Housecarl Thorulf

Housecarl Thorulf is a Nord and the bodyguard of Unnvald Ironhand, the thane of Fullhelm Fort. In secret, he leads a small Worm Cult cell at the fort.

Approaching Thunder

After speaking with Thane Unnvald, Thorulf comes from the hallway and intervenes and will insist on speaking to you on the thane's behalf:

Housecarl Thorulf:"Your suspicions have merit, my Thane."

Housecarl Thorulf:"Surely no harm could be done to Ysgramor's axe."

Housecarl Thorulf:"I beg your leave to speak to this stranger myself."

Housecarl Thorulf:"State your case, stranger."

Once he is next to the Thane, you will speak to him to tell him about what happened to Wuuthrad. He will advise you to leave the fortress as the undead will be attacking again as he has not heard of any rumors of a shard nearby:

"You're fortunate I intervened."

I've only spoken the truth.

"So you say. My Thane's suspicions are just. You come to us with tales of shattered legend. You offer no proof."

Then you've heard no rumors of a shard nearby?

"None. Now the undead may assault my Thane's keep again at any moment. This is his home and we will defend it. You have no such obligation. It would be best to leave this manor, quick as you can."

Speaking to him again before leaving the manor:

"You have been dismissed."

You may speak to him while trying to access his room to find evidence of him manipulating the thane. You will notice he has been paying close attention to Hallfrida and doesn't care about the truth of Wuuthrad shattering:

"Is there some reason you're still here?"

I told you, I'm looking for shards of Wuuthrad./ I'm still looking for shards of Wuuthrad.

"And I told you you won't find any such thing at Fullhelm. Assuming I believed that Wuuthrad has even been shattered: what would a shard be doing out here?"

The axe shattered on a mountainside. Pieces flew everywhere in the explosion.

"Well, you can rest easy. Nothing landed here, friend. And my Thane has reason to distrust strangers at this hour. It would be safer if you left. Now."

Hallfrida asked me to stay.

"Did she now? Hallfrida is a lovely girl. Her charms will someday make m—make a man very happy. But she's been raised entirely by the Thane. She's naive, and she's headstrong."

You don't like her?

"I admire her as I admire all my Thane's possessions. She's merely acquired some bad habits in her isolation. I'm sure that with firm instructions, she will prove very companionable."

The next time you see the Housecarl is after retrieving Bonebane, he can be seen making unwelcome advances to Hallfrida but stops once he sees you:

Housecarl Thorulf: "You have … grown into a beauty, my child."

Housecarl Thorulf: "But I see you have another visitor."

He will head back to the side of the thane, if you speak to him before Hallfrida:

"You're here to speak to Hallfrida, aren't you? Why do you disturb me? The girl is wild. She needs a strong hand to discipline her."

After Sergeant Sjarakki informs the news of an incoming undead assault if you speak to him before Hallfrida:

"We'll do what we must, with no help from you. Dog of the Jarls!"

If you speak to him before raising the banners, he will comment on the siege.

"We'll do what we must, with no help from you. Dog of the Jarls!"

If you decide to hunt down Thorulf, you'll find him west on the road to Trolhetta. As soon as he sees you, he'll attack:

Housecarl Thorulf: "You ruined everything!"

During the fight, he will rage about not having Hallfrida on his side as his wife:

Housecarl Thorulf: "I would have ruled forever, with her at my side!"

Housecarl Thorulf: "I waited years to have her!"
