Getting Volundrung to Legendary[edit]

Does anyone know how you can get Volundrung up to Legendary? I've got 100 Smithing and can only get it up to Flawless 74.107.100.96 02:06, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Friday13

The page clearly says that the hammer doesn't benefit from the Smithing perk that governs its upgrade material. You'll have to fortify your Smithing; see that skill's page for a table that will tell you how much you need to fortify it.166.182.3.106 02:40, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

I forgot to take Volendrung[edit]

So, I finished the quest, and stupid as I am, I didn't understand that the Hammer turned into Volendrung. So I just left. And now, when i'm going for the achievement which requires you to collect 15 daedric artifacts, I can't find it. Is it lost forever, or is there somewhere I can find it? --95.34.198.158 17:19, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

If you have the PC version, it's fairly easy to just add it to your inventory with the console. Or you could force the quest to reset if quests, not items, govern that achievement. Likewise, if you're on 360, you can transfer your file to PC, fix the issue with console commands, then transfer back. Lots of guides for that on the internet, but back up your saves. --173.31.188.10 22:08, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Because I'm adding it to the page I'm going to note here that you do not need to pick it up for the achievement, but you would need to use the console to spawn another if you don't and it disappears when the area resets. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:46, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Glowing[edit]

When I use Volendrung it has a faint glow all the time which I think is suppose to be normal. However sometimes the glowing becomes more extreme until the whole thing is glowing bright including the handle. At first I thought it might have had an effect that worked similar to the Dawnbreaker sword, but I have noticed it glowing randomly whilst in towns where no enemies could have been. What does the glowing mean? — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 11:26, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

The weapon has glow that slowly pulses. Perhaps the effect somehow glitches for you as it should not be super bright. Thuraya Salaris 11:35, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I also have seen this, at times the entire weapon glows instead of just the circle on the head. Maybe a bug? Happens everytime i enter the Ragged Flagon, anyone want to confirm? (On 360) Taku 19:55, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
It glows bright for me outside the Ragged Flagon aswell. It glows bright for me anywhere. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 20:02, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Is it a green glow, or a red one? Just to clarify, my Volendrung has no more charges left. Taku 21:29, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
No, it glows white. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 21:40, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Guard comments[edit]

Once you have Volendrung guards will comment "That is one... big hammer." — Unsigned comment by 75.34.55.137 (talk) on 19 January 2012

They wil also say: What are you going to use that hammer for? Smashing down a house? — Unsigned comment by 77.166.160.62 (talk) on 6 May 2012
NPCs are incredibly stupid on Skyrim. you could wear a Dark Brotherhood outfit or have any deadric artifact and they will only commet it on it. I have also been sneaking infront of NPCs with them looking at me and pickpoket them. So don't worry about it you will be safe. - Dark Forge Elf — Unsigned comment by 70.58.213.10 (talk) at 02:12 on 5 July 2012
NPCs in Skyrim have no worse AI than any other games of it's size or type. The Silencer speaksTalk 01:15, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I run around in full Dwarven armor and have advanced my heavy armor perk tree to the max. Now when I pass guards, they make the "light on your feet" comment because my armor no longer weighs anything. I came to this page to find out why Volendrung needs ebony ingots to improve rather than Dwemer metal. Anyone have a link to some Dwemer lore about that? — Unsigned comment by 67.177.185.151 (talk)
The dwarves knew how to work other materials besides Dwemer metal. I guess they chose Ebony just because of the look - Volendrung doesn't look like the typical brass-yellow color of other Dwemer artifacts. (And they couldn't change the look of it too much because it has appeared in other games.) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 21:54, 16 March 2013 (GMT)

Volendrung does not stay on weapon racks...[edit]

(PS3 user) Volendrung will 'fall' off of weapon racks and plaques for me, at least in Winstad Manor from Hearthfire. It will place onto the racks and plaques correctly, but leaving and re-entering the cell makes it appear on the floor. It is manipulatable so it isn't registering that it is supposed to be on the rack/plaque, but is instead treated as an item dropped from inventory. I've also noticed other weirdness with weapon racks and other weapons.

For instance, the Rusty Mace (I kept it by putting it on a weapon rack and finishing Molag Bal's quest without it) will slide upwards on the rack in the Proudspire Manor master bedroom, climbing further up towards the ceiling each time you exit and re-enter the cell, however the Mace of Molag Bal does not do this at all, on any rack. (That I have tested) Champion's Cudgel likes to float perpendicular to weapon plaques, instead of flush against it when I first place it, but will correct itself if I leave and re-enter the cell. Finally, the Staff of Magnus slides downwards, in the same fashion as the Rusty Mace. 75.173.64.14 08:52, 29 January 2014 (GMT)

This happens too often and too regular to be a problem with the weapons. It is the plaques that are at fault, and the unofficial patches have tried to do some work on them but I don't think it was too successful. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:08, 29 January 2014 (GMT)
Yup. In some cases the unofficial patches even mess up plaques that worked fine before. I wouldn't count on a fix for this any time soon. ThuumofReason (talk) 21:01, 29 January 2014 (GMT)
