Scholarly Pursuits[edit]

I will ask our guests what they have been working on in the world of TES! This can be game play, wiki work, discord things, anything relevant to UESP/TES that you’ve been working on the past couple weeks / when you were last on the show.

  • Pylawn
    • ESO
      • Finished most of the Alik’r Desert quests
      • My house is open for vandalism
  • AKB
    •  :| I watched a very sad video about a dog just before this show and am now very sad.
    • Pylawn, Lost, and Kiz talked over me.
  • Alarra
    • Not much. Playing Animal Crossing.
  • baratron
    • Have mostly been playing Pokemon Shield this week.
    • ESO news from PC-NA:
      • UESP ran Veteran Sunspire and improved our score from the very embarrassing 72 up to 27,473. We’d do better if we practised more often.
      • Got our Guild Trader spot back after a week without.
    • Just learned that the entire country has to go into COVID-19 lockdown - no gatherings of more than 2 people (unless you live together), all restaurants closing even for takeaway/delivery only, etc. Feeling a little numb.
  • Lost
    • Uh...I played GW2

ESO[edit]

  • The annual Jester’s Festival begins Thursday, March 26 at 2pm GMT/10am EDT, and continues until Thursday April 2 at 2pm GMT/10am EDT.
    • Complete the intro quest to get the Pie of Misrule memento, which gives a two-hour, 100% XP buff every time you use it.
    • The usual 3 silly daily quests (catch the pig, set off fireworks, throw flowers on the grumpy professors).
    • Get a Jester’s Festival Reward Box every time you complete a quest on each character.
    • The first time you complete each quest each day, you are rewarded a Stupendous Gift Box instead. These include from previous years:
      • Cadwell’s Kitchen Arms Style Pages
      • Fragments of two Mementos: the Festive Noise Maker or Jester’s Festival Joke Popper
      • Runeboxes containing the Cherry Blossom Branch or Jester’s Scintillator mementos
    • This year’s special is fragments for the Sovereign Sow pet!
      • Guaranteed drop within the first Stupendous Gift Box you open each day!
    • Silly achievements relating to the throwing of Pie at people (you too can be an Empieror).
    • 3 Event Tickets once per account the first time you complete a Jester’s Festival quest each day. These can be exchanged for the usual Indrik feathers and berries, or for missing fragments of the Mementos/Pet.
      • New Group Repair Kits will allow you to repair worn gear for group members in your zone. Not sure how much these will cost yet. May be very useful in Trials… (Can they be used in Cyrodiil?)
    • News Article
  • Gloomspore Crown Crates are now available. Lots of very cool items. I personally noted:
    • The Dwarven Miniature Sun furnishing and the Graverobber costume (both 100 Crown Gems)
    • The Arachnophobia emote and the Painting of Blackreach, Rough (40 Crown Gems)
    • and the Angry Dust Off and Let There Be Lichen emotes (16 Crown Gems).
    • Also the usual tattoos/body markings, make up, and the return of the Blacksmith costume which hasn’t been available to buy since May 2015!
    • News Article
  • This week’s patch notes, mainly small fixes, already live on PC/Mac, coming to consoles March 25th 6:00AM EDT (10:00AM UTC)
    • Nightblade’s Assassination Ultimate, Incapacitating Strike, has been fixed so you can no longer move around while stunned.
    • Patch Notes
  • This week’s PTS patch is very different from usual. It is Update 25 with major combat changes for us to test.
    • At present, light attacks are used for damage and heavy attacks to restore resources (Magicka or Stamina depending on the type of weapon used).
    • This is what we have become used to over the years, but does it logically/intuitively make sense?
    • In order to get high DPS, players need to master light attack weaving, which is not explained anywhere in game.
    • “It tends to reward players for pushing buttons as quickly and efficiently as possible. Players with high Actions Per Minute (APM) significantly outperform those with low APM, as they have better up-time of abilities, higher mitigation, much higher DPS, and can simply move around the battlefield better in both PVE and PVP.”
    • Now on PTS, light attacks now restore resources, and heavy attacks do not.
    • Light attack damage is reduced, and heavy attack damage is increased.
    • Idea of using Update 25 code with nothing else changed is so that we may make direct comparisons between Live and PTS.
    • This is genuinely a test and these changes may never make it into the Live game.
    • Forums are blowing up with complaints, mostly from players who are refusing to test the changes because they object to them so much (urgh)
    • Forum Post

Legends[edit]

  • Legends had the odd Gauntlet, yay we missed it! - News Post

Blades[edit]

  • *crickets continue*

Other[edit]

  • GOG has general sales on, more relevant, ~50% off Bethesda titles, from Battlespire/Redguard to Oblivion as well as there other titles - GOG
  • Call to Arms and Lootcrate shipping may be delayed due to coronavirus

Topic: Books + Supplements[edit]

(LB) indicates it is a lorebook compilation, no unique texts, but includes concept art

  • Arena - Codex Scientia
    • Pretty cool, got it on GOG. Covers a lot of details about the game! Hints and tips, bestiary stats, lots of tables, maps, formulae, stats for artifacts, diseases and holidays!
  • The Daggerfall Chronicles
    • Also on GOG. Timeline, lore about gods, Daedra, royals, game mechanics galore, complete walkthrough of the main quest, including the multitude endings!
  • Battlespire Athenaeum
    • NOT available on GOG. We have relevant lore excerpts on UESP though. Cool details about Battlespire. Includes game guide information which I’m not privy to.
  • Redguard
    • Pocket Guide to the Empire: 1st Edition
      • One of the ‘foundations’ of the lore transformation for the series. Considered to be propaganda from the Empire, has a Thalmor affiliate writing notes in the margins mocking it!
    • The Origin of Cyrus!
      • A comic book serving as a prologue to Redguard. I would definitely read more TES comics!
    • The Redguard Companion
      • Also unknown to me, serves as a gameguide. Also reveals some details of the world unmentioned in the games!
  • Morrowind
    • The Art of Morrowind
      • Came with the Collector’s Edition. Has some very neat concept art! Gallery is available on TIL
    • The Morrowind Prophecies
      • Game guide, came in two versions. One for the base game, and an expanded GOTY version which includes both expansions. Same as above, walkthroughs and details on mechanics, maps. GOTY comes with GOG copy of Morrowind!
  • Oblivion
    • Pocket Guide to the Empire: 3rd Edition
      • A very good update to the ‘state of the lore’ when Oblivion came out. Still has stuff where you might consider it propaganda, but much less obviously so. I’d consider it a good rundown on Tamriel.
    • Prima Game Guide
      • Same as above, but now Prima is publishing! Bethesda self published all their own guides prior to this one. Factoid, we learned that a specific statue in Cheydinhal is of Vanus Galerion because of this book!
    • Shivering Isles Game Guide
      • No details on this one, but Prima typically are quite exhaustive
  • Novels
    • Very entertaining, two part story about a serious threat to Tamriel 40 years after the Oblivion Crisis. Highly recommended! Follows Annaig, Mere-Glim, Attrebus, and Colin on an intertwined story to deal with a floating city of death, Naxxram Umbriel
    • The Infernal City
    • Lord of Souls
  • Skyrim
  • Online
    • Improved Emperor’s Guide to Tamriel
      • Like the PGEs, but includes a story of the author who is going around to the places, having experiences, and refining this guide
    • Hero’s Guides to TESO
      • All three of these viewable on TIL
      • Agents and Reagents
        • Discusses a catalogue of alchemical ingredients, all while giving hints of a story from these alchemists.
      • Gathering Force
        • Journal discussing the armaments of various cultures, in the setting of the rising issues with the Planemeld.
      • Kyne’s Challenge
        • VERY cool book about a hunting party setting out to slay all manner of dangerous beasts throughout Tamriel. Has some crossover with the story of the Improved Emperor’s Guide, and leads up to the Planemeld. Highly recommended!
    • Poster Collection
      • Has 40 posters in it, many of them are viewable on UESP.
    • Tales of Tamriel (LB)
    • Naryu's Journal
      • Follows Naryu in a storyline that spans most of the space between the base-game ESO and the beginning of the Morrowind chapter. Also an intriguing plot!
    • Morrowind Strategy Guide
      • Prima, haven’t seen
    • The Alinor Codex (LB) + Razum-dar’s Journal
      • Raz’s journal is a prelude to some of the events happening in the Summerset chapter, again following a popular character.
    • Summerset Strategy Guide
      • Prima, haven’t seen
  • Official Cookbook
    • I’ve already bragged about this one, but some great recipes! And some cool tidbits about the universe, focused on the mundane side of cultural food differences. Does not disappoint!
