Proposed Policy for Filter[edit]
I've written a policy for the Abuse Filter, along with a requests/notifications page for reporting issues. Does anyone have any issues with it and can I get some votes on acceptance or refusing it. Obviously I support it. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:21, 25 January 2014 (GMT)
- Support: Covers all the bases, I think. Minor EditsThreats•Evidence 01:02, 26 January 2014 (GMT)
- Comment: The more I read about that edit filter, the more I dissent it. From the WP page: The Edit filter is a tool used to allow trusted users to set specific controls on user activity and create automated reactions for certain behaviors. Blocking spam and vandalism is unfortunately necessary. But that exactly should be the limit of filtering. Any other reactions for certain behaviors or controls are certainly not desirable. The need to rename an "Abuse Filter" into "Edit Filter" is for me a sign for heading in the wrong direction. I guess what I would want from the policy is making it really clear that filtering will be limited to combat blatant vandalism and spam. We are not as big as WP, any other issues can be detected and acted on by humans. --Alfwyn (talk) 00:49, 27 January 2014 (GMT)
- Support: Decent page. Based on what Alfywn said, I would say change "though it can be used for other filtering as desired" to "if necessary". I can't think of any other reason we'd add other things to the filter, but it could become necessary. However, the page should have the same name as the filter; Abuse Filter rather than Edit Filter. Consistency, and removal of confusion. As Wikipedia's is called Edit Filter, though, we could have a redirect. I think we should also create a link to this page (if fully supported) from the filter warnings. Vely►t►e 01:38, 27 January 2014 (GMT)
- Support: Now the intend is clearly spelled out, I can fully support it. I think it will be useful to have an actual policy about it. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:35, 8 February 2014 (GMT)
- Support: Now the slight confusion has been cleared (I prefer Abuse Filter personally as that is what we're using it for, though I can see why Edit Filter is less offensive to those caught accidentally) about the name, i'm happy with this. --Kiz(email - talk) 21:41, 8 February 2014 (GMT)
