Calm down. What exactly happened?

"We woke up this morning and the farm was on fire. Smoke everywhere! It was the scamps! They're all over the place.
I would've left right away, but we couldn't find Mister Nurin. He hadn't been the perfect boss, but I didn't want to leave him."

So he's still missing?

"Yes. Missus Nurin and Ganise… they won't give up, but we've been looking all day.
He's gone, probably dead, and I'm not sticking around to join him. If you want to help, talk to Missus Nurin."

I'll go talk to her.

Speaking to him again:

"Still no sign of Mister Nurin? I told you—he's gone—probably burned up in the fire.
My heart goes out to the rest of the family, but I have to look out for myself. I'll have to find a new job!"

After you have rescued William Nurin from cultists, Merthyval will have his own opinion on the matter.
