Turning a Page[edit]

You'll overhear her admonishing Vorm for zooming around her as you approach them in front of the delve.

Ysgild: "Cut it out Vorm, or I'm going to slap the pages out of you!"

Speaking with her to find out what's happening:

"Evening, friend! Or morning. Hard to tell in these Daedric realms! You've just stumbled upon the oddest family reunion this side of Fargrave. I'm Ysgild and this annoying tome is my brother, Vorm!
As you can see, we're in a bit of a conundrum."
Wait, that floating book is your brother?
"Somehow my know-it-all twin found a way to become even more pretentious. At least, I'm pretty sure it's him. Hmm. No, no, it's definitely him.
I think he wants me to enter the study to find a way to fix him. Care to join? It'll be fun!"
What would we need to do?
"Before you came along Vorm spat this note at me. "The family's favorites, V." Short and vague but can't imagine it was easy writing this given his current situation.
My best guess? We go into the library and check out some books. How terrestrial."
I'll enter the study with you and Vorm.

After agreeing to accompany both her and Vorm, Vorm will spit out a map on the floor:

Ysgild: "Mother always said I was good at making friends! Wait, where are you going, Vorm?"

<Ysgild will inspect the map.>

Ysgild: "It looks like a map? How about you take that, friend! I'll just follow Vorm!"

Before picking up the map:

"It seems legible enough, if a little wet still. Would be a shame if you don't take it after my brother's hard work!"

After picking up the map:

Ysgild: "That's that! We'll meet you inside!"

You can ask further questions from her:

"This will be fun!
Now, the study is, well, "big" doesn't do it justice. Meandering perhaps? You'll see what I mean. Finding three books in all that won't be easy. It's great to have another pair of eyes. Especially since Vorm's down to just the one."
What are you doing in Apocrypha, Ysgild?
"Oh, me? I'm just your run of the mill planar adventurer. A Gleaner of Aurbis operating out of Fargrave. Proud to say I've traveled all over creation.
From Mundus to the realms of Oblivion and all the squiggly bits in-between."
I did some work for the Gleaners before. (If you already done daily quests with the Gleaners)
"Ah! A kindred spirit! Though I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. It's not every day you run into someone strolling through Apocrypha like it's a walk in a park.
Hope my colleagues left a good impression! We can be an eccentric bunch."
What can you tell me about the Disquiet Study?
"If Vorm had lips right now he'd talk your ear off. He's an archivist here and it's a library of sorts. Well, this whole realm is a library, but this place was always a bit more eerie.
Oh, I can hear him now, "Ysgild, you're being reductive.""
Eerie how?
"Vorm once told me that this study breathes life into his books. That inked words hummed with magic and nearly leapt from the page. I thought he was being flowery with his prose, but perhaps I was wrong.
I suppose we'll have to see for ourselves."
And you think we'll be able to find your family's favorite books inside?
"Vorm's always been the sentimental type. Knowing him, he's cataloged every book he and I have ever touched. So, yes. Trust me.
His natural philosophy books, Mother's history books, my favorite adventure series. They'll be in there."
How did Vorm get turned into a floating book?
"I haven't a clue. I hadn't heard from Vorm in a while which is odd for the Nord. He does enjoy scolding and chastising his sister over inter-planar mail.
So, I thought I'd hop on over to his favorite haunt and this is how I found him."
Is it difficult staying in touch over such long distances?
"When you travel through the planes as much as we do, you figure out a few tricks! A brother who lives in Apocrypha, a mother from Fargrave, some crazy uncles on Nirn, and each of us nosier than the last.
Can't gossip if you don't keep in touch."
And are you certain this book is actually your brother?
"Well, he responds to his name, for a start! That must mean something. Of course, the family's pet bantam guar did too and that had a brick for a brain.
This thing is definitely as annoying as my brother, so let's just call it a twin's intuition?"

Once inside the delve:

Ysgild: "If the map guides you to my adventure novels, Vorm's dusty science books, and our dear mom's favorite histories, you'll know we're on the right track."
Ysgild: "I think we should split up and shout for one another if we find something!"
Ysgild: "What a mess! You really let the place go, Vorm."

Speaking her about the books you're searching for:

"Vorm told me the stacks like to rearrange themselves, so that "map" he passed us could be useless. Guess we'll find out!
You follow the map, and I'll apply my Gleaner's intuition. Between his inky mess and my nose, we'll find these books eventually!"
What do you think Vorm meant by 'family favorites'? / How are you sure Vorm wants us to collect books?
"For as long as I've known him, Vorm has kept his secrets and sentiments tucked away between the pages of a book. Wouldn't put it past him to put the juiciest tidbits of knowledge he's collected inside tomes with sentimental value."
What kinds of secrets?
"Anything and everything! I once found proof of our cousin's affair inside a Dwemer telescope manual. Vorm fancies himself a scholar, but what he's best at it interplanar gossip.
So, if there's a fix for his affliction, it'll be in a book."
What can you tell me about your family's favorite books?
"I can't tell you specifics, but I'll share what I can! Whose favorites would you like to know about?"
Tell me about your favorite, Ysgild.
"Oh, easy! The Curse of Blackscale Island is easily my favorite adventure book! There's one part, after the treasure gets stolen, when Captain Gold-Smirk comes face to face with the ghost of Laryssa Blackscale and—
You know what, I won't spoil it."
Tell me about Vorm's favorite books.
"Have you ever seen one of those heavy old tomes with text smaller than dust and the only pictures are boring shapes with numbers and labels on them? Yeah, Vorm likes those.
Find the most boring section of the library and you'll find his favorite."
Tell me about your mother's favorite books.
"Ah, that might be tougher. Mother was a historian and she loved nothing more than diving into events of the past. And recounting these stories to Vorm and me, of course.
It's been so long, but I'll know her favorite when I see it, I'm certain."

Once you venture further, both her and Vorm will split off:

Ysgild: "All right, friend! We'll meet you on the other side!"

When you reach the location of The Curse of the Blackscale Island in the bottom west section of the library, it is surrounded by green fire. Ysgild and Vorm will come running to you. She will take out a rime shard to help deal with the flames:

Ysgild: "Don't know how my brother gets anything done in here. Nearly lost my finger to some biting satire back there!"
Ysgild: "This looks looks promising. Oh! I'd recognize that spine anywhere! Now how are we supposed to get to it?"

<Ysgild takes out a rime shard for use.>

Ysgild: "I might have just the thing—here! Shouldn't be too dangerous, right? That's quite frosty out of its case!"
Ysgild: "Now, ever so gently take the rime shared and…."

Speaking to her before using the shard:

"The rime shard should keep you safe from the flames long enough to snatch the book without you getting roasted…I hope.
I'll miss having that in my pack to keep me cool during those long treks in the Deadlands!"
Why do you need me to use the rime shard?
"Well, I am carrying a satchel of magical odds and ends that may not react well to frost and fire. And Vorm doesn't have the tendril muscle mass to lift an egg, much less a book. So, that leaves us with you. A very capable and friendly adventurer."
Fair enough. So what is a rime shard?
"Ever hear of Takubar? Absolutely dreadful place. Colder than a scorned shield maiden and twice as bitter. Place is abundant with these shards. Damn useful, really. Keeps the canteen cold. Just, don't let it touch your skin."
Is it safe?
"Hey now, I wouldn't put you directly in harm's way! It may make a blizzard feel like a warm kiss, but when it comes to avoiding scorching flames and volatile magic, it can't be beat. So long as you make it quick, of course."

When you use the shard:

Ysgild: "Oh! I mean, it's supposed to do that. Now hurry! Grab the book before the effect wears off!"

Once you grab the book:

Ysgild: "You got it! Now hurry back before you and the book burn to a crisp!"

If you reach the book without using the shard:

Ysgild: "Well, now you're just trying to show off. Come on now, let's carry on!"

Speaking to her once you reach to safety:

"You're not burnt to a cinder or frozen to death! That's a qualified success in my book! I might need to take a detour through Takubar to grab a handful more of those."

When you reach the northern section of the library, Ysgild and Vorm will check up on a book called Planar Formulae of the First Age that appears to have missing pages:

Ysgild: "Ugh, those autobiographies sure were full of themselves, weren't they Vorm?"
Ysgild: "Is this it, Vorm? Just a little light reading? Wait—what happened to the pages? Have a look around, friend. See if you can find them."
Ysgild: "If you find something boring, you're probably on the right track."

Speaking to her before finding the pages:

"It looks like a handful of pages got up and ran away from that tiresome tome. Can you blame them? Probably looking to get thrown into something a bit more exciting!
Hopefully they didn't get too far. Have a look around and see if you can find any!"

Picking up the first page:

Ysgild: "Vorm seems excited about that one!"

Picking up the second page:

Ysgild: "Another page? Let's keep looking!"

Picking up the final page:

Ysgild: "I think that's it! Let's get this book back together!"

Speaking to her before repairing the book:

"You know, flying around like Vorm would be a pretty useful trick. Think of all the pressure plates I could avoid! Although, not having hands would be tricky."

After repairing the book:

Ysgild: "Hey, looks good as new! Well, all things considered. Anyway, grab that boring book and let's get going!"

When you reach the center of the library, the siblings will be looking for their mother's favorite book:

Ysgild: "This isn't what I meant when I said you needed to grow a spine, Vorm."
Ysgild: "Now this looks like someplace mother would love. Minus the beasties of course. Though I suppose we were her beasties way back when."
Ysgild: "Let's take a look around. I can't quite remember her favorite, but I'll know it if I see it!"

Picking up Fargrave: A City of Myth:

Ysgild: "A book about Fargrave? Give that a toss. Mother could probably tell us more stories about it than any one book. It was her home after all."

Picking up White-Gold: The Ayleid Perspective:

Ysgild: "That sounds pretty dry, doesn't it? Mother loved old civilizations, but the Ayleids were a tad blasé, don't you think?"

Picking up Tamrielic Twins of Myth, which is the correct book:

Ysgild: "Hey, that sounds familiar! Yeah, I remember now. Mother would read these stories to us as kids. Even swapped out the names for ours."

Speaking to her after finding her mother's book:

"Mother absolutely loved reading us snippets from this book when we were young! She would even have us read out the important speeches and quotes to really get into character.
That was a long time ago, though."

After collecting all three books:

Ysgild: "Looks like Vorm is ready to leave! Meet us outside with those books when you finish up in here, all right?"

Speaking to her before heading outside:

"That's the lot of them, right? I imagine Vorm would prefer the safe expanses of the Endless Library to perform whatever magic he needs to do rather than this frankly overcrowded study.
We'll meet you outside when you're done in here!"

Once outside, she wants to speak to you:

Ysgild: "You made it! Here, bring those books over. I think Vorm has a plan!"

Speaking to her to hear of this plan:

"Glad you made it out of there! Vorm's been so excited since we collected all three books, he's practically shedding pages!
Hand me those books and we'll see if Vorm's actually got a plan or if he conned us into doing his bookkeeping."
Here are the books. Do you know what he has planned?
'Not a clue! But Vorm seems excited enough. I think I'll just lay them down and let him work his magic, you know?
And here, even if he stays a petulant little pamphlet you still deserve a reward. Take it!"

Once you completed the quest, she will lay down the books and Vorm will cast a spell that will return back to his original form:

Ysgild: "All right, brother. I'm just going to lay these out. The rest is up to you!"

<Ysgild lays down the books and Vorm casts the spell that will make all three books disappear before returning back to human form.>

Ysgild: "Vorm! Quite the mess you got yourself into!"
Vorm: "Books don't need to breathe, but it sure feels good to breathe again."
Ysgild: "Hey, what happened to the books? I was going to read Blackscale again!"
Vorm: "Blackscale? That garbage is printed en masse. Planar Formulae was one of a kind!"
Ysgild: "Oh no, what a loss that is! It's good to have you back, brother."
Vorm: "And it's good to see you too, sister. Thank you, and thanks to our new friend as well!"

Speaking to her after the quest:

"I can't wait to hear how this dolt manage to turn himself into a book. It must have been a novel experience, that's for sure!
But no, really. Thank you for your help getting my brother back. We owe you."
What are you planning to do now?
"Good question! Well, seeing as the study is a bit, occupied, Vorm is going to need a place to stay. And as I have no place for him to stay, that means he'll need to accompany me on the proverbial road!
Is it too late to turn him back into a book?"
Do you think Vorm is going to like traveling with you?
"He may be bookish, but my brother really is made of tougher stuff than it seems. This ordeal proves it. He'll do just fine by my side until his precious study is back to normal!
Who knows, he may even grow to enjoy a bit of adventure?"
Good luck on your travels, Ysgild.

You can see both her and her brother at Cipher's Midden, trying to enjoy inky drinks on a porch:

Vorm: "Every drink still has a tinge of ink to the taste…"
Ysgild: "We're in the Endless Library. This place is two thirds ink as it is!
Ysgild: "Well if it isn't our favorite librarian! Come have a drink!"

Speaking to him to see what both her and Vorm has been up to:

"Should have figured an adventurer like you would stick around! Seems we're cut from the same cloth you and I. Apocrypha may seem all doom and gloom, but it has a way of keeping hold of you, and I'm not just talking about the tentacles!"
How have you been, Ysgild?
"I can't complain, and I'm normally quite an expert at that! It's been nice having Vorm around. It's usually so hard to drag him away from his books that it's funny it took him becoming one to get him out here!
If only mother could have seen him…"
Where is your mother exactly?
"Oh, she's off on the next big adventure you could say. And don't feel sorry! We don't. Our dear old mom did more in her life and saw more wondrous things than any ten other folks combined, and that's a fact!
And now her kids are off doing the same!"

Chronicle of Fate[edit]

If you assisted her and Vorm in the Disquiet Study, both siblings will attend your ceremony at Cipher's Midden.

Speaking to her:

"Fancy seeing you here, friend. Should have known you'd poke your nose in more than just my brother's study. You should consider becoming a Gleaner. We're always looking for inquisitive minds and curious gossips. I can even put in a good word."
What's next for you and your brother?
"We were thinking of visiting another plane of Oblivion! Maybe the Realms of Boethia, or perhaps the Myriad Realms of Revelry? I hear those can be nice!"

She will be one of the voices to support you during Scruut's speech:

Ysgild: "They even turned my failure of a brother back to normal after he transformed himself into a book!"
