Glitch[edit]

If you talk to her once (but don't mention the Brotherhood), she will subsequently say she's busy and no longer start a conversation with you - preventing you from bringing up the Dark Brotherhood and starting a fight that way (by far the easiest way to kill her, since there's no legal hassles). Additionally, even if nobody sees you kill her and you don't get a bounty, the local guards will become hostile the moment they see you, even if you wait for 24h - which stops you from simply sneak-shooting her from behind the buildings. 124.170.15.129 00:06, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

The note about killing her and the guards automatically knowing it was you applies when she is outdoors, near the smelter - I never tried indoors, but I assume it doesn't happen then. 124.170.15.129 00:08, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
The guards do come after you if you kill her indoors. I picked her lock and attacked while she was sleeping, and I got a bounty of 1000 gold and guards came in to get me. — Unsigned comment by 174.252.24.100 (talk) at 18:09 on 27 November 2011
Man I sniped he from the top of the mountain and the guards still became hostile. I think it's a glitch related to the "I know who you are, hail Sithis" comment made by guards after you join the dark brotherhood. — Unsigned comment by Artemis Enterei (talkcontribs) at 01:29 on 21 December 2011
You can kill Beitild in her house at night by remaining crouched/hidden while you do so. This will keep the guards from realizing that you killed her. — Unsigned comment by 205.153.87.51 (talk) at 04:17 on 26 December 2011
Sometimes when using the 2nd dialogue option to provoke her, she will not become aggressive. She will visibly equip the pickaxe but will not initiate an attack and will refuse to speak again. Attacking her will still add bounty. However, the bounty can be ignored if you are the thane of Dawnstar. — Unsigned comment by 211.28.228.67 (talk) at 14:54 on 29 January 2012

() I started the next quest having killed Narfi and Ennodius, but not betild. I then had the option to tell Nazir that I had killed her. I had not. — Unsigned comment by 82.33.28.199 (talk) at 16:54 on 23 May 2012

I also pickled the option that I don't mention the Dark Brotherhood and when she went back home I couldn't kill her. Reloading and not talking to her worked. — Unsigned comment by Owoddenmask (talkcontribs) at 13:16 on 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Easy Stealth Kill[edit]

I climb the mountain next to the place where she works. And despite being very high, it is possible to use arrows to kill. It is very easy to kill in this way, but it's hard to hit because of the distance. Apart from having a poor sneak, nobody will see you. — Unsigned comment by 186.232.46.66 (talk) at 23:01 on 20 October 2012

Easiest Stealth Kill (No Bounty)[edit]

The absolute easiest way to kill Beitild with no bounty is outlined in the following procedure.

First, it is highly recommended you obtain a set of light armor made for sneaking and has boots with an enchantment that muffles the footsteps of the wearer. Two such examples being the Shrouded Armor obtained from the Dark Brotherhood and the Nightingale Armor obtained from the Thieves' Guild.

While wearing the appropriate armor, travel to Dawnstar and wait until around 1 AM. At this time she will be in her home. Make your way to her front door while sneaking. Make sure you are hidden before picking the lock and sliding inside. While hidden, draw your weapons and move slowly to the side of the bed closest to you until it gives you the option to pickpocket her (so you know you're in reach). Launch a power attack that should give you a sneaking bonus attack and kill her almost instantaneously. In this way she dies instantly without seeing you, no guards see you, and thus no bounty is obtained.

A similar approach can be used for all other contracts. For ones outside, make sure that it is midnight or later and dark. While wearing your armor you should be able to sneak up in the same way you did with Beitild and kill them in the same manner. Make sure for the Dark Brotherhood quest line that you continue to wear your sneaking light armor of choice and have no follower. They mess it up for you by alerting your contracts with their movements and, seemingly, acting as a witness and giving you a bounty.

Beitild Prematurely Killed[edit]

So in this one file I'm currently playing, I fast-traveled to Dawnstar and rode my horse over to the hidden merchant chest by the mine. When I headed back toward the Jarl's longhouse, I noticed the guards were acting up. Turns out a Master Vampire and his two Thralls had attacked, but I didn't get any battle music or red dots on my mini-compass. And somehow they managed to kill a guard, Beitild, and her husband Leigelf. Does anyone know if this will cause a bug or glitch in the Dark Brotherhood contract quest? I have not yet joined the Dark Brotherhood, let alone started any contracts, but I worry that I won't be able to complete the quest since Beitild is already dead before the quest begins.

Has anyone come across this problem before, and should I reload the game to try and save her, or see if the vampire attack doesn't happen? Chocoholic (talk) 14:36, 4 November 2014 (GMT)

I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt that it will cause any kind of problem. -- SarthesArai Talk 16:27, 4 November 2014 (GMT)

A Letter From Leigelf[edit]

So I quietly killed Beitild. In case it matters, I snuck up on her, and while sneaking and unseen, using the "Poisoned" perk under Pickpocket, poisoned her. No bounty, chatted with nearby guards afterwards with no problem. Very shortly afterwards, before I had a chance to leave Dawnstar, a courier arrived with a letter for me from her estranged husband Leigelf. The object was titled "Letter from Leigelf" and it read:

*Character Name*,

I know you killed her. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. In fact, I wanted to thank you. she won't be missed.

-- Leigelf

I saw no mention of this letter on the wiki, and was wondering if anyone else had encountered it. When does it show up? When doesn't it show up?

Story-wise, it seems a little less likely to me that Leigelf took out the contract on her if he's writing letters like that; perhaps one of her overworked employees? Gleef (talk) 07:30, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

This is the letter you received. It's part of the World Interaction quest An enemy's gratitude. You received the letter because Beitild and Leigelf have a negative disposition towards each other (they are marked as rivals in the game data). --Oriwa Talk 07:57, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
