Combat Glitch

Regarding the glitch in which Serana can get stuck in combat mode ("weapons" drawn, won't move or talk) it seems to be specifically a result of having her drain life spell interrupted due to her last target dying. Often the spell's visual effect will continue indefinitely as well. If the target is killed when she's using other attacks she seems to return to normal without problem, but draining life when the combat ends causes her to get stuck, particularly if she isn't the one to deal the killing blow. Anyway, this is what I've observed so I just wanted to see if anyone else can confirm so the bug can be updated to specifically refer to her drain life ability. -- Haravikk (talk) 16:51, 19 November 2012 (GMT)

Another possible fix for this would be to damage her untill she crouches in 'dying' mode, then just let her stand up again. otherwise you'd have to do that whole battle with the falmer and chaurus all over. — Unsigned comment by 84.195.237.196 (talk) at 09:54 on 31 March 2013‎
Already on the page. Vely►t►e 17:35, 31 March 2013 (GMT)
I find that simply shield bashing her is enough to knock her out of the drain life loop. Doesn't work for the sneak bug, which seems to have something to do with her habit of using furniture while I'm sneaking around, I find that loitering near usable furniture outside of sneak mode until she uses something solves that one fairly well. Your results may vary. Earthfiredrake (talk) 08:29, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

She keeps turning me into a vampire

It seems to happen whenever I'm near something she's resurrecting. It's happened twice now. Both times we were fighting Draugr, so they couldn't have given it to me. The screen just suddenly goes pink and it tells me to feed to lower my blood lust. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm also already a werewolf so shouldn't that prevent this from happening? Happening on the Xbox 360 74.15.8.147 02:58, 25 November 2012 (GMT)

I have solved this problem, at least for me. I had Serana as a companion since Dawnguard, through Homefire, and now into Dragonborn. She was the BEST and then all of a sudden every time she used her Drain Vitality power near me, I had the screen go pink and tell me to feed...etc...I racked my brain as to *something* that had changed recently and I remembered that like all followers, I thought Serana needed to carry healing potions, etc for herself. One of the potions I had given her was the Potion of Blood, which is a potion that heals vampires. I thought that would be a good thing, instead it seemed to keep her Drain Vitality strong enough to infect me every time. I traded items with her, took the Potion of Blood away from her (along with the other potions, actually) ......and PRESTO....she is my beloved Serana again. This was driving me nuts, she's far and away my favorite and I could find no solution on the Internet. As far as I know, I'm the first to post this, so if it helps.......go for it.
Disclaimer: This worked for me because every time she did this, I would go back and load a save that occured right before she infected me. I don't know how this would affect someone who has let this go on.
--Mogohoncho (talk) 19:45, 25 December 2012 (GMT)
Aha! I think that must be it, as I had also gave her some. Her using it must trigger the event where it lowers your blood lust (had you been a vampire) or something of the sort. 69.157.21.161 17:16, 26 December 2012 (GMT)
Same experience here. I had wondered whether I was accidentally getting between her and her target when she was using a Drain Life spell, but she used one of the Potion of Blood around that time. 174.6.51.17 03:03, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
I've been searching the internet for days trying to find a solution to my problem. I was having the same issue...started to play one day and realized I was a vampire. I was VERY confused as to how this happened because my beast blood should have granted me immunity to vampirism. However, I progressed to a full blown vampire AS WELL as a werewolf, and it's been quite annoying. I didn't want this character to have vampirism. I've tried going back to Falion to cure me...but the option isn't there. I'm wondering if the game isn't recognizing that I'm a vampire? Because the option for Serana to turn me is still there. I'd be so happy if I could find a way to fix this...can't mod it since I'm on an xbox. — Unsigned comment by 96.125.52.37 (talk) at 17:43 on 15 February 2013
If Serana turned you into a vampire by accident and Falion does not offer to heal you, ask Serana to turn you. Than go back to Falion, the option to being cured should reappear (worked for PC). — Unsigned comment by 109.90.2.11 (talk) at 13:45 on 19 February 2013‎

Serana Marriage Dialogue?

I realize that Serana will refuse any marriage proposal, but the dialogue option won't even show up for me, even though I've completed Dawnguard's main quest, have spoken to Maramal about marriage, my character (obviously) hasn't been married yet, and I am wearing an Amulet of Mara when speaking to her. Additional info: I'm on Xbox 360, and I convinced her to cure herself of Vampirism. I don't know if those 2 things would make a difference, but you never know. — Unsigned comment by 71.196.239.70 (talk) at 08:37 on 25 November 2012‎

When she commented to me about marriage, I was already married. She does have dialogue specifically for those who are married when asking her about marriage (xx013792) but you should still be able to get the other marriage dialogue without being married. The initial question does require that you have an Amulet of Mara equipped, but it also has two other conditions involving the DLC1NPCMentalModel quest record (which determines how/when many of Serana's dialogue and actions are used) and I don't really understand those conditions myself. Someone would have to dig into that DLC1NPCMentalModel data to figure this out. I'll mark this as a "good question" so hopefully someone better with game data comes along to help with this. — ABCface 22:46, 25 November 2012 (GMT)
I also never get the marriage dialogue option. Perhaps it has something to do with a dialogue option (occurs just after you enter the secret entrance to the courtyard to find her mother. Chasing Echoes quest.) that talk about loneliness, first her loneliness then my loneliness. Some way along the line that she asks: "Are you too... lonely?" There will be 3 options. 1st one is: I have a wife... 2nd one is: I try not to rely on anyone. 3rd is: I have a lot of good friends. I chose the first one. Then I get to talk about whether I have happiness with my wife or not. I chose the option: I am not close to my wife any more. Then she sympathised with me and say I deserved to be happy. This whole dialogue talking about loneliness and wife might effectively cause the marriage option not to appear later on.
Edit: Okay, I just looked back to my savefile just after Beyond Death. Indeed you need to wear an Amulet of Mara to get the marriage option. — Unsigned comment by 115.132.75.108 (talk) at 03:46 on 30 November 2012‎
I did have an amulet of Mara, but I never had the conversation with Serana about loneliness, so that could be the reason I'm not getting the dialogue option. I don't have an earlier save for the character in question, so I'll have to test it with a different character. Or if someone else knows whether that conversation has anything to do with Serana's marriage dialogue option, that'd be great. — Unsigned comment by 71.196.239.70 (talk) at 06:44 on 2 December 2012‎
To get the refusal dialogue, when she ask about our family answer i grew up alone, then choose i have a lot friends, speak with her again and there's a new dialogue about lonely, then choose the option, i'm glad to have you here, now wear amulet of mara and there's a new dialogue about marriage, well you know the rest, she'll refuse because had bad memory about temple, etc. — Unsigned comment by 222.124.59.243 (talk) at 14:07 on 2 December 2012‎
Also, one requirement for marriage, as i recall from another post, is the spouse-to-be cannot have a unique voice actor. This is also why you cannot marry Esbern, Arngeir, Ulfric Stormcloak, General Tullius, Paarthurnax, and others. VycDarkshadow (talk) 19:09, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
It is correct that the loneliness dialogue must be triggered for the marriage dialogue to be presented, PC players can set this with setpapyrusquestvar **002b6e mentionedloneliness_var 2 and any value higher - ** is usually 02 124.149.186.86 13:47, 14 December 2012 (GMT)

She's also not in the potential marriage faction, which is another requirement to be able to marry someone. Arthmoor (talk) 10:24, 17 December 2012 (GMT)

() To be clear, this discussion is not about how to get Serana to marry you. It's about how to trigger the dialogue she has related to marriage.— ABCface 15:21, 17 December 2012 (GMT)

Off-topic, but I think there are other far more practical reasons why you can't marry Paarthurnax... TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:18, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
Ok, I think I have solved our little problem here. Open up the (~) menu and click on Serana. Type addtofaction 19809 0. Then type setrelationshiprank player 1. Then type setpapyrusquestvar 02002b6e mentionedloneliness_var 5. This allowed me to initiate the loneliness dialogue needed to ask her about marriage later. I was able to propose using an amulet of Mara right after ending the first conversation after telling her that I "try not to rely on others" or some such nonsense. I hoped this helps you guys. This problem can be maddening for those of us with OCD like me. — Unsigned comment by 108.16.62.154 (talk) at 06:12 on 3 January 2013
Another dialogue option, from reading DLC1NPCMentalModel (Asking about marriage, then following up with "wanting to talk about it"), she is also supposed to say "I care for you. Alot. Something something I will always follow you" then follows to say the reason with the temple. Don't get me wrong, it is still a refusal, but a much... lighter and caring one. Anyone know the conditions for these lines? — Unsigned comment by 96.51.57.214 (talk) at 09:02 on 11 January 2013
From what I can tell at a glance, that dialog string is unused and can't be accessed normally. Seems like that and the 'you're great, really!' line were meant to be two possible results of the same dialog for characters with a high and average/low relationship value respectively, but no condition was ever added to make that happen, so it just picks the first one by default. 118.209.100.147 23:19, 15 January 2013 (GMT)
Its a damn shame, I would have rather gotten that response than the default one as the default seems more like a direct refusal. The "I care for you. Alot" refusal seems more like a problem with her history with temples and blessings rather than a personal problem with the character. --96.51.57.214 07:45, 16 January 2013 (GMT)
You could probably fix it with a tiny bit of modding, if it bugs you. The unused dialog string is fully voiced. 118.209.100.147 13:14, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

() FIXED: This can be changed by deleting the "Your great. Really." dialogue using the Creation Kit (PC) through the characters dialogue options. Worth the extra tinkering around. --96.51.57.214 19:22, 25 January 2013 (GMT)

Serana Still Disappearing

I have tried the "fix" people suggested the first time; that is, i tried doing prid 03002b74 (03 is my LO) then player.moveto 03002b74. I was transported to the the exact spot you stand when you activate the elder scroll and learn dragonrend, however she was not there. I did indeed have her with me when i did that scene and now that i think about it, it was where i last remember her. I also tried player.placeatme, but that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? — Unsigned comment by 138.67.78.179 (talk) at 08:53 on 27 November 2012‎

use prid 03002b74 and then moveto player, this should make her move to you rather then jumping you to a different spot. player.moveto xxx moves you to them, doing prid then 'moveto player' moves them to you. If the character is 'under' the map then you may end up being moved to the exact location on the map above them. — Unsigned comment by 174.31.71.160 (talk) at 10:16 on 30 November 2012‎

To Fix the problem you are all having in Soul Cairn

Yes, this glitch is annoying, but it's easily fixed by attacking Serana and walking away from her until she follows then "resetAI" her character model and voila! she follows you again. I, too, had tried (player.placeatme 2002b6c) which works but opens up a whole new problem...no dialogue, no follow. I assume everyone is having the same issue in Soul Cairn by the large soul gem and she won't go down the stairs I fus her until she fights me and then I walk backwards making sure she is following until she breaks her habitual glitch and "resetAI" in console. done and done. — Unsigned comment by 74.80.61.96 (talk) at 04:32 on 30 November 2012‎

Part of the "player.placeatme" problem is that console command creates a NEW Serana, based off her creation data. It does not bring the PRESENT Serana to you. VycDarkshadow (talk) 19:12, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
I actually did the full Fus Ro Dah and blew her outside of the building. That made her follow me again. — Unsigned comment by 66.91.48.115 (talk) at 19:47 on 15 December 2012‎

What's wrong with Serana?

I'm in Alftand for "Discerning the Transmudane" quest and Serana is my follower (getting dragon Elder Scroll). Serena is acting as if she nearly died (the way essential NPC act when you tried to kill them) but she is not healing and getting up. I don't seem to be able to heal her with the "Necromantic Healing" spell. This is a bummer because she is not following me nor fighting. I had to use "moveto player" several times now. I'm wondering is this is because she is a vampire and needs blood. Does anyone know what is wrong with her?

BTW "prid 02002b74" works for me and Dawnguard is the first DLC to load. Maeve4444 (talk) 04:06, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
Fixed her using console command "recycleactor". I tried "resethealth" and "restoreactorvalue health 100" -- both did NOT work, that is, nothing changed. Also, should note that I had to use "moveto player" (not sure where she went when recycled), now she is normal again. I am still curious if it was something to do with her being a vampire. Also, I should note that she no longer has the weapons etc I gave her.Maeve4444 (talk) 05:05, 3 December 2012 (GMT)
"recycleactor" gives her her default gear, and takes everything else off her. That was to be expected. VycDarkshadow (talk) 19:13, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
I was having a problem where, whenever we crossed a cell border (IE went through a door, fast travel, etc) she would start walking backwards, then would get stuck. I followed your steps (recycleactor then moveto player) and she started walking back out of the area. She then stopped and froze, and wouldn't talk to me. I used Unrelenting Force, and now she's working fine. Just thought I'd share. — Unsigned comment by 70.67.3.196 (talk) at 17:38 on 31 December 2012‎

Follower exploit with Serana ends after Ancestor Glade?

The official Serana page on UESP says you can bring any other humanoid follower in addition to Serana to fight against Harkon. Then this will glitch Serana to follow you as the 2nd companion forever. My party consists of Lydia, Serana, and I. Lydia is forced to leave the party whenever I enter the Ancestor Glade while the Unseen Visions quest is active. After Lydia leaves, I am unable to recruit Lydia (or other humanoid followers) to join. They will always say something along the line of "It seems you already have someone with you." Essentially, the Serana follower glitch somehow ends after you enter Ancestor Glade during the Unseen Vision quest. How else then can you exploit the Serana follower glitch and bring Lydia along with Serana to fight against Harkon, as said by the UESP page? — Unsigned comment by 96.41.12.206 (talk) at 00:18 on 6 December 2012‎

I read it deals with going to the balcony, leaving and recruiting someone else, then returning to the balcony and resuming that particular quest. Haven't tried it, as i feel one follower gets in the way enough, i'd crit-almost-kill two on a regular basis. VycDarkshadow (talk) 19:15, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
At the end of 'Touching the Sky', she'll freeze again after the boss is killed. Make sure to loot the boss, but fast travel out to grab another follower, than fast travel back to the Forgotten Vale. Use the portal to reach the base of the castle and quickly run back up. When you talk to Gelebor again, Serana will run back down and you'll be 3 again. — Unsigned comment by 24.59.72.231 (talk) at 08:19 on 10 December 2012‎
I somehow managed to do it just by entering the Undercroft of Castle Volkihar with J'zargo in tow...whereas I saw her in the Volkihar Ruins last with Valerica after she came back from the Soul Cairn, she just suddenly appears after engaging some re-spawned Death Hounds. I guess it also has to do with how much in-game time has passed after clearing out certain 'dungeons' in the game, as the last time I told her "It's time for us to part ways", she said she would head to Darkfall Cave & wait there. I don't really mind having her as a 2nd Follower, as she's one of the best that the game has to offer! WintersetAltmer (talk) 00:24, 4 March 2013 (GMT)

"Face stacking" bug - moved from article

If you have the horrible face mask stacking, turn into a vampire lord and revert then get yourself cured. Then go into battle with Serana, get hit by her 'drain life' spell so that you gain some vampire skills without becoming a true vampire (Champion of the Night, Nightstalker's Footsteps and Weakness to Fire) then get infected by a regular vampire. After you get infected, wait till you become a vampire, then have Serana bite you. This should prevent the face mask stacking.

I am moving this to the talk page because I have no idea what "face stacking" is, and can't intelligently clean this entry up. Can somebody reword this to make it more understandable? --Xyzzy Talk 16:50, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Serana gives up following the player up/down really easily

Serana seems to behave differently to other followers when following the player, in that she will sometimes make great detours when faced with a cliff as high as five centimeters.

I'm standing at the entrance of Mzinchaleft with her right now (the first set of walls, not the door proper). There's a tiny stair with three steps, then another step. She will follow me up the three steps but as soon as I step on the fourth, she stops following me. If I then move a little further away from her this puts her into "route around" mode, like when you're dropping down cliffs and your follower looks at you for the first second and then just gives up and runs down the path and around the mountain. To clarify, I do not need to jump to reach these steps, I just walk into them like with standard stairs.

This also happened at Ustengrav near the Word Wall; there are a few "platforms" in the area, you can drop down them to reach ore veins and whatnot. She even followed me when I dropped down ~ 1.5m to a platform but not five centimeters to the next platform; then she got stuck because that next platform was the only exit without fall damage. I did not have the full Unrelenting force then, so I crossed my fingers, finished the ruin, fast travelled to her "home base" at Fort Dawnguard, waited for a few days and she showed up, so her AI package did not freeze or anything, she just seems not to be able to pathfind.

This hasn't happened at all with other followers that I can remember, or maybe I didn't notice. In any case, if this can be confirmed, there should be a warning on Serana's page, or on the Followers page if this is universal.

I'm using the Fixed Followers Lite mod, but AFAICT this doesn't concern followers from Dawnguard or other mods, only vanilla, and it's not supposed to change their pathfinding anyway. 82.234.243.203 13:21, 29 December 2012 (GMT)

I have noticed this as well, and I'm playing on XBox. --Morrolan (talk) 19:16, 31 December 2012 (GMT)
I find she often stops part of the way up the spiral stairs in towers when she brushes against a minor outcropping on the wall. 174.6.51.17 03:06, 14 January 2013 (GMT)

Silent Roll

You know how Serana occasionally gets stuck in sneak mode? For the first time, I noticed that if you run away so she has to catch up quickly, she'll execute a glitchy Silent Roll that looks like she skips along on her head for a couple frames before landing upright. Probably not worth noting in the article, but it's pretty hilarious to watch. =D SonGoharotto (talk) 03:33, 4 January 2013 (GMT)

That only happens when she's already gotten stuck in sneak mode, I think. It happens to her an awful lot. And yes, it's hilarious to watch. --Morrolan (talk) 02:18, 25 January 2013 (GMT)

Potion Use

Like some other magic-using NPC, Serana will chew through magicka potions quite rapidly in heavy combat. My subjective feeling is that the extra magicka does make her more destructive. She does not use ordinary health potions, obviously, since she's undead, but as noted above, if you are human and want to stay that way, it seems to be dangerous to give her the vampiric health potion Potion of Blood -- she tends to turn you into a vampire "accidentally" after imbibing one of those. 174.6.51.17 03:11, 14 January 2013 (GMT)

Serana's, "Wait Here, Come With Me and Convincing her to get cured Issues"

Xbox 360 - After doing a brutal amount of testing (12 long play thoughts), if anyone else is having problems with Serana's "wait here" and "come with me" commands, and after finishing the quest-line convincing her to get cured "kills of any engaged dialogue".. here is a tested and tried way to bypass the issues.

  • Save the game every so often. (To keep track of if the bug comes up)
  • At some points in the quest she will speak but not get into a dialogue (perfectly normal)

Points of dialogue lockout :-

1. During the search in Valerica lab looking for the soul cairn items, (Dialogue reopens once the portal is open)

2. In the Soul Cairn when told to kill the keepers (Dialogue reopens once the elder scroll has been picked up)

3. After killing Arch-Curate Vyrthur (Dialogue reopens once you've picked up Auriel's Bow)

4. After convincing her to get cured (Dialogue reopens once she returns to Fort Dawnguard)

  • The Following is a list of best times to make a back-up save incase "Come with me" option doesn't appear or asking her to follow you once she's been cured

1A. Before entering the Volkihar Ruins (Back of the castle) - "Come with me disappears" 1B. After finishing the Soul Cairn And returning to Valerica's Lab - "come with me reappears and works"

2A. After first entering Darkfall Cave from Skyrim - "Come with me" disappears once again 2B. After speaking to Serana Upon Picking up Auriel's Bow's - "Come with me" reappears again

After the above start and finish points when you should avoid asking her to wait had passed Serana should keep the "Come with me" options.

((Although most of the time Serana refuses to leave, Come with me should stay open, although i would avoid saying "Part ways" until the end of the quest-line))

3A. Before Convincing Serana to get cured - would be a good thing to save just incase 3B. After meeting her back at Fort Dawnguard she with luck should allow come with me option once shes human --RollingRhino (talk) 02:38, 3 February 2013 (GMT)

serana wont talk to me.

i really need help. i have finished the dawngaurd a really long time ago but i want serana for a companion she wont go into interactive dialog with me though, she just keeps saying things like:"hey" or "need something?"i dont wanna go back and just try again because that was fifty levels ago and i have done alot since. — Unsigned comment by 75.11.37.100 (talk) at 05:51 on 4 February 2013

looks you got the same bug has i had sadly,,, unless beth~ patches the fix theres no current full-fix for it
looks like you'll have to start the game again if you want to keep (cured) serana has your follower.
but for all its worth when you start a new game, follow the steps in my above post ""Serana's, "Wait Here, Come With Me and Convincing her to get cured Issues""", and you'll manage or least 80% sure that she will retain all dialogue. (you thankfully wont have to keep starting again 12 times like i did to find the best ways to fix this problem, so if you manage to follower the steps you should have no problems after, pm me when ya re-finish dawnguard and let me know if its worked for you, good luck) --RollingRhino (talk) 22:42, 4 February 2013 (GMT)
Had this same issue, and I think I've nailed it down. At least, this worked for me. I think the dialog getting locked out is related to the LockedIn_var issue noted on the wiki page. I apparently bypassed the no dialog problem by issuing the "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var False" command in the console before I followed the dialog that sends her off to get herself cured. When I talked to her later back in Fort Dawnguard I could issue the follow order w/o problems. One thing I noticed is "Come with me" is the only dialog option I had available after the short chat about her being human again. So without taking care of the LockedIn_var problem first it makes sense that you wouldn't get any dialog options at all since there really aren't any as far as Skyrim is concerned.
Using the LockedIn_var fix after she's cured doesn't appear to fix the no dialog problem (I tried). There must be a flag (variable) in there somewhere that prevents her dialog options from changing when she's not an active follower. Maybe waiting for something to reset would accomplish the same thing, didn't try it. Not a modder. — Unsigned comment by 24.14.18.15 (talk) at 05:38 on 13 February 2013‎

Ghost Flag

We currently have the following bug:

If you bring Serana back to Dimhollow Cavern, she may become totally immune to any attacks.

Are we sure that this is the cause. In the quest DLC1_BF_DunTempleQST at stage 700 (related to Touching the Sky) there is a line Alias_Serana.GetActorRef().SetGhost(true) and I see nothing undoing this. About the fix - I did finish the college quest line, and Serana has still the ghost flag set. I can't find the code that should do that, so not sure if that would only work if she is a current follower during the (?The Eye of Magnus?) quest - can't remember anymore. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:43, 5 February 2013 (GMT)

I can confirm the glich on xbox, going to Dimhollow Crypt can cause Serana to get a ghost flag and become immune to all damage and spell effects even detect life/dead, the giltch fixed itself after I did Kindred Judgment so it's not permanent.Wrath425 (talk) 19:05, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
I tried everything I could think of to get rid of this bug on Xbox - turning her human, taking her back to Dimhollow Crypt, defollowing her and following her again in Dimhollow Crypt, even deleting and reinstalling Dawnguard--nothing works. While having her unable to be harmed is useful, it makes the game too easy.Hopefully they'll address this in a later patch. — Unsigned comment by ‎ 69.255.145.146 (talk) at 16:18 on 18 April 2013
Based on what has been reported here, are we sure this is a bug? Certain followers do become invulnerable at certain points during their associated quests, which can be exploited for other purposes (e.g. Mercer Frey)). If so, this would fall under the category of exploit rather than bug. Maybe Serana's ghost flag is set during Touching the Sky, then removed during Kindred Judgment. --Xyzzy Talk 19:38, 18 April 2013 (GMT)

Serana + Dawnbreaker + ...Dragonborn?

I've had Serana for a follower for a while now, and my weapon of choice against the undead has been Dawnbreaker, for obvious reasons. This was never a problem until recently. Serana was never affected by the explosions it creates when I killed undead. But now, having just installed Dragonborn (though something else could be the cause), I'm noticing that at least sometimes, Dawnbreaker's explosions cause her to run away and cower in a corner if she's too close. Oddly, her reanimated corpses never seem to be affected, but Serana herself sometimes is. I've also got Barbas following me around, which may be related. I first noticed it during the Temple of Miraak quest when Frea was also following me. I'm wondering if having too many followers has something to do with it? I haven't yet done the Soul Cairn with this character - was planning on doing that trick where you can get a second permanent follower in addition to Serana. I'm now wondering if this would be a bad idea. I'm also playing this character as a Dawnguard instead of a vampire, which may be relevant. Don't think I've got any mods that affect this, just the unofficial patches maybe. Anyone else seeing this? TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:45, 9 February 2013 (GMT)

It's happening to me too, and has nothing to do with too many followers, and it started when I installed Dragonborn. I have no other mods and she was my only followers. I like the fact that it affects your follower as well, since the purpose of the Dawnbreaker is to affect all undead, but unfortunately, that means I can't use the sword anymore.96.52.125.82 00:12, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

before soul cairn bug

i am having this bug where when i get to velericas study i cant go any further it bugs out and ends bassically i load my game and everything she just follows me around and wont advance in the quest telling me find velericas journal she just keeps saying were getting close please help. — Unsigned comment by 24.21.63.239 (talk) at 09:50 on 17 February 2013‎

Me too I'm having this very frustrating bug! She won't advance to the quest and all she says was "We're getting close I'm sure of it". We're already at Valerica's Study but she just follows me around yapping about we're getting close. — Unsigned comment by 121.54.47.34 (talk) at 05:19 on 18 February 2013
This is happening to me also, it's getting annoying having her follow me and moaning that we're close when we're already there. It's like a child asking in a car are we there yet...
Anyone know how to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 81.131.204.187 (talk) at 10:20 on 25 February 2013‎
It looks like this issue may have been addressed and resolved in the comments above, such as this one Darictalk 22:46, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Marriage Dialogue

Can someone dig into CSList/CK and find out when Serana's non-marriage dialogue actually becomes available? A recent edit has questioned the accuracy of the note. --Xyzzy Talk 06:53, 4 March 2013 (GMT)

Sorry for the wall of text, but I've been doing some testing on this. I didn't dig directly into the CSList/CK, but some tedious testing has revealed that the marriage option becomes available after certain conversation criteria are met with Serana. Specifically, the dialogue branch with the tag, "You talk about being lonely a lot," must be triggered and completed in order to activate the marriage option. The earliest I have been able to trigger this option is immediately after the start of the quest Chasing Echoes. I have managed this in one of two ways:
Immediately after the start of this quest Serana offers the conversation, "Tell me about your family." During this branch, she will ask you about yours. If you claim that you never knew your parents, it will immediately activate the above branch. This can be done in Dawnguard Keep immediately after initializing Chasing Echoes, and will activate the marriage dialogue. I have gotten this to repeat every time.
Alternatively, I have also been able to select the option, "We don't get along," followed by "Nobody hears much from them anymore." After this, journeying to Volkihar Keep as part of the quest and entering the Undercroft will bring up the dialogue branch, "Did you spend a lot of time down here?" Selecting the "That must've been lonely" path here can trigger the needed dialogue branch. *However*, in some playthroughs this route will NOT activate the "You talk about being lonely a lot" branch, and I have yet to figure out why. I'd made sure to select the same dialogue options except at this branch across multiple playthroughs and still haven't found the trigger for this issue. If you do not get the option of marriage by the time you pass through the Undercroft, you have missed the opportunity to trigger it on that playthough
TL;DR The marriage option becomes available, at earliest, during Chasing Echoes, mediated through dialogue choices, but only one dialogue tree seems to work all the time. — Unsigned comment by 156.111.133.169 (talk) at 18:47 on 6 March 2013
I did what was said above, it's confirmed. Talking to Serana while being in the Undercroft during the quest Chasing Echoes is the earliest you can get the dialogue option to marry Serana. — Unsigned comment by GingerPowder (talkcontribs) at 22:23 on 27 March 2013‎
I've tried digging through the CSList dialogue tree for this, and had to give up. If two people are confirming that it can happen during Chasing Echoes, that'll have to be good enough until someone can decipher this. --Xyzzy Talk 23:13, 27 March 2013 (GMT)
It can happen during Chasing Echoes, or later. You can get the non-marriage dialogue after the Dawnguard questline is complete as well, which is when I got it. --Morrolan (talk) 01:19, 8 April 2013 (GMT)

Still has Drain Life when not a Vampire

The main article says that she will not use Drain Life once she is no longer a vampire, this is false. --124.168.103.82 11:30, 6 March 2013 (GMT)

Interferes with getting the dwarven spider/dwarven sphere follower

If you have Serana as your follower in Dragonborn when clearing Kagrumez, neither the Steadfast Dwarven Spider nor the Steadfast Dwarven Sphere will agree to follow you. In other words, the game classifies her as a dog at this point. 174.6.51.17 02:21, 8 March 2013 (GMT)

Well, that's not true. I had Serana with me the whole time I was doing Dragonborn, and it didn't prevent me from getting the Sphere follower. Is it possible you've got a dog (or other animal) follower that you told to wait at home? It still counts as a follower if you tell it to wait. You have to actually dismiss it for it not to be counted as a follower any more. Not sure about what happens if your adopted kids take it as a pet. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:39, 8 March 2013 (GMT)
TRL, the animal adopted becomes a resident at your family home and you can recruit and dismiss them from/to there. --Crayolamanic (talk) 02:14, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Okay, but either way then, if you tell it to wait, it's technically still your follower, in that it prevents you from getting another animal follower. I'm pretty sure there's no way Serana is preventing the OP from getting a pet. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:47, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
I've never had a dog follower, so I hadn't told it to wait at home, or anywhere. On the other hand, although I don't remember clearly, I may have become king of that tribe of Rieklings before doing this quest, and although I have never asked any of them to follow me, and never saw any of them during this quest, I've turned around on occasion to find one to three of them in my wake, even on the mainland (they look rather odd in a place like Solitude, I must say). So the Rieklings may have been the problem. 174.6.51.17 06:23, 18 March 2013 (GMT)

Vampire Lord Vampiric Drain Glitch

Though it is listed on the Vampire Lord page I thought it would be beneficial to list here as well, under Bugs section. Feel free to word it better or remove if you think it shouldn't be included here.

  • While Serana is your follower if you use Vampiric Drain as a Vampire Lord the spell's damage decreases dramatically. This is a result of a condition on the Damage Health effect of the spell; if Serana is following you, the Damage Health effect will be reduced to zero points for all levels of the spell and only the Drain Health, Magicka, and Stamina will take effect.

Serana stops following after completing chasing echoes

I've encountered a variation of the not following glitch, where I enter the soul cairn and Serana enters too, but then promptly heads back out and Beyond Death doesn't start. Used the console to make her move to me and she just turns around and heads back out. No dialogue options. I remembered that I had asked her to part ways during the prophet quest, and then asked her to come with me again before heading to castle volkihar. Reloading to before I asked her to part ways and going through a ton of stuff again fixed it. — Unsigned comment by 149.125.193.252 (talk) at 18:22 on 9 May 2013‎
