Flowstone Cave is a cave that can be accessed from a Snow Elf portal next to the Inner Sanctum.
Like the portal in Initiate's Rest, it must be activated with the lever next to it, on the left.
Walkthrough[edit]
Interior[edit]
'Shrine of Halalation'[edit]
Once you enter the cave, you will find yourself on a stone platform with two braziers on either side. A curving staircase leads down and to the right, where the ghosts of a Curate and a Prelate pray on their knees at the edge of a pool to a statue of Auri-el. You can attempt to talk to them, but they are too deep in contemplation to notice. Next to the Prelate are two clusters of White Cap and one cluster of Fly Amanita. You can walk up to the statue, but can't interact with it.
Behind the ghosts, on a pedestal, is the Initiate's Halation, a unique Ancient Falmer Crown that functions as armor and has a special enchantment. Just in front of the pedestal is another clump of harvestable Fly Amanita. The ghosts will take no notice when you take the crown for yourself.
Beyond this area, a rough-hewn tunnel lined with bioluminescent plant life leads to a pull-chain door.
Desecrated Shrine[edit]
The next room is a large space with a skylight, centered around a Shrine of Auriel. Several Gleamblossom plants and one Yellow Mountain Flower plant grow around the shrine. The shrine has been festooned with typical pelvis-like Falmer decorations, showing that the Betrayed have made themselves at home. Humanoid skulls and bones are laid around the shrine, further desecrating it.
To the left, two Falmer pods house leveled Falmer warriors. If you approach the shrine, even while undetected, they will emerge from their pods. They are difficult to avoid, and will attack as soon as they have found the intruders.
From here, you can go left and out of the exit tunnel, or explore the final area of the cave to the west.
Upper Level[edit]
If you go up the staircase to the west, it leads to an elevated walkway. Halfway along the walkway, you will pass by Glowing Mushroom clusters. Where the walkway widens into a platform, Falmer have been collecting yet more Glowing Mushrooms in bowls and arranging them near a brazier, which is full of blue-white coals. A boss-level Falmer will be present, attacking you for interrupting their activities.
At the end of the walkway is a natural cavern lit by a skylight, where an unlootable skeleton lies half-buried in front of a chest and next to an Elven Sword. An Elven Shield leans on the wall next to the chest. A hole in the wall looks out over the Desecrated Shrine chamber.
Exterior[edit]
The cave exit opens out in front of the Fishing Supplies near the Wayshrine of Learning.
Notes[edit]
During the quest Touching the Sky, the quest marker may incorrectly direct you to enter Flowstone Cave near the Wayshrine of Learning. While Flowstone Cave does connect the area with the front porch of the Inner Sanctum, there is a pull chain door in the cave that can only be opened from the Sanctum side. Thus, Flowstone Cave cannot be used as a shortcut past the Dragons’ lake to discover new areas, and can only be used to backtrack after reaching the Inner Sanctum.
