- Just to clarify for anyone reading this little exchange long after the fact ;) The original comments here were made less than two days after Shivering Isles was released, when adding information was top priority, not formatting; this was the page version. Less than 24 hours later it had been expanded and formatted, probably not because of this editor's comments, but just because all the quests were being expanded and formatted. --NepheleTalk 19:26, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

Burning Desideratus' Doll Twice[edit]
While playing through this quest with my main character, I encountered a strange bug. As it is, the bug seems to make the quest stick. I'll explain in detail below, but it seems to prevent the quest update popping up to inform the player that the third Fanatic ghost is defeated, even after completing all three run and fetch errands. Talking to the Count doesn't give any new options, and definitely doesn't give the dialogue where he's supposed to give you the helm.
Details:
I did the quest in this order: Althel, Hloval, and Desideratus. I had no trouble with Althel or Hloval, though I had to search a bit for something for Hloval. I came across the doll and picked it up thinking it was something to help with Hloval, and it gave me an update basically saying "This must be important, for it is shiny." I finished with Hloval and went on to Desideratus. Lucky I had the doll, or so I thought. He took off with it, then I went to get it back. After that, I went to the Mausoleum and burnt it... and got two quest updates, right after the other. This is where I think the bug comes in.
"Well, I burnt it, now he'll fight."
"I burnt it, but I don't know why I was able to do that."
He reacted the way he should, but... now, for some reason, every time the attack occurs he'll fight off the fanatic, but I don't get an update. So therefore, no update, no Count. I've wandered all over the area and inside Vitharn, but no matter where I am it doesn't trigger the update, no matter how many times the attack repeats.
Has anyone else had this problem, or am I just extremely unlucky? Any solutions other than the complete current quest command?
Anyway, thanks. Didn't know where else to go (I'm not a forum lover). --67.160.134.86 21:17, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
- This is indeed a late post so sorry if it doesn't do much good but i also ran up against this problem but fortunately save frequently so the only advice I can really give is return to previous save, sorry that it may be too little too late --Lavadragon 17:43, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
- If I had the luxury of a close previous save, I wouldn't have posted anything, so that option was already nil. I did find a solution by forcing a single quest update after researching the console commands thoroughly and after determining the quest ID by myself (since it wasn't on the page). It seemed to work fine after that, though. Thanks anyway for for posting :P. Least I know it wasn't just me! 24.20.182.38 12:07, 24 September 2007 (EDT)

- okay so i am in the quest and i gave the doll to a fanatic and got the other two people done with but for some reason it wont tell me the third ghost is dealt with and so i cant progress what should i do?

- Unfortunately I just encountered this bug as well, so I've noted it on the page since it isn't really covered, though I suspect it may be related to the other bug with the doll (where you can burn it even if you don't have it or know anything about it), so I'm unsure, is this possibility also resolved by the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch? --Haravikk 20:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Fix for bug[edit]
The following bug can be fixed on any system with sufficient Acrobatics skill or enough paint brushes.
- An error in the check on the brazier's script will allow Desideratus' doll to be burned before the player has it or even knows of it and cause a near-game-breaking glitch: the Fanatics' leader never shows up for the final battle, making it impossible for you to kill him. Of course, since you are prevented from leaving Vitharn until the quest is completed, this means that you are permanently stuck. To fix this, you must load another save. Another option is to use "setstage SE32 160" in the console to skip to the next stage: the count will exit and congratulate you, ending the quest. When you exit the keep, the Fanatics should attack in short order.
Simply jump or paintbrush over the wall and head north to come to a small enclosed area which stores the ghosts before they're released into the main area. If you're wearing the helmit the leader will automatically try to attack you and therefore get close to the wall. You are able to attack through the wall, so the quest is beatable. — Unsigned comment by 74.78.240.149 (talk) at 21:31 on 24 December 2007
Quest Stage Order[edit]
Are the quest stages shown in the correct order for this quest? It just seems slightly odd that killing a Fanatic Ghost is the first stage, and not a later one. --Merco 14:59, 4 March 2008 (EST)
- As the notes say: "Stages are not always in order of progress". They're always shown in numerical order but can appear in a totally different order. It's all down to the scripting. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 15:54, 4 March 2008 (EST)
Mausoleum[edit]
There is a strange push block in the Mausoleum. Does this do anything? --Matthewest •T•C•E• 00:31, 27 April 2008 (EDT)
- I guess it's a bit late, but if you were talking about the coffins, they just display the message you see. If you're talking about something else, you'll have to point me to it because I don't see any actual "push block"s in the Mausoleum at all, not even in the Construction Set. --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 22:02, 1 March 2009 (EST)
-
- I've found that push Block to and I don't think it does anything but maybe it was intended to at first but then whatever it opened was removed but the button stayed. 66.186.66.3 18:18, 9 August 2013 (GMT)Dunehelm
Doll bug[edit]
Just saying, even if you encounter the bug in which you can burn the doll before you even obtain it (or hear of it), the Fanatic Leader can still show up for the final battle. --Oblivion nerd 22:44, 22 December 2008 (EST)
- Should I add the word "potentially" before saying it causes a game breaking glitch? --Oblivion nerd 17:53, 23 December 2008 (EST)
-
- I encountered this bug on the Xbox 360 but was able to get the Devoted Fanatic to spawn by leaving the Vitharn Bailey cell and re-entering it. One of the doors leaving the area was 'just' a very hard lock, rather than being sealed. --91.84.94.160 17:08, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Althel not reacting[edit]
I just removed a bug from the page, as the "in-activity" can happen to all the ghosts.
- Althel sometimes will not attack the Fanatics after you give her the arrows.
When you give them their desired item, they will sometimes wait a few rounds before finally engaging in the fight. I don't think it's a bug and I don't think it's worth mentioning, at least not in the "bugs"-section of the page. Krusty 09:16, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I believe this is a bug. 189 rounds of waiting and she never uses the arrows.
Revelers[edit]
In the main hall, where the Vitharn Ghost Revelers feast, There is one ghost named simply Vitharn Reveler. It leaves out the ghost part. I think this is a typo in one of their names but i'm not sure.--Arch-Mage Matt 22:53, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
"It feels as though I might be able to connect with the ghost. Maybe the time isn't right yet."[edit]
Attempting to yield to the ghost in the bailey gives this message. What on earth does it mean?122.102.238.156 12:55, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- It probably means that you have not yet received the necessary quest update to communicate with the ghost. --Krusty 10:52, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, having completed the quest several times and read this article and scoured the internet, I'm failing to see under what circumstances (after receiving what quest updates) the "time is right" and you can communicate.122.102.238.156 06:37, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

- You have to have the doll in your inventory at the time to interact with the guard. Otherwise you just get the message that it is not the time. — Unsigned comment by 98.164.254.229 (talk) on 3 April 2010
- I had trouble until I actually asked someone about his beloved and found out that it was his doll, in-game. Your character has to know that the doll = his beloved, otherwise it seems rather random to stick a ghostly doll on a rampaging invader. — Unsigned comment by 121.240.152.4 (talk) at 06:56 on February 18, 2011

Desideratus gone?[edit]
moved from article:
- Desideratus Annius may spawn outside of the cell, or not at all. The only fix (aside from the console on the PC version) is to reload.
I have played this quest countless times and I have never experienced this. Can we get a bit closer to what actually happens? Have anybody else experienced this? --Krusty 09:25, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Undevoted Fanatic Ghost - Bug[edit]
After giving the 3 objects to the defending ghosts of Vitharn, the (un)devoted fanatic ghost refuses to do his job of opening the gates, simply standing next to another defender of Vitharn, neither attacking or moving. After talking to the closest defender, he made an effort to strike me but to no avail. This makes me unable to leave Vitharn - please advise — Unsigned comment by 203.219.3.47 (talk) at 03:22 on 6 June 2010
Dagger Immunity[edit]
I had 100% magical resistance when I gave the dagger to Hloval. He attacked incessantly without having any effect on my magicka and I could not do anything about it. To get out of this situation, I dropped a few items and casted a bunch of feather spells and entered the keep. When I went back out to the bailey the Ghostly Immoblity was removed. I would like to inform everyone that if you ever get into that situation, save yourself the trouble by not forgetting to take off the freaking Mundane Ring.--Lord Shyguy 00:46, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
"Heathen"[edit]
Sometimes you can hear as fighting Fanatics shout "Heathen" (I've checked it in CS and it's not just "hidden"). Anyone knows what does it mean? - ZuTheSkunk 21:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- A heathen, in the traditional sense, is one who doesn't follow an Abrahamic religion. In the broader sense, it's someone who doesn't follow your religion. In this instance, the ghosts probably believe that you're acting against their faith, so they refer to you as a heathen. – Robin Hood↝talk 21:50, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
i have tried everything![edit]
i have found the arrows and given them to the right person, i found the dagger and given that to the right person, i have also burned the doll. now it tells me that there are 2 more ghost lords to be found. i cannot find them. and the priest as i call him keeps telling me that i must return what i have stolen. i have nothing, and have gathered every thing in the crazy place and have basically dropped it at his feet. what does this guy want?
if anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated. — Unsigned comment by 75.141.160.3 (talk) at 21:15 on 13 October 2010
Hloval Dreth fail[edit]
So I gave Hloval Dreth the dagger but before he could hit me he was killed. After a second, I could move and when he respawned he cated as if he had hit me and got the magicka. Has this ever happened to anyone else?--92.2.26.80 19:25, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Happened here too, but I don't see any other way than reloading a previous save...--79.119.28.136 15:40, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I can't seem to find the count.[edit]
I have already completed the main Shivering Isles quest, and I decided to do Vitharn, since I haven't before.
So, I'm wandering around Bliss, and I hear the rumor about Vitharn. So, I go there, and I see all the ghosts. However, I still only see the first quest part, which says something like "I heard about Vitharn. I should check it out someday.". I killed some of the fanatics, and I even explored the whole area as far as I could see, and I even went into the Vitharn Sump.
And, I still haven't been approached by the count! Is it because I'm Sheogorath, or am I doing something wrong? Duchess PARADOX 03:59, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- For the Count to appear you will have to go through both the Sump and Reservoir and enter Vitharn Keep. I have no idea why the quest doesn't give you the "There are ghostly warriors fighting in this place"-update, but keep watching the fighting ghosts (from a distance) and eventually you will get the update. I just tested it as Sheogorath and received it. --Krusty 07:58, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
-
- I didn't see it mentioned on the page, but once you leave the bailey for the outside world there's a loot bag sitting in front the bailey door. Mine contained some Grand Madness arrows, a pair of Perfect Madness axes and bows, two Grand Madness shields and two Perfect Madness shields.Darkwire 23:01, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
No Magicka (Intelligence) after quest?[edit]
After I gave Hloval Dreth the dagger and he hit me with it, I had no Magicka or Intelligence. I thought this was because he hit me with it, but after the quest I still have no Magicka and no Intelligence. Is this a bug? If so, it should be included in the "Bugs" section... Lucien LachanceDB 02:19, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Edit: I just went to the Court Healer and she filled my Magicka and restored my Intelligence. Posted this update for anyone experiencing this "bug". Lucien LachanceDB 02:37, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Useful glitch/bug for this quest[edit]
I wasn't sure what section to put this in, but there is a glitch for when you come into Vitharn, right after you kill a fanatic, they will drop madness weapons and shields. You cannot search them later, as their bodies disappear after about a second, but if you hurry and select the weapon they had before it hits the ground, you can pick it up and use it like a normal weapon. — Unsigned comment by 66.169.21.37 (talk) at 17:55 on 26 November 2012
Strange Bag: Glitch ?[edit]
Right After talking to Count Cirion i receved his helm, and then i wandered around the keep noticing that everything was gone...every single piece of item was gone. so i ventured towards the "Throne room" Bailey door and noticed the "head" of a sack pointing out of the rug on the floor infront of the door. When i opened it, eveery single item was found inside it. And just out of curiosity, i dropped my Amber Axe, intending to place it on a table and later return to see if it was still there. But the moment i dropped it , the axe disapeared, only to be found inside this bag. It's like everything that was found or was dropped inside Vitharn Keep was immediatly relocated to that little bag. And when i ventured outside to the Bailey, the screen froze saying "Loading area....". What does this mean ? — Unsigned comment by Hlaalu66 (talk • contribs) at 18:17 on 9 August 2013
- You must have somehow Caused the loot bag glitch and made the Bailey corrupted or Dirty. 66.186.66.3 18:22, 9 August 2013 (GMT) Dunehelm
Can't finish the quest[edit]
I've done all three of the ghosts bit the quest is flawed somehow, it won't give me the update to see the count to finish and I don't have a nearby save, I don't keep multiple saves and the closest I have is mid way throught the game. Any suggestions? — Unsigned comment by 173.173.2.127 (talk) at 04:04 on 1 September 2014 (GMT)
