Note Consistency[edit]
Now that these are all in one place, the inconsistency in notes is really evident. At a glance, the following notes are all seen on this page:
- Cannot be found in game
- Cannot be obtained
- Can only be equipped by player using the console
- Does not appear in-game
- Cannot be equipped by player
- Cannot be obtained unenchanted
- Only equippable through the console
- Cannot be worn by the player
- Unobtainable by the player
- Not found in game
Now, to a certain extent, this is now true for all items on this page - none of them are available to the player in game. So most of these notes could maybe be removed. However, some do exist in game - used by NPCs. And some could be equipped by the player, but cannot be acquired in the game. (Either by virtue of not existing without use of console, or by being equipped by unkillable, unpickpocketable NPCs.) So notes may be needed to distinguish between these cases. It may be an interesting task figuring out which is which, because it's not always immediately obvious from the old comments we were using before. TheRealLurlock (talk) 21:18, 28 October 2012 (GMT)

- Oh man, is that what that means? I thought that just meant there weren't any guaranteed ways of getting them, but they still existed on leveled lists or something. If it really means "Cannot be found in game" or whatever - that means they belong on this page too. And I do think those items on the Clothing page should also be moved here, rather than just putting a link here. We want to get those items off the regular pages, and right now the Clothing page can use some serious size reduction. (I'm not sure if I like Jak's redesign there, it creates a whole lot of white space on that page and forces you to scroll a lot to get through it. Also it kind of undoes the trend of moving IDs into the Name column as we've been doing on all the other item pages. I may look into a better way of doing that... - Hm, looks like the potions actually appear on leveled lists (EDIT: that are seemingly on other lists that are not used at all - this needs further investigation). Clothes will all need moving (but we should be sure to what page, before we do it). I just linked it so we don't forget it. I would like to get a quick overview and do some research before doing all that. I actually planned to do it at some point, it just comes a bit rushed now. - Another reason we should wait a bit on the clothes is because there may be more clothing items which couldn't be obtained in the original version of the game, but can be after Hearthfire is installed. Green Robes and Red Robes are a couple examples, and I'm guessing there's some out there which this applies to but haven't had the information updated yet. - On the subject of the Clothing page, I've redone it in my sandbox so that the IDs display below the names, as is now the general format for all item pages. In order to make the connection from image to ID, I've simply made multiple cells with the same name and different ID rather than being forced to add an extra column. I think this looks much more consistent with our other item pages. I'm still not sold on the larger icons, but I'll defer to the community on that one. If we DO want larger icons, I'd say we should go larger on all the pages for consistency. Fortunately that's mostly just a matter of changing the icon template now, and maybe a few others. (←) Ok, the clothing page is another discussion for another page I guess. I tried to gather some information about unobtainable items here. Since the information about unobtainable status was done by different editors and it changes with add-ons, it probably should be checked individually, before moving the items. We can do that gradually, bit by bit, if we can agree on page names those things should go on.
I'm not really sure about the need of an "Item Templates" page at the moment, but the distinction between things you can actually see ingame (on NPCs) and things you can't see at all is an important one in my opinion. We have articles linking to the former ones, more readers might be interested in what that weapon was they got just hit with. I dubbed the page for it "NPC Gear" - is there a better name? Splitting the page would make the size of the page more reasonable, it looks like this page is going to inherit quite a bit from Generic Magic Apparel. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:23, 29 October 2012 (GMT)
- I agree that the distinction between what you can and can't actually see in gameplay is an important one. In my opinion, those items which no one would even know about without game data should be separated somehow from those which are clearly visible though not obtainable. As Alfwyn suggested in one of the two other discussions related to the creation of this page, it would make sense to split off all items that can only be seen or obtained through console use to one page, and all items that can only be used by NPCs to another page. Obviously this will take some time for everything to be sorted through, but that's what sandboxes are for. Unobtainable Items Becoming Obtainable[edit]
I was wondering if anyone had any input on what we should do with items which are unobtainable in the base game, but become obtainable with add-ons later. The Imperial War Horn is one such item, and so far it's just noted in the notes section for that item. Would we prefer to move it back on the SR:Miscellaneous Items page with a note there that it can only be obtained with Dragonborn installed, move it to an item page in the Dragonborn namespace, or leave it here as is? I'm not sure how many items this applies to, but it would be worth having them documented consistently. There are some items which are unobtainable in the base game, but can be obtained once Hearthfire or Dawnguard are installed, such as the Red Robes (which is documented at Skyrim:Clothes). Also, we currently have certain basic staves documented twice, once at Skyrim:Template Items and once at Skyrim:Staves. I know this is a slightly different situation, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to document these types of things consistently. — ABCface◥ 19:17, 19 December 2012 (GMT)
- For HF, I just moved them back to their original page, with a note (Skyrim:Flag). For Dragonborn we can do that too, or move them to a Dragonborn page. In any case, documenting the fact here until we collected the data is fine in the meantime. The staves are changed by Dragonborn, not only made available, so I see nothing wrong with documenting the different versions at two places. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:29, 19 December 2012 (GMT)
- Okay, thanks for the clarification on the staves. I knew that the name was different based on gameplay and it looked like the IDs were the same so I wasn't exactly sure about those- just that the situation for them was slightly different. But the fact that they were changed is enough of a reason to document them twice, so that makes sense. (On that note, should we add minor notes on each page regarding the changes? And/or linking to the other?)
- Anyway, I figured having the note on the Imperial War Horn entry here would work for now, I just wanted to see what others thought about what to do with it long-term. I think what you've done with the Flag that you linked, as well as what's done with the Red Robes noted above, is a good way to go, so that's probably what I'll end up doing with the Imperial War Horn too. (←) I have been able to obtain a few of these Items recently.Like one of the DO NOT DELETES.Go to the Alchemy shop in Riften,Then pick up a wooden plate(Not putting it in your inventory),pushing it on the left wall where you come in at and running into it.It might take a couple of tries.There is also a lootable chest that contains the merchant's items in it.I also have seen some ancient nord helmets in The Forsaken Cave.You can also equip them. New unobtainable items on the page[edit]
There're a few recent additions to this page, they come from Quest Items where they had been sitting with a note indicating they could not be obtained. Could someone take a look at them and make sure their table formatting is OK? In particular Herebane's Fortress, the icon for it looks out of alignment with the other items around it. I'm not good enough with wikitables; would probably wind up just littering the page with edits trying to get them looking right. --Morrolan (talk) 21:14, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
- It was due to that section needing centering for items with individual icons due to male/female versions of certain other items listed there. I've moved it to the Quest Items section though, and it's not an issue. — ABCface◥ 21:18, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
forsworn armor[edit]

- I tried using the console to obtain these items, but it appears that even though you get a message saying that the item was added, they don't actually appear in your inventory, meaning that I can't get a picture of them. - Those two armors don't have a world model assignet to them, so even if shown in the inventory, there wouldn't be any icon. As we only use the world models as icons for items, there is nothing to place in there.. -- SarthesArai Talk 18:04, 16 October 2013 (GMT)
Developer Intension[edit]
I'm not sure how useful it is to state developer intension. Unless we have an interview or the like, I think we should be careful not to jump to conclusions. Maybe it would be better to just state the facts like "has an editor id of ...". This can be verified, any possible intention not so much. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:05, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
- I don't think it's a stretch to assume that the unused "RannveigStaffEnch" is meant to belong to the only staff (also unused) with similar identification. There are already items that are known to use incorrect enchantments, like the Staff of Thunderbolts. I dislike the current wording, since now it sounds like Bethesda intentionally changed it, which is even less verifiable. How about something like "This staff appears to use an incorrect enchantment..."? --Dorsal Axe (talk) 16:33, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
- Yes, the dunRannveigSummonGhost effect was probably meant to be used by the dunRannveigStaffEnchSummonGhost enchantment (actually the staff uses that enchantment). But what makes you think Bethesda didn't change their mind and changed the enchantment? There are cases where they changed stuff without bothering to update internal IDs (Sons of Skyrim vs. Stormcloaks), so using internal IDs to infer bugs or mistakes is speculation in my eyes. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:51, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
Unobtainable Scrolls?[edit]
The list of unobtainable scrolls is pretty badly in error and should be fixed, but the question of where to move the mistakes to is something I'm not sure of. All of the following are found in leveled lists in the game and as a result of this, eventually do find their way into vendor inventories:
Scroll of Command Daedra, Scroll of Expel Daedra, Scroll of Fire Rune, Scroll of Flame Cloak, Scroll of Frost Cloak, Scroll of Frost Rune, Scroll of Lightning Bolt, Scroll of Lightning Cloak, Scroll of Lightning Rune, Scroll of Pacify, Scroll of Rally, Scroll of Reanimate Corpse, Scroll of Repel Lesser Undead, Scroll of Repel Undead, Scroll of Revanant, Scroll of Rout, Scroll of Turn Greater Undead, Scroll of Waterbreathing
There are also two unobtainable scrolls in the game that ARE NOT listed:
Scroll of Frost Thrall, Scroll of Storm Thrall.

Arm Bandages Obtainable?[edit]
After experimenting with a build on PC Skyrim, I discovered that the Arm bandages CAN be obtained if the injured soliders are killed at camps. Can anyone with a console copy please verify? 101.190.30.101 04:56, 27 January 2015 (GMT)

Unlisted / unknown unobtainable item found?[edit]
In the Dwemer Museum, in Understone Keep in Markarth, there's two or more club-/hammer-like things. They're essentially bones tied to the end of a bambooesque stick with four bands wrapped around the handle and a small blue gem or marble at the top.
Two can be found near the furtherest wall from the Dwarven Centurion on its left or axe-arm side, one in a display case and the other by the chest on the stone bench.
Neither the player character nor followers can pick them up. Its name, weight and value don't show up when hovering the cursor over them and the Unrelenting Force shout does nothing to them, so they probably lack physics, as well. I can't access Skyrim's console commands or files to test or find out anything else because I play on an Xbox. They could have been included in one of the add-ons but they were most likely in the base game.
Could someone with a computer look into this and maybe add it to this page? —Throwawayaccount

Brown Robes?[edit]
I found a set of brown robes in a game with Hearthfire, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn; but no mods. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I found it. Perhaps this isn't actually an unobtainable item. 73.37.37.3 09:38, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
Amulet of Bats[edit]
The Amulet of Bats in Unobtainable Jewelry does not have the correct image. It should in fact look like the Amulet of The Gargoyle. I think there is confusion here because there are two Amulet of Bats variants. — Unsigned comment by 143.159.42.12 (talk) at 05:34 on 24 November 2018

Skaal Amulet can be obtained[edit]
Despite what it says on this page, the Skaal Amulet can be obtained via the mind control spider pickpocketing glitch. It just requires using the Locket of Saint Jiub. Any other amulet is too heavy at a non-zero weight and not valuable enough to overcome the 1000 base value. Locket works because it has a non-zero armour rating. I have tested this on a fully vanilla copy of Special Edition's most recent version. When Frea equips the Locket, the Skaal Amulet is in her inventory fully visible and ready for the taking. — Unsigned comment by 62.45.67.184 (talk) at 11:19 on 7 September 2024
