Bug: Xbox 360[edit]

Had to kill Linwe, but he is already dead.

First time I went there I completed it like normal as part of the Thieve's Guild.

Second time I went there was for a Misc Quest and the arrow was on his corpse. I had to mod my save and convert it to PC to use the Resurrect command and kill him...again.

Now this is my 3rd time that I have to go there (part of a Misc Quest from Darkwater Crossing) and once again the arrow is on his corpse. So I have to mod my save again just to kill him again. I have the same bug on PC, however there are no bodies. Did the Thieves Guild questline first, then got the quest to kill the bandit leader. Upon return, there are no bandits of any kind in the cave, and the marker points to the chair in the small room where the leader of the rival guild sat, except very low to the chair as if the character is actually under the floor. Had to use the SetStage command to move past the quest. Ironmonger 21:38, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

I have the Thieves Guild quest and the Misc. "Bandit Leader" quest simultaneously, and it also points to the chair. Linwe is standing nearby though, and the arrow is high enough to be over someone's head... but nobody's there (Aura Whisper reveals nothing either). Killing Linwe clears the dungeon, but nothing respawns... no matter how long I wait. I've tried 30 days sitting in the Thieves Guild (to be out of Eastmarch as well) and still nothing. A generic Summerset Shadows thief respawns outside, but that's it.(Xbox)
Sorry for the long post, but I believe i've discovered the problem. Before Summerset Shadows progresses to stage 40 (Travel to Uttering Hills Cave), the cave is populated with Bandits, the Chief being the target of your radiant Misc objective. Afterwards, Linwe becomes the "Leader", but the radiant quests do not properly update to reflect this, and so continue to direct you to a nonexistent Bandit Chief. Reloading my save to a point where the quest was at 10 (Speak to Torsten Cruel-Sea) allowed me to enter the cave, kill the Bandit Chief, proceed with the quest in Windhelm and immediately return to the cave to take out the thieves, with no waiting required. I can confirm this. Had both quests and went to cave. After killing Linwe I had just an arrow on a chair for bandit leader. Used old save before stage 40 (Travel to Uttering Hills Cave), killed bandit leader. Then talked to Torsten and the cave was repopulated with Summerset Shadow thieves. So was able to get both quests. () I ran into this too. Had already completed Summerset Shadows and cleared that area. Won the war for the Empire. Eventually circled back around to Windhelm and got the quest to kill the leader of Uttering Hills Camp from the new Jarl. Went there, and oddly enough it had respawned Summersets. Killed them all, except it turned out that Linwe was still dead from the last time. He had the quest pointer directly over his head. I killed Linwe *so* far back (20+ levels?) that there is no way I'm going to reload, so I'm out of luck. (Xbox) Oshaugm 18:44, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Same for me. I would have reloaded a save before I got this misc. quest just today, but I didn't anticipate that the ship captain wouldn't know that the game would know better than to consider an empty corpse a bandit chief, so I overwrote that save an hour or so before I decided to go ahead do this quest. I'm not really all that annoyed to have another unfinishable misc. objective that only rewards a little gold stuck in my quest journal, but I am annoyed that dead thrall doesn't just work on humans up to level 50. It's so silly, since the strongest dragons are still very dangerous to a dead thrall who will only use its original equipment, and equally powerful enemies are everywhere when your character is at level 65. It makes end-game conjuration a bit...lackluster. Lydia can handle entire dungeons of level 40 to 50 enemies by herself thanks to Wabbajacking and some tempered ebony armor with strong resistances to most magic and a tempered ebony mace. It wouldn't be so bad if the alchemy effect wasn't wasted on extending duration. Who needs that with unending Master spells?--Playerseekingbugs 07:14, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Troll den[edit]

There is an unmarked location due east of the entrance to Uttering Hills cave that contains a troll den with the remains of a Stormcloak soldier. Should it be listed here, or somewhere? There really isn't any loot of value, but it is a point of interest. --Xyzzy 07:04, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Summerset Shadow/Bandit Chief Fix[edit]

Using prid c5675, followed by disable does not actually fix future "Kill the Bandit Leader" quests. The quest marker will still point to Linwe's invisible corpse instead of the new bandit leader. — Unsigned comment by 173.75.52.178 (talk) at 23:50 on 5 December 2012
I try it, resurrect doesn't work for the second time you do the mission Kill bandit leader in Uttering Camp, where Linwe is marked as bandit leader and all other enemies respawned each time, but not Linwe.
Then I disable and enable he again.

Now it took the correct ID

() Similar bug. However I have NOT started thief's guild quest line, so there is no conflict with Summerset Shadows. But I had two active "kill bandit leader" quests going. When I advanced "favor104" it advanced the quest from a different cave altogether. There was indeed a bandit leader here in Uttering Hills Cave, but the quest marker was not attached to him. I fixed it by "prid c5675, then disable/enable, the thieves all appeared and I killed Linwe (which I suspect may break the Summerset Shadows quest if I ever get that).--108.225.190.76 08:15, 5 February 2015 (GMT)

Interior/exterior[edit]

It is not true to state that most places have interior/ exterior mostly as that was what I was using until several long and boring discussions where I was in the wrong for using interior /exterior and was constantly having my work amended to use name of place/zone within a place. It is becoming more and more frustrating when I try an comply with the way different people want things showing when it seems to change from day to day. Depending on the weather! If I need to I can plow back through all the pages I've written to see who kept updating those pages to change the subheadings from interior to the link extensions, but to try and stop my blood from boiling and for me to chuck my toys out of my pram and give up on spending my time trying to help for nothing but grief in return, I'll try logic. I know nothing about wiki coding, so unless I'd had my work constantly changed I'd have never known to use link extensions on subheading on all pages would I? Biffa (talk) 17:18, 9 May 2014 (GMT)
I understand your frustration, we all do. It's just part of being apart of a massive collaboration like the UESP. You just have to calm down, take a few breaths, step away if needed, or even vent to a trusted friend/user, just so you don't do anything you might regret. Now, not everyone is totally clear on a format and some things don't have a specified format at all. In this case, I'm pretty sure the majority of pages are going with the format that Biffa has used/is using. •WoahBro►talk 17:22, 9 May 2014 (GMT)
After seeing the recent edits, I went to Caves and clicked on a bunch of them at random. There are clearly numerous variations:
In short, we haven't been terribly consistent. In the selections I looked at last night, Interior/Exterior seemed to be the most common, so that's what I picked. Looking more closely today, it looks like Walkthrough as the second level header is the most common, so we should probably move to that here. Beyond that, I agree that the location name probably makes the most sense as a third-level header, just for consistency, even if it is the same as the name of the page.
On a technical note, I just double-checked and we don't need the {{LE}} if the section name is the exact same as the link name. The italics don't bother it at all. The only time we need the LE is when the name differs, like when we were using the Zones in Oblivion. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:33, 9 May 2014 (GMT)

(edit conflict) ::::My frustrations comes from the fact that I've start several discussions trying to get confirmations on format, subhead ordering etc. for place pages, but they never seem to get anywhere. I do my best to complete info on places in a way that conforms to what I get told and what I see being changed to my posts, to try and produce quality pages, especially as I'm trying to complete all the place stubs for skyrim before I get the money together to get a gaming pc that can run ESO on and start my first toe dipping into playing an MMORPG. Sorry if I come across as argumentative/stressy it's not directed at anyone, just the situation of not being able to look at a single entry that clearly states:

Game: Skyrim Type of page: Place Info required: All items except clutter Format/Subhead Order: header, located, exterior, interior or LE, notes, bugs, maps, gallery. (or whatever)

or

Game: Oblivion Type of page: Quest Info required: who, what, where, how, rewards Format/Subhead Order: header, located, brief details, detailed walkhrough, bugs, maps, (or whatever)

These aren't suggestions of what the answers should be, but there should be a page telling everyone how to layout any page, for any game or DLC. That would stop all of these problems or misunderstandings. Anyway rant over! going to spend sometime just playing before I go back to my mini project of completing all the stubs. LOL @ Beezer. ;) Okay, so what I'm getting from all this is that whether or not it's officially part of any SRPRP, we clearly need some standards for Skyrim's Place pages. There's no particular reason that I can see that we can't make such a page and then refer to it, or discuss consistency issues on it, whenever we need. Biffa's idea may even be one better than that, in putting all the ideas onto one page, though looking at the size of some of the project pages, maybe separate pages are better. I'm ambivalent on that point. Does that sound reasonable?
Also, Biffa, just in regards to your edit summary, it's not the page name that's relevant, it's the section name. That's my fault for bringing both up in the same discussion and confusing the issue. So, if you have, let's say, === ''Uttering Hills Cave'' ===, you don't need to use an LE because the link ([[#Uttering Hills Cave]]) is the same as the section name. Let's say we were using zone numbering, though. Then, you'd have === ''Zone 1: {{LE|Uttering Hills Cave}}'' === so that you could still link to it with [[#Uttering Hills Cave]] rather than having to type out [[#Zone 1: Uttering Hills Cave]]. Cheers for the clarification, showing my lack of coding knowledge, I think. I agree whether the info is done on different pages for each game doesn't matter, it's the lack of consistency within each game and page type and the inability to go to a single source to learn and understand what is required for each game and each type of page.
