Investigate Rilyn's cave and read his journal. As you go to leave the cave, Rilyn shows up:

Rilyn Uvani: "Get away from my things!"

He is in love with Raerana and justify murdering her family to let her escape the abuse she endured. You have a choice to lie to Raerana that bandits killed her family by presenting the ring of her mother or refusing to go along with Rilyn's plan and reveal that he murdered her family:

"What are you doing here? Who are you?"

I'm a friend of Raerana's. And I know what you've done.

"And do you know why I had to do it? Do you know what her father did to her? If you're truly Raerana's friend, you'll keep what you know to yourself. She needs me now. I'm all she has."

You expect me to just walk away?

"You could help instead. Give Raerana some closure, and steer suspicion away from me.
I have an idea, if you're open to it, if you truly care about Raerana."

I'm listening.

"I have Frirhild's ring. You could take it to Jorald and tell him you found it on some bandits. He'll believe you.
Then Raerana and I can escape from here and be free at last!"

I'll do it, for Raerana.

"Thank you! Here, here's the ring. Take it to Jorald and set us free!"

You're crazy. You murdered her family!

"Please, show mercy! Do you want Raerana to be completely alone? I can take care of her. This was all for her!
She knows me, she knows why I did this, why I had to do it!

No, you murdered three people and you're not getting away with it.

"Then I'll do it without you! Nothing can keep Raerana and I apart!"

Blame the Bandits

If you decide to blame the bandits, you'll find Rilyn with Raerana and Sergeant Jorald at three fresh graves at the farm. If you speak to him before speaking to Jorald, he'll say:

"Oh, it's you again. Did you show good Jorald here that ring you found? I'm sure he would be pleased to know you gave the bandits what they deserved."

After speaking to Jorald, the two lovers will say:

Raerana Frostmoon: "I … I think I need to lie down for a moment."

Rilyn Uvani: "Yes. Let's get you inside, dear. This has been a difficult day. But I'm here now."

After the quest Rilyn can be found inside the farmhouse:

"This is the way things were meant to be. Raerana and I, together forever. Who knows, I might even become a farmer, in time."

A hostile Rilyn Uvani

If you accuse Rilyn, he ends dialogue and returns to the farmhouse. You can watch him try to justify the murders to Raerana but she is horrified at his actions:

Raerana Frostmoon: "How could you think that? Are you mad?"

Rilyn Uvani: "Don't you see? No one stands between us now! Our life together can begin!"

Raerana Frostmoon: "You are mad! You killed everyone I love! Get away from me!"

Rilyn Uvani: "What? No, Raerana! Everything I did, it was all for you, for us!"

Following both lovers inside the farmhouse, you are then forced to kill Rilyn in order to protect Raerana.
