Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
My precious...[edit]
Once you have completed several radiant quests for your faction, you'll be directed to speak with your faction leader about their plans. Through a tip-off from an anonymous source, they have learned the location of Aemar Coldblood's final resting place, and with it, the Bloodfire Amulet. The amulet is an ancient symbol of authority among Skyrim's vampires, to say nothing of its enchantment to protect vampiric wearers from the effects of sunlight. Vlkoslak wants the amulet for its symbolic meaning, Jelkar simply wants to stop Vlkoslak from acquiring it, and Ciirta wants to keep it out of both clans' hands while searching for a way to destroy it. As resources are stretched thin, you'll be dispatched to search Iceblood Barrow with only one elder as backup: Narina for Cronvangr players, Agrius for Quarra players, and Bazur for Vigilant players.
Who put out the fire?![edit]
By the time you reach Broken Fang Cave, vampiric rivals will already be there and in battle with the unaligned strays who were using the area as a nest. Once they're all dead, make your way into the lair's boss area and you'll find a new cage door blocking access to a new area. Using the key given to you by your faction leader, unlock the door and enter Iceblood Barrow to find your assigned companion already in the entrance area. Each will have their reasons for doing so, but they will all choose to remain behind and guard the entrance while you delve into the barrow in search of Aemar Coldblood.
Other than the thick layers of ice covering the walls, Coldblood Barrow is the standard Draugr-filled dungeon found across Skyrim, barring the occasional soul gem trap, Frostbite Spider, or Ghost. If you move quickly enough, you'll a mysterious woman standing over the body of the recently-killed Thetrard Bierles, before she teleports away. Next to his body, you'll find a note covered in his blood, which provides more details on Aemar Coldblood. In the next area, you'll come across multiple ghosts and more draugr, until you reach an alter with another note, written by the warriors who killed Aemar as a warning to leave him and the Bloodfire Amulet buried.
Through the large door, you'll find yourself in a final catacomb area leading to Aemar's resting place, blocked by a door sealed with a pillar puzzle. Unlike most pillar puzzles in Skyrim, the pillars are separated into three different parts of the room, and you'll find the correct combination above you as you enter. The correct combination goes from left to right, starting with the first pillar on your left as you enter, then the next two in the crypt area. If pull the chain with the wrong solution in place, it will awaken the draugr in the alcoves. Once it is done, the door will open and you will come face to rotting face with the remains of Aemar Coldblood. Even though he appears as a Dragon Priest, you have a major advantage against him in this fight: all the Draugr in this tomb were not his servants, they were the warriors who gave their lives to end him... and they will gladly do it again. Draugr around the room will wake up and attack Aemar, which will even the odds significantly if not outright kill him, allowing you to claim the Bloodfire Amulet from his corpse and loot the area as you leave.
Rebel Scum[edit]
On your way out, you will be attacked by Rothis Dolovas, seeking to claim the Bloodfire Amulet for himself and abandon the Quarra. Put him down and return to your faction leader, who will allow you to keep the amulet for the foreseeable future. Your companion will be alright, as Rothis dealt with them in a non-lethal manner, which they will comment on if you ask. Speak to the elders about completing more radiant quests, and you will be able to start the third main quest.
Notes[edit]
- In earlier versions, Aemar would've been affected by mods that targeted Dragon Priests in certain ways, such as making them talk. This would lead to confusion about why an ancient vampire lord would be spouting propaganda about Dragons and their Priests.
