Astien's strange spell in The Moth and Tiger

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Arquebald Vene in Old Ebonheart's Mages Guild.
  2. Ask around the inns of Old Ebonheart about Astien Lothaire.
  3. Go to the Moth and Tiger, in Old Ebonheart and ask the bartender about Astien.
  4. Speak to Astien at the bottom of the well behind the Moth and Tiger.
  5. Speak to Zissicheeiva at the Mages Guild, and obtain the Buoyancy Ring.
  6. Return to Astien and give the Buoyancy Ring to him.
  7. Return to Arquebald.

Notes[edit]

  • You can talk to Evilde in the Mages Guild to deal with the chairs. Place the candle in the Moth and Tiger and activate it for a 70 Gold reward.
  • There are a couple of means of helping Astien that do not involve spending money on the Buoyancy Ring.
    1. If your Alteration level exceeds 25, you can teach him a water breathing spell (or a burden spell disguised as a waterbreathing spell).
    2. If you know Divine Intervention, you can teach him this.
  • If you know Almsivi Intervention and teach it to him he will teleport you on top of the nearby castle instead of himself

10 Arquebald Vene has asked that I check on Astien Lothaire, a wayward apprentice of the Mages Guild.
15 Astien Lothaire has a reputation as a drunkard. I might be able to find him in a tavern.
20 Valia Vautere told me Astien Lothaire stayed briefly at The Moth and Tiger. Apparently he drank himself into a stupor and was cast into the street after his spells went awry.
21 Valia told me that the wells in Old Ebonheart connect to the city's sewer system. If Astien Lothaire fell down one of them, he could be in the sewers still.
30 It appears Astien Lothaire has fallen inside the well behind the inn.
33 Astien Lothaire has asked me to bring him a Buoyancy Ring from Zissicheeiva, who is currently in the Old Ebonheart Mages Guild.
40 I helped Astien Lothaire out of his predicament.
41 I helped Astien Lothaire out of his predicament. In a sense.
50 Finishes quest☑ Arquebald rewarded me for my trouble with Astien Lothaire.

10 Valia Vautere says Astien Lothaire used a strange spell to enchant the chairs in her tavern. They've been flying around ever since.
23 Valia Vautere has asked for my help calming down the chairs Astien Lothaire hexed.
24 Elvilde in the Old Ebonheart Mages Guild may know how to help me with the flying chairs.
25 Elvilde gave me a ritual candle to put inside the Moth and Tiger. When I light it, the chairs should stop flying around.
26 I calmed the chairs. Maybe Valia has a reward for me.
29 Valia Vautere thanked me for dealing with the bewitched chairs at The Moth and Tiger.
