Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Davor Indri, standing near the eastern entrance to the Almas Thirr Canalworks will ask for your help discerning a Hlaalu spy among his four slaves. He knows that there is a spy among them but cannot figure out who it is and believes that he will be punished if he does not locate the spy before their pickup by Indoril nobles. Davor gives you the key to the slave pen and walks down the hall in the hopes that his absence will loosen the slaves' tongues.

Enter the pen and speak with each of the slaves regarding the "Spy in disguise," topic.

Llaynasa Nothro, when questioned about the spy in disguise, will tell you that she became Davor's slave shortly after incurring too large a debt in the Vivec Arena. She claims that this is visible on her transaction records, which Davor possesses. Prompting Davor with this information proves her story to be true.

Ja'Weer will tell you that he descends from a long line of slaves and as such was sold with "a beast pedigree," which proves he has no relation to House Hlaalu. Asking Davor about this beast pedigree proves both it's existence and Ja'Weer's story.

Jar'Jo-Zhid refuses to talk to you at all and claims that there is no spy among the slaves. When Davor is told this, he will ask that you relay to Jar'Jo-Zhid that anyone who refuses to cooperate with the investigation will be sold to House Indoril for questioning by the guards. Jar'Jo-Zhid is moved by this threat and will tell you that he became a slave when he was captured trying to sneak across the border into Cyrodiil, where he wanted to become an arena fighter. However, Jar'Jo-Zhid's transaction records, which Davor is in possession of, show he was captured in Andothren, a city not too far to the north of Almas Thirr. When asked about this discrepancy, Jar'Jo-Zhid admits to being a spy and asks that you free him. If you do free him, he promises to reward you in exactly three days. In order to free him you will need to give him one lockpick.

Questioning Rulene about the spy in disguise leads to her telling you that she wants nothing to do with any of the heretical Dunmer as she was a priestess of Xarxes in the Summerset Isles prior to being enslaved. Davor, however, claims that Rulene attempted to seduce him the night before, and although this does not outright refute her story it does cast some doubt. When prompted with her failed seduction attempt, Rulene will, in a hushed tone, admit to being a spy. She will beg you not to expose her to Davor. She promises that she will stop spying once she is sold to House Indoril, as they will protect her from any retaliation by House Hlaalu. She also promises to never show her face again if she is freed. In order to be freed you will need to give her one lockpick.

Once you have discovered at least one of the spies you can reveal them to Davor. If you have discovered both spies, you will have the option to report either Rulene or Jar'Jo-Zhid as well as the option to reveal both at once. Revealing just one spy results in a 100 drake reward from Davor. Revealing both spies results in a 250 drake reward as well as the Amulet of the Thrifty Slaver, which has a constant effect Fortify Mercantile by 15 points. However, if you free both slaves you will receive no reward from Davor. Instead, Jar'Jo-Zhid will pay you a visit in three days and attempt to kill you because you helped to ruin his plot. If you are able to kill Jar'Jo-Zhid, you can collect from his corpse the Ring of the Chained Eye, which is enchanted with a Cast When Used spell that blinds its target 50% for 10 seconds.

Notes[edit]

  • The version of Jar'Jo-Zhid that attacks you after 3 days is actually a different NPC from the slave you first encounter.

10 Davor Indri, a Dunmer slaver in Almas Thirr, has asked me to interrogate some slaves being held for an Indoril noble due to suspicions that any of them could be a spy in disguise. I turned him down, but he asked me to return if I changed my mind.
20 I have agreed to help Davor Indri, a Dunmer slaver in Almas Thirr, find out if there is a spy in disguise among his slaves.
22 After a preliminary interrogation, Ja'Weer revealed to me that he descends from a long line of Argonian slaves who served minor nobility, and has been trained to do the same. To corroborate this, he told me to check his beast pedigree, which should be known to Davor.
24 After a preliminary interrogation, Llaynasa told me she was recently enslaved after incurring a rather large gambling debt at the Arena in Vivec. She had not had any transactions before Davor bought her from the market in Vivec, and thus could not have been in contact with a member of House Hlaalu. She said to check her transaction record, which Davor should have.
26 After a preliminary interrogation, Rulene told me she was originally a priestess of Xarxes in the Summerset Isles, and that she would never cooperate with the heretic dunmer, no matter which mer was from which "Great House".
28 Jar'Jo-Zhid refused to cooperate with my investigation. Davor may have some advice on motivating him to comply.
32 Davor had Ja'Weer's beast pedigree, and could confirm his story about a family of slaves trained to serve minor nobility. Jar'Jo-Zhid did not have a pedigree, since he is a first-generation slave.
34 Davor had a transaction record for each of the slaves. He checked Llaynasa's, and it backed up her story. It is unlikely Llaynasa was recruited by House Hlaalu while Davor owned her.
46 Rulene's claim to be a priestess of Xarxes does not hold up with Davor's experience. He told me Rulene had propositioned and tried to seduce him, something an Altmer devout would never do. She must have been lying about her origins.
56 When confronted with her lie, Rulene broke down and begged me not to tell Davor that she was the spy, or to free her. She promised not to cause any trouble once she was safely in an Indoril household, away from her Hlaalu handlers.
66 I freed Rulene.
68 Davor suggested I tell any uncooperative suspect that any slave not determined innocent would be sold to House Indoril for interrogation by the Ordinators.
78 Davor's threat loosened Jar'Jo-Zhid's tongue. He told me he learned to fight on the streets of Kragen Mar before catcatchers caught him trying to sneak into Cyrodiil to fight in the Imperial City's Arena district. I should ask Davor about this.
88 Jar'Jo-Zhid's transaction record showed him being sold by catcatchers in Andothren. This contradicts his story of capture on the border with Cyrodiil.
90 When asked about the transaction record, Jar'Jo-Zhid admitted to being a spy. He asked me not to tell Davor, or to free him instead. He will repay me in 3 days if I accept.
95 I agreed to free Jar'Jo-Zhid, but I need a lockpick first. I should also tell Davor someone else is the spy.
97 When asked about the transaction record, Jar'Jo-Zhid, realizing I was a member of House Hlaalu, asked me not to tell Davor he was a spy in disguise. He will ensure I am rewarded if I do this.
100 I freed Jar'Jo-Zhid. He has promised to repay me in three days. Now I need to denounce someone else as a spy before Davor.
