beyond the watch of the individual cities. Enforce laws against Daedra worship. The Altmer are the least tolerant of Daedra worship of all the races.
- 29:05 - Some High Elves believe one of the reasons for Aryenn opening the borders is self-serving. The war has drawn away defenses from Summerset that keep the traditional enemies of the island at bay. With no Navy and Army, opening to doors to trade will bring in more gold and also mercenaries who can fill in the gap the Army has left.
- 32:05 - Sunhold is the naval port for the Altmer.
- 34:00 - Pyandonea archipelago is described as "swampy islands".
- 38:30 - Welwas on Summerset date back to the Dawn Era when the elves first arrived.
- 39:15 - Indrik are in tune with the natural elements of Summerset.
- 40:40 - Artaeum was originally off the south coast of Summerset
- 42:39 - The portal in the Dreaming Cave is Portal to Everyplace. If tuned correctly you can travel to anywhere in reality.
- 43:57 - Water is the basis of their Old Ways.
- 46:05 - The Psijic eye symbol represents the Order watching over Tamriel via their scrying pools.
- 46:50 - Some of the 11 forces are in the skill line. (check the lorebook and work it out)
- Change is the most sacred of the Eleven Forces. (The Old Ways)
- Water (Memory?) is the basis of their Old Ways.
- Time?: Step backwards in time, resetting your Health, Magicka, Stamina, and position to what they were 4 seconds ago.
- Performing the Rites of Moawita on the 2nd of Hearth Fire and the Vigyld on the 1st of Second Seed are essential means of empowering salutary spirits and debilitating unclean ones. (The Old Ways)
- Invoke the Rites of Moawita, replacing your Light and Heavy Attacks with healing abilities that can be used on allies.
- 48:05 - The Artaeum ruins are from when there were more active in the world.
- 50:38 - As long as the Crystal Tower stands the Altmer believe they will be protected.
- 52:10 - The reason the House of Reveries wear masks and take on new names is because they seek to disassociate themselves from their strong and imposing family or house features as much as possible, so it does not interfere or discolor their performance. If they are going to enact new roles of people other than themselves they need to be seperate who they are as Altmer.
- 53:50 - Those who fail to achieve Alaxon become socially outcast (Praxic), but the process is cyclical and they are given the possibility to redeem themselves by "making something perfect", which itself is avenue to achieve perfection. Divine prosecution may decide Altmer have "failed". Sapiarchs will judge if an outcast has redeemed themselves.
- 55:00 - Sapiarchs are the arbiters for High Elf culture and what is considered perfection in any field.
The Elder Scrolls Online – Summerfall Event Special Livestream[edit]
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/312931886
- 8:20 - Its called Dusk Keep because the sun sets behind the mountains and covers the keep in shadows. Not revealed who built the tower or why or what is inside. Some sort of magical containment on it. During the 2nd Dominion, a port was built there then it became a city in the 3rd Era.
- 12:00 - Pronounced "Kay-Tarn" Keep. In elvish there are no soft-Cs so any time a word starts "Ce" or "Ci" its a K sound. Same with the letter G.
- 13:30 - Alinor Docks didn't get much use until Open Borders. All trade went to Shimmerine and the Navy was based in Sunhold.
- 18:10 - Cathedral of Webs was a library that used to be part of the Sapiarch's College in the mid-1st Era. It was also used for governmental archives. The reason its ruined it because of the Interegnum where many places of high repute fell into ruin and abandonment. This place was abandoned at the end of the 1st Era, along with the town of Corgrad where the people who worked in the archive lived.
- 19:15 - 1000 to 1500 years ago Summerset's population was 3 to 4 times bigger.
- 23:00 - The term Elvish is used when referring to their speech. Elven for their culture.
- 24:05 - Ald Mora (Old Forest) Ruins are some of the oldest on the island. Dated to the Aldmer. Used to be in the middle of the forest, but now is on the outskirts.
- 27:00 - Eldbur Ruins are one of three Psijic ruins dealing in Psijic Magical Enquiry or Monastery of Mystic Enquiry. 2000 years ago during the height of their influence in Tamriel that had several locations on the island and would send out envoys to give non-partisan advice on how to rule. There used to be many more Psijic monks in general. There were many monks based here. Its the place where the experiments of the Psijics went too far and caused them to become cautious. Studying the 11 forces.
- 30:09 - During the 11 Forces experiments, they considered that there were only really 9, and 3 were the same and if they could be mapped onto each other you could get more efficient magical transportation via teleportation. Experiment failed, magical explosion. Monks turned into spirits. Place was then shut down.
- 36:00 - Welwas from Merethic Era (conflicting with above stream)
- 41:35 - The old Arena (3rd Era) maps were drawn by Imperials who imperialized the name Sil-Var-Woad into Silver Wood.
- 42:45 - Garden of the Sacred Numbers is laid out in a way that makes numerological sense to the Altmer, for whom the numbers have certain mystical properties. (see loc book)
- 44:00 - Keep of the Eleven Forces is the 2nd and largest Psijic ruin. It was their HQ when they were still in Summerset. The keep is still magically sealed.
- 45:33 - The Forum of 11 Columns represents the 11 Forces. Layout is 3 then 4 each side and 1 at the top. This is significant but we don't know why. Mentioned Hyperagonal Collapse Incident at Eldbur ruins - column layout there was the same.
- 49:00 - Colleseum of the Old Ways is where the Order test out the strength of Atronachs, sometimes against each other. Originally it was called the Examplerium of the Old Ways where they tested out spells.
- 53:35 - "Everything I told you is totally true and comes out the lore and I did not make it up from the top of my head not even a little bit". :p
ESO Knowledge Base Lore[edit]
A compilation of lore pieces that have been answered on the official site: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/list/kw/~any~/p/1
WHAT DO THE ALDMERI DOMINION SYMBOLS REPRESENT?
The Aldmeri Dominion has adopted as its symbol the eagle sigil of the High Elves of Summerset. For the Altmer, the high-soaring eagle represents their ancestors the Aedra, who came from the heavens and were trapped in physical form by the creation of Nirn. The Khajiiti symbol depicts Nirn's two moons—Masser and Secunda—and the Cat-folks' claws. The Bosmeri symbol represents the Green Pact with Y'ffre the Forest Deity.
WHAT ARE THE MEANINGS OF THESE EBONHEART PACT INSIGNIAS YOU USED FOR THE FACEBOOK AND TWITTER ICONS?
The Nord dragon insignia honors both the Dragonborn and the history of their people's struggle against the power of the dragons. The three spikes of the Morrowind insignia refer to the three living gods of the Tribunal honored by most Dark Elves—Almalexia, Sotha Sil, and Vivec. The insignia for Black Marsh is a stylized rendering of an Argonian's face—but whether it depicts some ancient hero or ruler of Black Marsh history, or just represents the race as a whole, only the Argonians know. And they're not telling.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A LION ADORNING THE CRESTS OF BOTH THE BRETONS AND THE DAGGERFALL COVENANT AS A WHOLE?
When the Breton Lion Guard became High King Emeric’s elite knightly order, he adopted the lion as his personal crest, and thereafter it became the martial symbol of the Daggerfall Covenant.
THE ALDMERI DOMINION FOUNDATION DOESN'T MATCH ESTABLISHED LORE, DOES IT?
Over time, there have been several federations in southwestern Tamriel known as the Aldmeri Dominion. None lasted very long, and due to the insular nature of the High Elves, their histories are poorly understood in Cyrodiil and the other provinces. The Aldmeri Dominion founded by Queen Ayrenn in 2E 582 is the First Dominion; the federation founded in 2E 830 is the Second Dominion; while the Elven empire of the Fourth Era (as seen in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) is the Third Dominion – or possibly the Fourth. (It’s a matter of some debate among historians of Elven affairs.)
WHAT IS THE SOCIAL AND LEGAL OPINION OF SLAVERY IN TAMRIEL DURING THIS TIME PERIOD?
It varies by jurisdiction. The Clans of the Reach, for example, certainly keep captured enemies as slaves – but they’re barbarians. In most civilized realms, slavery is illegal, with the obvious exception being Morrowind. Under the terms of the Ebonheart Pact, the Dark Elves have had to liberate their Argonian slaves, but they still have slaves of other races, the most common of which are Khajiit.
IS MALACATH WIDELY ACCEPTED BY THE ORCS AS A DEITY, OR IS IT ONLY CERTAIN GROUPS THAT CONSIDER HIM THEIR GOD?
As with other races, the religious practices of the Orcs vary from place to place and from clan to clan. Some Orcs worship the Daedric Prince Malacath; some Orcs (including most of those in the Daggerfall Covenant) worship the Divine named Mauloch and insist he is not a Daedra at all; and some Orcs couldn't care less whether their god is a Daedra, and worship him under either name. In such matters of metaphysics, it's difficult (if not impossible) to determine what the "truth" really is.
ARE THE NATIONS IN THE PACT ENTIRELY HAPPY WITH THE ALLIANCE?
The foundation on which the Ebonheart Pact was built—a mutual desire for survival—makes for a deeply complex and ever-shifting political atmosphere. The Argonians, Nords, and Dark Elves have set aside their differences, for now, to unite under one banner against their shared enemies, but it would be a far cry from the truth to say that everyone is happy or even content with the Alliance. A certain level of distrust and resentment smolders just beneath the surface for many members of the Pact.
While some are openly accepting or critical of the Alliance, most Pact members you’ll encounter fall somewhere in between, and hold their true feelings about the arrangement close to their chest. It really depends on each individual character’s perspective and life experiences. Most of those players will encounter are not willing to reveal their personal feelings to a stranger, but players will meet some who are very open with their praise or disdain for the choices their leaders have made.
WHY DID THE ALDMERI DOMINION CHANGE VALENWOOD'S CAPITAL CITY? AND WHY IS A BOSMER CITY THE CAPITAL OF THE DOMINION, DESPITE THE FACT THAT ALTMER ARE THE TRUE LEADERS?
The High Elves proposed Elden Root in Valenwood as the capital of the Aldmeri Dominion for strategic reasons – it helps bind the continental races to the Elves of Summerset to have the capital on Tamriel – and for mystical reasons, about which we can say no more!
HOW DID THE ALDMERI DOMINION COME TO BE FORMED IN THE FIRST PLACE?
It was really the brainchild of Queen Ayrenn after she assumed the throne of Alinor. Having traveled Tamriel extensively before returning to Summerset, she was aware of the dire threats menacing the world and saw it as the proper duty of the Elves to put things right. At the same time, the Wood Elves and Khajiit were facing troubles of their own and in need of allies, so they came together to form the Dominion.
WHAT MADE THE BOSMER DECIDE TO JOIN THE DOMINION?
After the recent civil war between the Camorans, Valenwood was in disarray and vulnerable to external threats. The Cabal who ran the Imperial City took advantage of this by sending Colovian troops to seize some of the Wood Elves’ northern territory. Seeking an ally to help drive back the Colovians, the Bosmer King Aeradan turned to Queen Ayrenn and her new Dominion.
WHY ARE MAPS OF THE NORTHERN EBONHEART PACT COASTLINES HANGING IN THE MAOMER EMBASSY ON KHENARTHI'S ROOST?
The Maomer are based in the southern seas close to the Aldmeri Dominion, but they are committed seafarers and some rove waters well beyond their home territories. As a people they also prize nautical maps from far-flung regions of Tamriel, so it's a point of considerable pride for the Maomer delegation that the embassy in Mistral has such maps on display.
