Improvement[edit]

Is there anything I can do to help expand this contact page and make a better system out of it? --Aristeo 12:51, 22 May 2006 (EDT)

Three and a half months later, I expand it and link to it on the sidebar. Tell me what you all think :D. --Aristeo 10:21, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Why I'm not allowed to delete my usertalk page and other pages within the site?[edit]

Do I have the right to delete my own user talk pages articles?ShakenMike 12:21, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

you can delete your user talk page, we told you this many many times. If you didn't delete the answers people give you on the general talk pages, you wouldn't ask 65465464 times the same questions. An example
HERE. Are you going to delete this reply too? --Vartan 12:28, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

This one I won't delete.ShakenMike 12:33, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

E-mail[edit]

Hey, dont you guys just have an e-mail that we could send you questions, instead of doing all the hard stuff?? (Pinbal20 11:21, 18 August 2007 (EDT))

Editors who choose to provide an email address can be contacted by email. But if you send an email you are only contacting that individual editor, instead of asking the community as a whole. And the people who contribute to this site are just random individuals volunteering their time, so if you contact an editor out of the blue to ask random questions about game glitches there is no reason why they should necessarily want to answer your questions. And, sorry, but clicking "edit" on an article's talk page doesn't exactly qualify as "hard". --NepheleTalk 11:35, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

O, sorry man, i am just new here, so i dont know much, but ok, thanks (Pinbal20 11:38, 18 August 2007 (EDT))

QuestID and Stage[edit]

(Question and answer moved to Oblivion talk:Quests#QuestID and Stage. Topic has no relevance to contact article.) --NepheleTalk 17:10, 25 July 2008 (EDT)

Email sending[edit]

On the project page the following is stated:

In the search box on the left side of the page, type in User_talk:Username and click "Go".
Click on the E-mail This User link on the left side of the page, type in your message, and hit send.

Am I just blind, or does this link not exist? - Game LordTalk|Contribs 11:02, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

I'm seeing it. For me, it's the fifth link in the toolbox section, but for you it's probably the fourth, after "User Contributions" and before "Upload File". It appears on both the user's page and the user's talk page. However, the limitations mentioned on the article do apply: "you must be logged into the site and have provided a verified e-mail address." --NepheleTalk 14:49, 14 September 2008 (EDT)
It seems I was just blind, I can see it now. Thanks. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 14:53, 14 September 2008 (EDT)

Auto place blinking I-bar in Search box[edit]

I'd like to suggest that the webmaster add code that would cause the insertion point (I-bar) to be placed in a page's Search box each time the page is loaded (the same way the Google home page works). This would allow users to begin typing their search terms immediately, saving them time and mouse clicks. Aethrun (talk) 16:32, 15 February 2013 (GMT)

Do you mean on every single page load on the wiki? Or just the search page? Jeancey (talk) 17:10, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
I think he means every single page load. For page viewing, at least, it would make sense, since that's the only editable field on the page (barring a few administrative and special pages). For page editing, it would make more sense to put the focus in the edit box. That said, I don't know how easy that sort of thing would be to integrate with the MediaWiki software. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:30, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
I do mean on every page load. I don't know much about HTML coding, but since the left column on every page seems to be identical the necessary change could be made to the master code and then an instruction issued to propagate the change over every page on the site. I think the change involved would be to add a short script to place the insertion point. This wouldn't be hard for a professional web developer.Aethrun (talk) 16:24, 16 February 2013 (GMT)
The real question though, is that useful? It might be convenient sometimes, but when editing the site it would seem to make things much more cumbersome. The point of a wiki is that everyone can edit, so editing must be the main focus here. Jeancey (talk) 16:28, 16 February 2013 (GMT)
There wouldn't be any effect on editing. The change would only cause a blinking I-bar to appear in the search box at the upper-left corner of each page whenever the page loads. It wouldn't move the user's mouse pointer from its current position, load a different page, or cause any other change. Users doing edits would click in the edit box to place the insertion point where they want to edit, just as they do now. Aethrun (talk) 17:28, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

() Having the search bar become active by default is not done on wikipedia either. I believe the reason behind this is that people also use the arrow keys to scroll the page (I do this myself). This is mainly done on laptops because there is no mouse-wheel, and is easier to do when reading a page. As wikipedia has chosen not do this, and gets more traffic, I see no reason why the UESP needs to inconvenience many, for the small benefit of not having to move the arrow and click. The difference with the google main page is that its purpose is to type something, notice that after searching then clicking page 2 of the search, google does not auto-activate the search bar again. I assume that the overwhelming majority of the site's visitors come to look things up. The first thing they do is to move their mouse pointer to the upper-left corner and click on the search box. It's this wasted motion, repeated endlessly, that I'd like to see eliminated.
It's true that people who use the down arrow to navigate would have to press Tab before the arrow would work, and this would be an extra step for them. But I think they more than gain back that time and effort by not having to set the focus on the search box in the first place. Aethrun (talk) 22:10, 16 February 2013 (GMT)
Personally, I would not like it. It would be a great annoyance to me to have the blinking thing on the sidebar automatically if I'm attempting to read, and I would have to click off of it.
That said, I don't think it would hurt to add it as an option in preferences, if it's not too difficult to add. Vely►t►e 23:44, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

IRC Web Chat[edit]

Is the IRC Web Chat down? I can not connect to it with Mozilla Firefox. ~ meh — Unsigned comment by 88.153.140.235 (talk)19:58, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

The web chat is currently broken. The IRC channel is still accessible through other clients, though. Echo (talk) 19:58, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

visibility of email address[edit]

I am a relatively new user and I am unsure about how public my email address will be. I removed my email in my user settings at first, but then added it back in.
It seems like my email is not overtly displayed, but if someone uses the instructions given on this page they can contact me by email. Does it then become visible, or is an alias used?
I suppose I could just make a new email account that is separate and do email fwding, but I figured I'd ask here first.
Also, is there a way to tag someone through a Talk page like @"chill fridge" ? If so, how is notice given?
Thanks in advance. Chill fridge (talk) 11:14, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
