Varlais Cavern

Varlais Cavern is a cave containing the Ayleid ruins of Rielle. It is added by The Cause Creation.

The cavern's interior is not actually a separate location, but rather forms part of the first zone of Rielle.

Before it is open

Boards removed

It is located just off the vast temple complex of Arcwind Point, being south along the path from the central sarcophagus and northwest of the round cairn. Mythic Dawn cultists have been digging through the back of the cavern to reach the back wall of the Ayleid tomb of Rielle that abuts it. Consequently, the cave no longer has its own zone and instead of "to Varlais Cavern", you will see "to Rielle" as you approach the entrance. A pickaxe lies atop a crate to the left of the cave opening.

Before a certain point in the quest The Cause added by the Creation, the cave contains a hole in Rielle's now-exposed back wall, but it is boarded up and inaccessible. Whoever left behind pickaxes, wagons, and sacks around the interior of the cave is nowhere to be seen and there are no notes to identify them. The distinctive jingling sounds of Ayleid ruins can be heard from the other side of the wall.

Once the Mythic Dawn Camp at the foot of the Throat of the World nearby has been cleared and notes on the cult's plans discovered, you will be directed to Varlais Cavern where the excavation team has now removed the boards and entered the ruins. None of them will be alive to confront you.

Bugs

• When attempting to fast travel to the Alchemist's Shack while standing outside the entrance of Varlais Cavern, you may end up at Arcwind Point instead. ^?
