Balimunds death[edit]

Just curious if anyone out there knows...at what point does Balimund die? I'm at a VERY late stage in the game (nearly everything completed), and I walk into Riften to unload some stuff I collected, and his apprentice (whose name I can't recall) is running the shop instead. One of his discussion options is "You look awfully young to be a blacksmith" and if you click on it, he explains that Balimund (his old boss) has passed away and he has assumed operation of the blacksmith's shop! Does this also mean that if you marry the guy, that you'll wind up a widower at some point? Or is Balimund just hiding away somewhere and thus this is just another bug? Like I said, just curious...Primeslime 04:46, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

I just got nailed by this as well. I postponed the Marriage achievement to the end of my game, and only Asbjorn Fire-Tamer was present at The Scorched Hammer, and he does state that Balimund is dead. Just prior to this, I completed the Civil War quest line, so I loaded a save prior to starting all that, thinking perhaps he dies in the war. The save I loaded had the Hail Sithis! mission active, and I could not find Balimund there either (I didn't try talking to Asbjorn). So I also don't know what became of Balimund. Hey guys I'm pretty sure I know what happened, you see once in a while a theif will appear in riften and the whole town will attack the theif and sometimes the theif will get a kill or two before dying and some times u don't even know it's happening. this happened with me I was in riften and I see helgas dead body next to a theifs dead body and I had to load a previous save. Hope this helped! — Unsigned comment by 69.242.114.146 (talk) at 20:05 on 8 June 2012
I married Balimund and then went into his house to find him. A thief appeared as I walked in the door. He was hostile so I killed him. I think you are right. 203.91.84.7 11:01, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Balimund works from about 10 am to 12 am but only sells from around 9 am to 8 pm. With the Dawnguard plugin, the chances of him dying increase by like 70% you don't just have the thieves but also the vampire attacks. Sometimes the thieves spawn with the Vampire attacks like in Riverwood where I fought 3 vampires 1 master and like 2 thieves. I would try to reverse pickpocket him but I don't have the perks to do so with my current character. I recommend for anyone with the expansion to remove it until your character is pysically/magically fit to take care of Riften and thus the Blacksmith Balimund. I don't like his apprentice though, a bit dull and boring.--67.185.108.121 18:22, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Asbjorn Fire-Tamer is his son?[edit]

According to the Game Data on Balimund as well as the Game Data on Asbjorn, Asbjorn Fire-Tamer is Balimund's son. Asbjorn's dialogue states that he is an orphan and grew up in Grelod's orphanage; that Balimund took him on as an apprentice. Should the information in that link be seriously considered (since it's game data) and should this be looked into any further (if there is at all anywhere else to look)? Well, there is no relationship "adopted orphan raised like own child", so it got the closest equivalent, "son", in game-data. Balimund will react to anything regarding his adopted son as if it was his real son. -- SarthesArai Talk 22:11, 31 July 2013 (GMT)
That makes lots of sense. Thanks SarthesArai! GodRaineTalk 22:12, 31 July 2013 (GMT)

Not a Merchant anymore?[edit]

So, Balimund got killed by a vampire attack, but I was right there and resurrected him. Now he's not acting as a merchant. I had this happen with the Orc female smith in Riften, and her apprentice took over, even though I respawned her. But this time I did it right away, and the other guy isn't coming out to be a merchant. Is there a way to force Balimund to reset? Or will he get erased when the cell resets and the other guy will take over? FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 07:02, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

By resurrect I take it you mean by console commands? The game has already registered his death so you would need to undo all the changes made because of his death. Balimund being alive might be interfering with the other guy's script, as it likely depends on Balimund's absence to activate, and with Balimund having already lost his scripts you are in limbo. No-one has quite worked out all the scripts needed to restore a merchant, with the safest and most reliable answer being to revert to a older save. Yeah, console. I guess the game called him dead. Half of Skyrim is dead at this point. I guess I should do Dawnguard much earlier next time. As for going back, that wasn't an option. Guess I'll kill him so the other guy will be there. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 02:53, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
