Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The Plan[edit]
After you have completed your investigation of the notables in Mathiisen and learned of their corruption, Razum-dar has another task for you -- once he has confirmed you still trust him.
- "You ready for a harder task, my friend? Ready for a mission worthy of the Queen's Eyes?"
- I'm ready.
- "All right, now. You trust in Razum-dar, yes? He must ask you to trust him further. Malanie, Condalin. They are in the town barracks. You must go in, make a big noise.
They will almost certainly capture you." - They'll what? Why should I let them capture me?
- "Condalin's too observant. He knows we are here. If you go strolling in like the pompous hero, allow yourself to be taken, they'll let their guard down.
Then old Raz finds you, frees you, and we strike!"
VIP Access[edit]
Once you agree with Razum-dar's dubious-sounding plan to make yourself a blatant target, you will need to gain access to the Barracks. Walk up to the front doors and speak with Sergeant Iralundore, who is currently on guard.
- "Just keep moving, friend."
- I'm a sworn agent of the queen! A very important person. No, a hero!
- "Heh. You don't say?
All right, hero, go on in."
Canonreeve Malanie is at the end of the hall with Condalin and Ondendil.
- Canonreeve Malanie: "We'll have to handle this ourselves."
Approach her and confront her with accusations of conspiring with the Veiled Heritance. It will end just as planned.
- "We're a bit busy here, traveler. If you could just—"
- On behalf of the Queen, I'm here to arrest you for treason!
- "Treason? You'd accuse me of treason? Here? Are you mad?"
- I have proof you're part of the Veiled Heritance. You're under arrest, Malanie. Come quietly and—
- "You little idiot. Ayrenn, that traitorous cow! She's the one who should be brought up on treason charges.
She's betrayed the Altmer—her own people! The Veiled Queen will soon be crowned and you can't stop us!" - I'll report you to—
- "You'll report nothing! Odendil! Condalin! Now!"
You will be knocked out by Condalin and, as you lose consciousness, you can overhear Malanie's plans.
- Canonreeve Malanie: "We'll have to handle this ourselves."
- Canonreeve Malanie: "Condalin, take our friend here."
- Canonreeve Malanie: "Ondendil, rally the troops."
- Canonreeve Malanie: "Time to drop the Veil and show our true strength."
Jailbird[edit]
When you wake up in the cell, an amused Razum-dar will be waiting outside the door.
- "You're awake now, sleeping kitten?"
- Ow. I take it your plan worked?
- "Just as we'd hoped. You did very well for new blood."
- Are you going to make fun of me for the jail thing?
- "What? This one would never note that this is the second time he is saving you. From jail. In less than a month.
Not out loud, anyway." - Right. How'd you get down here, anyway?
- "What do you think Raz did while you searched the town? He watched, observed, calculated.
Raz has very good eyes, you see." - What now?
- "Razum-dar unlocks the door. You go find Condalin. This one finds Malanie.
Just be careful." - Where is Condalin?
- "Near Fistalle's house. Bastard.
Meet up with Raz near the forge when you are done. He'll know where Malanie is then."
After you have finished talking with you, he will unlock the door.
Shredding the Veil[edit]
Your next objective is to deal with Condalin in his home while Raz searches for the Canonreeve. Condalin's home is next door to the deceased Fistalle's. When you enter his home, Condalin will have armed himself and is ready to fight you.
- Condalin: "You cannot stop the people and their true Queen!"
Once you have defeated Condalin, leave his house to meet Razum-dar outside the forge, where he has cornered her.
- "The Canonreeve is inside, near the forge. She is trapped."
- So this is it, then?
- "Aye. Come, my friend. For Fistalle. For the Queen!"
Upon entering the forge area, it will at first not be apparent where Malanie has gone. Head to the southeast area of the forge, where a trap door can be found. The Canonreeve will be attempting to escape. After fighting your way through members of the Veiled Heritance, you will find the Canonreeve at the far end of the tunnel and you can confront her alongside Razum-dar.
- Razum-dar: "You are under arrest, Canonreeve. For treason against the Queen."
- Canonreeve Malanie: "The only queen I serve is the Veiled Queen!"
- Razum-dar: "This is fine, traitor. We could use the exercise."
After defeating Canonreeve Malanie, Razum-dar tells you that he will meet you outside.
- Razum-dar: "We are finished here. Raz can't stand the stink of the forge anymore."
Debriefing[edit]
Upon leaving the Smuggler's Tunnel, you find yourself swimming in the harbor. Razum-dar is waiting for you on the dock.
- "Razum-dar wants to say that went pretty well. Then he remembers Fistalle, and her parents."
- She'd be proud, Raz. She didn't die in vain.
- "You're right. On behalf of the Queen, we give you thanks.
One day you will be a great and mighty agent. Almost as great as Razum-dar. If that's possible."
He rewards you for your service and says he is heading for Skywatch and you should join him there for your next task.
Notes[edit]
- While the objective description when locked up states the cells are under the barracks, the barracks don't contain any sub-levels at all and the cell is on the ground floor.
- While Razum-dar states Condalin is found near Malanie's house, he is actually found inside his own house on the other side of town.
- The parts of the quest involving entering the forge and killing Malanie has text that implies that Razum-dar will accompany you. This does not happen.
- Although at first the entire town will have all containers and other lootable items marked as Stealing, when you go back to the forge and dock area before pursuing Malanie in the tunnel, the entire forge / dock area will be lootable without it being a crime.
Bugs[edit]
- The prison cell door in the barracks can be interacted from the outside before speaking with the Canonreeve. Doing so leads to a fade to black before returning to where you were already outside the jail cell, and the option cannot be used again afterward, including later when you actually would need to use it to exit the cell. ?
- The only way to proceed then is to use a wayshrine to portal out.

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
