Details About the Function of the Scrolls[edit]

I just added the following notes to the page, based off of my experimentation with the summoned spiders.

* Up to six spiders can be summoned at any one time, and do not count towards the summoning limit placed on Conjuration spells, meaning that they will not despawn when you use a summoning spell.
* The spiders do not have a time limit, and thus will remain summoned until they are destroyed. They will also fast travel with the player.
* The spiders will turn hostile to the player immediately if they are hit by any offensive ability of the player's that does any damage. This is only relevant to the Cloaked spiders however, as both the Jumping and Exploding variants will explode immediately upon damage. The ability to damage them is not affected by the "Companion's Insight" effect obtained through the Black Book quest.
* The Exploding spider types can be propelled by the Unrelenting Force shout for a short time before they will explode.

If anyone has anything else to contribute, or if you would like to confirm my observations, feel free..... ---Gamer3427 (talk) 02:57, 30 January 2013 (GMT)

Additional spiders[edit]

I just added the Glowing and Pack Spiders to the list - not sure why they were not made available; they work perfectly and are very useful at times. (Somebody needs to (and probably already has) mod these back into the game. Glow Dust would be obvious for Glowing Spider, not sure what makes sense for Pack Spider.) Their appearance differs from the icons used for the scrolls though - both seem to use the "Mind Control Spider" appearance, but the Glowing Spider has glowing yellow eyes instead of black like the rest of them.

Additionally, there's more in the CK that I did not include. There are 5 items all called "Cloaking Flame Spider". They have no icons, but appear to function identically to the "Flame Cloaked Spider". I think they may serve as templates? There's way more references to them than to the standard ones, so they're used somewhere, just not sure where.

Finally, there's 3 more spider scrolls, which appear to be duplicates of the 3 Flame spiders, but with the word "ENEMY" tacked onto their ID. These ones have no inventory name, and do not seem to appear in your inventory when you add them, though they do affect your encumbrance. (I think items with no display name automatically will not show in your inventory even if you have them.) Since I couldn't see them to test them, so no idea. Anyhow, thought I'd document this here for curiosity's sake. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:35, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Did those descriptions come from the CK as well? Since I do not use the CK, I would not know what information is accessible using it. This message was written by Rosalia Tell her how she is doing? 03:38, 18 February 2013 (GMT)
(edit conflict) Recipe - Pack Spider & Recipe - Glowing Spider. Not sure, but guessing the enemy ones are the ones used by Merilar Rendas. — ABCface 03:40, 18 February 2013 (GMT)
Ooh - I'm guessing the recipes don't work though. I gave myself the scrolls via console, and yes the descriptions do match. I'll add the recipes, but leave the "not available" notes. TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:52, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Are the Glowing spiders actually bright enough to light up dark passages? Just curious, Im actually on xbox so I cant use them unless I find a way to hex my gamesave with dlc content (already know how with main game content) 71.168.86.178 05:14, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Also does it actually make a difference if you use Flawless gems, like mentioned in the journal, or no? 71.168.86.178 05:17, 18 February 2013 (GMT)
They're about as bright as carrying a torch, though I think the light color is more yellow than orange. I'm using the Realistic Lighting mod, however, so YMMV. (Without that mod, there's very few places where I find it's dark enough to need a light source. There's two of the Apocrypha areas that are pretty dark, but that's about it.) As for the flawless gems, they just give you two scrolls instead of one. TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:10, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Spider damage[edit]

I'm trying to figure out how much damage spiders do when they explode. The best I can figure out is that there are 6 explosions for each elemental type, which do 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, and 96 damage respectively. Presumably the damage is leveled, but I can't figure out where it decides which leveled explosion to use - e.g. what level you have to be. I suspect it's in the "DLC2EncExplodingSpiderSCRIPT" script, but I'm unable to edit this script (or any of the DB scripts) to see how it works. Does anyone know how to get at this info? It would be nice to add it to this page, if only we could figure out how the leveled system works for these. This would affect everything except the special spiders at the bottom, since the Cloaked spiders apparently also explode when killed. As for the cloaks, they seem to be equivalent to Flame Cloak, Frost Cloak, Lightning Cloak, and Poison Cloak (the effect added by the Ebony Mail), along with 100% resistance to the element in question. TheRealLurlock (talk) 14:45, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

The six stages of explosion are decided by player's level: <10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50 and >=50. 117.5.16.243 12:55, 28 February 2013 (GMT)
Thanks, but can I ask how you found this? Or are you just guessing? I don't want to put anything up on the page unless it's confirmed. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:40, 28 February 2013 (GMT)
I found it from "DLC2EncExplodingSpiderSCRIPT" script which I opened with notepad.117.5.17.192 16:02, 24 March 2013 (GMT)

Quiet Casting/Detection[edit]

I was just wondering if anyone has observed if the effect of the quiet casting perk applies when using the spider scrolls, and if the spiders movement (and sound) contributes to detection by hostiles 69.171.163.85 22:21, 6 June 2013 (GMT)

Affected by Destruction Damage Increases?[edit]

While they aren't cast as spells, it would be useful to know whether or not the damage inflicted by the spiders are affected by damage increases associated with their relevant elements, (IE: Destruction Perks, Temporary Effects, ect). While I'm guessing this is not the case as the scrolls spawn a living entity, it would be useful to know what if any perks/bonuses have either an adverse or beneficial effect on the Spider Scrolls. I would test this myself, however as I play on the 360, it is very difficult to judge damage increases...... Gamer3427 (talk) 23:30, 27 July 2014 (GMT)

Oil Spider Scrolls[edit]

I should probably bring this to the forums though a couple bits may be of relevance here. I've experimented quite a bit with the oil spider scrolls and they can be extremely deadly (not to mention fun). A couple of notes: The oil spiders level with player lockstep (I tested beyond level 250 using the console), which augments their health (and durability). The longer they survive, the more oil they're able to secrete and the more massive the explosion. Unfortunately there reaches a point where the explosion will inevitably crash the game (more precisely, it freezes/locks up). Has anyone else experienced this? Respawning Spider Eggs[edit]

I've found 2 egg sacks "in the wild" which respawn (looted them three times so far). They are exactly west of Highpoint Tower, on an imaginary line linking the icons of Raven Rock and Brodir Grove. The notes section seems to siggest that only the pods found near the Kynareth Shrine should respawn, so am I "victim" of a bug or were those egg sacks forgottenin the note? 78.113.149.149

I think there are a few other locations where you can get these pods and they respawn too. Such as Fort Frostmoth. 192.80.133.72 00:34, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Kynareth Shrine Pod won't respawn[edit]

Is it just me or does this pod not respawn for anyone else, at least when waiting 10 in game days? I think the location is said to respawn 10/30 days but I would have thought that was contingent on clearing Bloodskal Barrow, which I haven't yet. Let me know if there's something I'm missing - otherwise I guess I won't be able to make a fun spider themed build too easily. -JDizzle (talk) 08:40, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Mind Control Spider level cap?[edit]

According to various sources Tsun should be susceptible to the Mind Control Spider, for me the level 100 version of him is not. Could this be due to a level cap on the spider? 45.94.211.123 18:31, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Did some testing, using the console to set his level to 10 doesn't resolve the issue, but unlike with Arngeir I'm not getting a popup that he 'resisted'. So the question remains. What exactly determines if an NPC is susceptible to the Mind Control Spider? 45.94.211.123 21:53, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
