Selveni Nethri is a Dark Elf conjurer trapped inside Southfringe Sanctum. When you locate her stuck in a spider's web the miscellaneous quest starts to help her escape the cave.
She wears a pair of boots along with necromancer robes, hooded necromancer robes, robes of Alteration, robes of Destruction, robes of Restoration, or robes of Fortify Magicka Rate. She is armed with a leveled dagger in case of close-quarters fighting (iron, steel, Orcish, dwarven, elven, glass, or an enchanted dagger of any quality from iron to Daedric). If the Necromantic Grimoire Creation is installed, her apparel can vary from the unique robes and hoods that the Creation offers.
In addition to the gear listed above, Selveni also has a small chance to carry potions, poisons, soul gems (including a higher chance for black soul gems above level 20), Novice or Apprentice level spell tomes, ingredients (common, uncommon, or rare), recipes, and a small amount of gold.

Dialogue[edit]
When going through Southfringe Sanctum, you will come across Selveni, stuck in a web. At this point she may call out:
- "You! Please, help me!"
- "Hurry, cut me down!"
- "I want to get to my son [sic]. He's [sic] all I have left."
If spoken to at this point, she will just plead:
- "Please, cut me down!"
When freed from her predicament, Selveni will say:
- "Thanks for getting me out of that. Bashnag's coven chased me out and left me for dead down here. Nobody lasts too long with the spiders. Please, will you help me get out of here? If the coast is clear, I'll make a break for it."
- Can you make it out of here?
- "Bashnag cursed me. I can't cast a spell to save my life right now. I'll have to wait until the way out is safe."
- Coven? What do you mean?
- "Bashnag's circle of mages. We - well "they" live here. They made it pretty clear that I'm no longer welcome."
- Tell me more about the Coven.
- "These are no dainty college mages. Bashnag has the skill of a magister and the mind of a warlord. This is a dangerous bunch. They're good company if you want to study necromancy in peace, though."
- You're a necromancer?
- "I am, and I don't want to hear your moral judgments about it, either. I wouldn't have had to study in secret in the old days."
- Why aren't you part of the coven anymore?
- "I left for a few days in Riften. When I came back Bashnag accused me of trying to sell him out to the Thalmor. I was cursed and chased off."
- Why were you in Riften?
- "My daughter was sent to the orphanage there when I stood accused of illegal necromancy. I had no choice. Run or die. I joined with Bashnag then, but I thought of Savela every day. So I snuck off, hoping to find and steal away with her. Only, she was gone. Shipped away to another orphanage, or adopted, or... I didn't know what else to do, so I came back, hoping nobody noticed I left."
If Bashnag is dead, you can bring her the news:
- Bashnag is dead.
- "He is? I'm not sure how to feel about that. Perhaps it's for the better."
You can also ask her how she's feeling:
- How are you holding up?
- "I'm too weak right now. Between the spiders and the coven, I'd be dead before escaping the cave."
- "I'm feeling better, but Bashnag's curse won't wear off for weeks."
- "I won't be myself for some time. I just need to get out of here and recover."
- It isn't safe. Wait here.
- "Please, let me know if it seems safe to leave."
- The way out is clear. Good luck.
- "Thank you. When I find my daughter, it will be thanks to you."
Notes[edit]
- There are numerous internal references that show many changes to her quest. Originally, it took place in Boulderfall Cave (which is also referred to as Boulderfall Pass), and Selveni was to be a werewolf, rather than a necromancer.
- An unused message internally known as
dunSouthfringeQuestObjective
also refers to this, it reads: "Help Selvani [sic] Nethri escape Boulderfall Pass." The name of this particular message "Pack Animals", might've originally been the name of the quest (as it isn't actually named in the final game's files), and seemingly referred to her lycanthropy.
- An unused message internally known as
- You were meant to ask Selveni "What are you doing there?" in order to first speak with her, but since her line blocks player dialogue, she can't actually be spoken with until she is cut down.
Bugs[edit]
- When first speaking to you, she mentions having a son, but all consequent dialogue refers to a daughter instead.
- The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, version 2.0.6, fixes this bug.
- It is possible for Selveni Nethri to become stuck in the entrance to the cave when releasing her. After "clearing the path" of frostbite spiders, return to Selveni and inform her the way is clear. She will run towards the cave entrance and may pass the exit plane you must use, then stop. This leaves her immediately inside the cave out of reach for talking or moving. To push her out of the cave, you can try any spell or action with has the possibility to ragdoll, making her disappear correctly.
- Sometimes Selveni will become unstuck by herself, but will still ask to be cut down until you destroy the web.
- She may not follow you out of the cave.
- To fix this, enter the cave and re-enter it.
